Conan: I'm a zaibatsu in Tokyo
Chapter 438 No Adding Fuel to the Fire
In the organization's secret sanatorium, Gin sat on the sofa in Chianti's ward, a cigarette between his fingers.
"You're here to visit a patient, is it alright to smoke in the ward?" Chianti asked.
Gin merely glanced at her indifferently, then took another puff.
Chianti snorted and turned to look out the window. Cohen, lying on the hospital bed next to her, was simply reading a book.
"Hmph, that guy Zhengyi started eliminating dissidents as soon as he took power." Gin sneered and flicked his cigarette ash. "He actually targets guys like you who are absolutely loyal to the organization."
Chianti lay on the hospital bed: "Gin, you also believe it was Shoichi who did it?"
"Who else could it be but him?" Gin narrowed his eyes.
"Zhengyi, that guy, pretends to be harmless on the surface, but he is ruthless behind the scenes."
Chianti nodded.
However, I don't entirely agree with Gin's words.
Zheng Yi, that guy, doesn't seem harmless on the surface either.
Gin stood up, walked to the window, and looked at the night outside: "Kill the people who did it. What can a piece of trash like Tequila do?"
Chianti opened her mouth, not wanting Gin to say such unlucky things.
She and Cohen were only hospitalized; they were not killed by Zheng Yi.
But such minor details are unnecessary for Gin to pay attention to.
Chianti thought of the tequila; given his current fawning attitude towards Zheng Yi, he really didn't seem like someone who could get things done.
"Gin, what should we do?" Chianti asked, her voice tinged with reluctance.
Now Zheng Yi is the boss.
Only something like agave can thrive, but Chianti simply can't.
She looked at Gin and asked, "When are you coming back?"
Gin shook his head.
It will be a few more days. With so many people reporting me this time, it must be Zheng Yi's doing.
He went to great lengths to replace himself in the organization.
"Don't worry, Jundu won't be arrogant for long," Gin said.
Chianti opened her mouth, unable to hide her worry.
He was afraid that members of the organization would defect to Zhengyi and wouldn't obey his orders when he returned.
Look at Tequila now, does he still have any respect for Gin or the Boss? He only listens to Zheng Yi and has long since stopped taking the organization seriously.
……
"That's what Gin said?"
"He said I started eliminating dissidents as soon as I took power? And he said tequila is useless?"
Vermouth nodded.
That's what he said.
"Ha, how dare he accuse me of eliminating dissidents?" Zheng Yi said.
"He killed so many people before, who knows if he killed undercover agents or eliminated dissidents?" Zheng Yi said, "He killed so many members of the organization, but I didn't kill a single one."
Even the injuries to Cohen and Chianti weren't caused by him; he has a clear conscience.
"So, what gives Gin the right to criticize me?"
“A crow landing on a pig can’t see its own blackness,” Vermouth said.
Zheng Yi stared at Vermouth and said, "You're calling me a pig?"
"I didn't."
Vermouth shook her head, raising an eyebrow as she said, "I was just using a common saying; I didn't mean to mock you."
“I think you’re trying to mock me, that’s why you used a proverb,” Zheng Yi said.
Vermouth spread her hands, looking helpless.
It's all because you have a dirty mind that you think I'm scolding you.
Zheng Yi straightened his cuffs and said calmly, "Go and explain to Gin for me that I didn't eliminate any dissidents. Chianti and Cohen's injuries were accidents. If they can't even take this kind of risk, they don't deserve to be paid by the organization."
He paused, then said with a heavy heart, "Since it's a work injury, let's give them some compensation."
Vermouth glanced at Zheng Yi.
The money is being distributed using the organization's funds, so why are you so distressed? Have you already started treating the organization as your private property?
"I understand." Vermouth's lips twitched slightly.
Zheng Yi said, "And even if there are subsequent actions to eliminate dissidents, they were learned from Gin."
……
On the outskirts of Beika Town, a black Porsche 356A sped through the night.
Inside the car, Gin paused slightly, his fingers holding a cigarette between his fingers, and glanced at Vermouth sitting in the back seat through the rearview mirror.
"What message did he send you to deliver?" Gin exhaled a smoke ring.
Vermouth leaned back gracefully in her chair, applying nail polish with great interest, a smile playing on her lips.
She didn't answer Gin's question immediately, but looked at Vodka in the driver's seat and asked softly:
"Vodka, as a codenamed member of the organization, aren't you afraid of angering Cointreau by serving as Gin's driver while he's on vacation?"
"Ahem." Vodka cleared his throat and said loudly, "I'll always be Big Brother's driver, what's there to be afraid of?"
"Oh? You've got guts."
"Hmph!" Vodka snorted coldly, trying to bolster his courage.
Vermouth looked at Gin and said slowly, "Jundu was very aggrieved. He was heartbroken for a long time after hearing your evaluation of him."
"Feeling wronged?" Gin sneered.
He crippled Chianti and Cohen as soon as he took power, so what is he complaining about?
Everyone knows that Zheng Yi is most intolerant of being wronged, and even verbal grievances must be avenged in blood.
Vermouth leaned forward slightly: "Jundu said he didn't eliminate any dissidents. Chianti and Cohen's injuries were work-related, purely accidental."
"An accident? A workplace injury?" Gin turned to look at Vermouth.
Chianti is one thing, but Cohen's leg was broken by you. Besides Shoichi, who else in Japan can command you?
“That’s how Cointreau explained it anyway.” Vermouth shrugged.
He said that if they couldn't even take this much risk, they didn't deserve the organization's salary. After all, in this organization, only the strong survive, right?
Vermouth continued to embellish the story, saying, "Moreover, Coindus emphasized that he didn't kill a single person."
Unlike some people who, under the guise of cleaning up undercover agents, actually eliminate more dissidents than undercover agents.
He said, "When a crow lands on a pig, it can't see its own black color."
"What did you say?" Gin stared intently at Vermouth.
"That's not what I said," Vermouth said softly, looking at Gin with a wronged expression.
"Oh, Gin, don't get so worked up. These are Jundo's exact words; I'm just relaying them."
He said, "You've killed so many members of the organization, how do we know if it was killing spies or eliminating dissidents?"
Gin's face was terribly grim: "That brat is provoking me."
“Provocation? No, no, no.” Vermouth shook her finger.
“Jun Du said he’s learning from you. He said that even if he later eliminates dissidents, it’s because he learned it from you.”
After all, a good teacher produces outstanding students.
She paused, then added, "By the way, Jundu also asked me to tell you that since it's a work injury, you should give Chianti and Cohen some compensation."
He said he was very kind, unlike some people who only knew how to kill to cover their tracks.
Gin took a deep breath. It seemed like some kind of person was in this car.
Vodka, who was driving, dared not breathe.
Gin knew that Vermouth's words were at least 80% exaggerated, but Shoichi's attitude was also very clear.
"Hmph, mercy? All Jundu knows is how to use the organization's money to buy people's hearts," Gin said.
Vermouth shrugged.
In fact, Zheng Yi sees the organization's money as his own, and he is using his own money to win people's hearts; he has already gone all out.
"What else did he say?" Gin asked.
“He said that although tequila is useless, at least it obeys. And you…”
Vermouth drawled out her words, a hint of provocation in her eyes as she looked at Gin, "...too disobedient."
"squeak--"
A screeching sound of brakes.
Vodka nearly crashed into the truck in front of him.
"Heh, did he say that, or did you?" Gin asked.
“Of course it’s him,” Vermouth said.
She cultivates her mind and character and treats others kindly; how could she possibly say such a thing?
Gin said in a low voice, "Tell Junto to behave himself."
Inside the office, Zheng Yi was sitting behind his desk, processing documents.
Every time Vermouth sees Zheng Yi working, she feels a sense of curiosity.
Although Zheng Yi's job was to transfer organizational assets.
Vermouth stood in front of the desk, her face bearing a mixture of surprise, helplessness, and a perfectly measured worry.
"Zhengyi, I think... you'd better be mentally prepared."
Zheng Yi stopped writing, looked up, and said, "Can you please stop acting with me? I can't be fooled by you, so why bother?"
“Boring.” Vermouth’s expression instantly vanished.
She placed her hands on the table, leaned forward, and said in a low voice, "Gin was very angry. He crushed the glass in his hand, and blood flowed down between his fingers."
Zheng Yi raised an eyebrow and automatically removed some of the descriptions of Vermouth.
Gin isn't that bad-tempered; how could he possibly get so angry that he smashed the glass and got blood all over his hands?
"He asked me to tell you..."
Vermouth paused, her eyes flickering, as if carefully choosing her words.
"He said... tell that arrogant brat not to think that just because he's in that position he can tell me what I've done."
"Is that his exact words?" Zheng Yi nodded.
Is Gin really that gentle? He won't even scold me once.
“No, that’s not the worst part.” Vermouth shook her head, speaking mysteriously, “The key point is what he whispered to me at the end. He said…”
Vermouth mimicked Gin's chilling tone, enunciating each word clearly:
“Tell Jundu to behave himself. If he wants to die, I don’t mind sending him on his way right now so he can keep those good-for-nothings company.”
Zheng Yi didn't even show the slightest sign of anger.
He had heard this threat from Gin many times before, but Gin had never carried it out.
Gin has no longer posed a threat to its own survival, so why is it being sent back to the factory this time?
"Are you exaggerating or embellishing?"
“How could that be?” Vermouth said. “I will only soften Gin’s words a little more.”
Vermouth said to Zhengyi, "You must not act impulsively! Gin is a man who doesn't know his own strength, and besides, I think his mental state is very unstable right now."
Zheng Yi nodded.
He also felt that Gin's mental state was very unstable.
He actually heard that Gin went fishing?
Is fishing something Gin used to do?
Zheng Yi was so afraid that Gin would be suspected by the boss that he became disheartened, his emotions fluctuated greatly, and he became mentally unstable.
As Vermouth spoke, she secretly observed Zheng Yi's expression and continued to embellish her story:
"He said he didn't care how much power you had in Japan; he only knew that no matter how powerful you were, you were just a bullet away."
“Vulgar, barbaric, and completely lacking in a sense of the bigger picture,” Zheng Yi said.
It's 1996 now, and Gin is such a bastard, still trying to solve problems with bullets.
This kind of old relic should have been phased out long ago, just like his antique car.
Vermouth said, "I heard they told you to behave yourself."
"He wants me to behave?" Zheng Yi stood up. "By what right does he give me these orders?"
“Zhengyi…” Vermouth called out, feigning concern.
Zheng Yi looked at her and said, "Try to control your expression. It makes me uncomfortable."
Vermouth took a 'te' bite.
Her acting skills have been proven in Hollywood, so why does it seem so fake in Zheng Yi's work?
Zheng Yi said, "Vermouth, go find Gin. I also have something to tell him."
"Go on," Vermouth said, taking out her small notebook as if to take notes.
“Tell him that if you want me to behave, that's fine too. Tell him to come to the fountain square in Beihu Park alone at eight o'clock tomorrow night.”
"You want to fight him?" Vermouth asked in surprise.
She wondered to herself, "Could it be that I exaggerated too much, making Zheng Yi unable to bear it?"
But she thought she was still being quite restrained, and fearing that Zheng Yi wouldn't believe her, she used a rather gentle 'embellishment'.
"A bloodbath?" Zheng Yi sneered. "Does he deserve it?"
How much are my assets, and how much are Gin's assets? Would I go to war with him?
"Then what are you going to do?" Vermouth asked.
"Don't worry about it, just pass on my message to Gin," Shoichi said.
Vermouth closed the notebook: "Okay, I will relay your words to him word for word."
Wow, this is going to be interesting!
However, since the meeting was held in a crowded place like a park, rather than an abandoned warehouse, it's unlikely that a gunfight was going to take place.
Vermouth turned and walked towards the door, which closed gently. Masahiro looked at the documents in his hand and frowned.
He suddenly realized he had been too soft-hearted, only transferring such a small amount of the organization's assets at a time.
Since Gin is threatening him, he doesn't need to give the organization any face anymore.
Zheng Yi simply drew a line and decided to cause a fire in one of the organization's warehouses.
After finishing the drawing, Zheng Yi called his security company.
"Strengthen my security, and also increase surveillance around Gin. Keep a close eye on him."
After hanging up the phone, Zheng Yi started yelling at Vodka.
That degenerate guy, instead of contributing to the organization, actually became Gin's driver—that's outrageous! (End of Chapter)
