Chapter 28 Support from the Tribe
Chapter 28 Support from the Tribe
One day and one night, seventy kilometers.
Ivan Ruiz, carrying the woman in his arms, walked through the streets, wilderness, and countryside of San Diego, returning to his tribe.
Many people saw him along the way, but few dared to disturb him.
The man had an extremely strong smell of blood on him, which had even permeated the air and reached those around him.
Ordinary people would rather stay away from them, and border madmen, criminals, or gang members would not want to suddenly provoke a thug.
Even the San Diego Police Department officers and FBI agents who had been hanging behind him watched from a distance, showing no intention of going over.
They had seen the surveillance footage and knew perfectly well just how terrifying the power was hidden within this seemingly haggard man.
They wouldn't be foolish enough to go there and risk their lives for a few thousand dollars a month.
Therefore, upon seeing the gates of the Indian reservation, which was called a tribe but was actually a casino, open, they all stopped in their tracks.
"Sir, what do we do now?" a policeman asked curiously, watching Ivan's disappearing figure.
Next to him, the detective who was still smoking stubbed out his cigarette. "Report to the chief, and while you're at it, warn those gangs here... if they don't want their casinos to become hell, they'd better behave themselves for a while!"
"Yes, sir!" the men replied.
But their car didn't leave; it was parked nearby, just like the other police officers on duty around there.
……
Indian reservations were special places that were considered a "gift" by white Americans.
The Indian Gambling Control Act and the Native American right to self-government over their reservations made this area a lawless zone in the United States.
This is why many large corporations or gangs collaborate with local Native American tribes to open casinos, thereby boosting the economy, increasing entrepreneurship, and reducing crime rates.
Of course, Ivan knew these were all excuses; in reality, how much money could their tribe earn?
Most of the money ended up in the hands of large gangs or big capitalists, and they only received a meager income.
But their tribe is slightly better off. In recent years, all the security facilities and most of the casino jobs have become optional jobs for the tribe, which has made their lives much better.
"Ivan? You're finally back!" As the door opened, the man in the security guard uniform saw the man's face and finally breathed a sigh of relief.
It's late at night now, so anyone coming to the casino at this hour needs to be careful.
But seeing his good friend arrive, he was still very happy. "I heard you went to San Diego with them. How was it? Did you buy Layla anything nice?"
"Let me tell you, having a wonderful girl like Lyra as your wife is truly a blessing from King Cammenpus..."
The door was pushed open, and then he was speechless.
Beneath a clean face lies a body almost blackened by grime, and a corpse covered in blood.
The corpse's face was intact, clean but pale, but the body was covered in holes and wounds.
Isn't that face Leila Winona?
The guards who witnessed this scene turned pale. "Who...who did this? Who dared to attack our people in San Diego territory?!"
"Come on, I'll take you to the elder!" The guard pulled him away. "The elder will make them pay a heavy price!"
But he didn't pull Ivan at all, or even shake him.
“Hall, no need!” Ivan said in a hoarse voice, “I’ve already killed them all!”
He held the woman in his arms with one hand and took a bag from his waist.
Hall took the bag and saw the teeth inside—when there was no way to take the spoils and achievements with them, teeth and ears could prove the number of people the Celestial Warriors had killed.
Dozens of closely packed teeth caused Hall's pupils to shrink!
He couldn't fathom why his honest friend would do such a thing. "You...you killed them all?"
“Okay!” Ivan nodded. “Take me to the elder. I need to tell him something!” The two walked forward, and the Indian guards behind them closed the door again. They looked at Ivan’s back with a mixture of contemplation and surprise, but no other thoughts.
Soon, the two arrived at a wooden cabin behind the casino. In this very modern reservation, the cabin retained a strong Native American cultural character!
This was the residence of Carl, the tribal elder and priest.
As a descendant of the Maya people in the north, Karl is a middle-aged man who adheres to ancient customs. Even though many people change their names to live in America, Karl does not.
He was also the true ruler of the tribe, and over a period of more than a decade, he completed the unification and management of the tribe, and seized some of the casino management rights from those gangs and companies.
It was precisely because of his strength and power that everyone in the entire tribe respected him immensely.
Even someone as composed as him seemed somewhat taken aback when he saw Ivan carrying Lyra in.
What shocked him even more was what he heard Ivan recount his own experiences.
When Hall heard these stories, he was dumbfounded. "This... the worship of the god Kokata? I... the thing I usually disrespect the least is the ritual..."
To convince them more quickly, Ivan laid down Lyra's body and then picked up a deer antler from the room—Karl's prized possession, a masterpiece he had hunted in his youth.
But the next second, he didn't care about the antler anymore, because Ivan simply rubbed the antler into powder with his hands!
This power, which was almost beyond human capabilities, caused Karl to crash for a few seconds. But those few seconds didn't seem to be enough for Ivan, so he picked up the shotgun on the wall.
Then, he raised his hunting rifle, pointed it at his own head, and fired another shot without hesitation!
"Bang!" The gunshot startled everyone, and many footsteps could be heard outside the room.
But Karl and Hall could see that Ivan was unharmed, and at his feet were broken shotgun pellets.
Seeing this, Karl no longer hesitated, "Hall, close the casino and expel everyone who isn't from our tribe!"
“Elder, this will upset the guests…” Hall said.
"So what if they're dissatisfied?" Karl turned his head, his face contorted with malice and ambition. "What good will their dissatisfaction do? Can they slaughter us again?"
Upon hearing this, Hall fell silent, nodded, and left.
Carl is right. Even if the Native Americans beat up all these white and black people, nothing would happen in this country where "correctness" is ingrained.
After all, they hold the highest legal authority on this continent, and as long as America continues to exist on this continent, they cannot be touched!
Besides...
Karl looked at Ivan. "Are you a warrior of Kokata? The priest, the god of war, destruction, and cruelty?"
“Yes!” Ivan said, “Elder, I hope to place Laila in the tribe’s territory. The gods promised me that Laila’s soul will not be placed in the land of the dead, and her body will not decay. I want to… save her!”
Looking at the woman's corpse, Karl nodded. He didn't smell any stench at all, as if the woman wasn't dead but just asleep.
“I promise you, since it is the will of God, we shall obey! I will personally place her inside and perform the sacrifice!” The tribal elder looked at the newly appointed heavenly warrior. “Then, Ivan, do you think we will receive a response if we perform the sacrifice again?”
Ivan nodded without hesitation, “Yes! I am His warrior and His priest! He will surely respond to our priesthood!”
He could sense that although Kokata didn't care much about him, he couldn't possibly be indifferent to his faith.
Ivan rubbed the bracelet in his hand, and a faint glow emanated from it, as if it were supporting them.
"That's enough!" Karl exclaimed, watching the scene unfold. He strode out the door and addressed the people at the entrance, "Notify everyone in the tribe to return! Notify everyone in the entire Apache tribe to gather here!"
"I want to... restart the rituals, I want to... worship the Mayan gods again!"
I'm asking for votes as usual. I've made it to the recommendations! Every read you make is very important to me! or2
