Chapter 399 Red Leaves: Let's see when you change
"You...you guys?"
Hongye rubbed her sleepy eyes, her voice suddenly rising: "Zhengyi! You bastard! Who is this woman?! How dare you keep a mistress in my villa?!"
Shiho looked at Masakazu. "Didn't you say you put sleeping pills in her water? How come she woke up so quickly?"
Zheng Yi spread his hands out.
He didn't know either; maybe the sleeping pills had expired.
I originally intended to just make up a random sentence to get by with the red leaves.
But Momiji didn't give them a chance to speak, looking Miyano Shiho up and down, her tone shifting from shock to disdain:
"Shoichi Sumitomo! This is the older sister of Ai you mentioned, right?"
She looks so much like Ai, she must be Ai's older sister.
Hongye said angrily, "You said that Ai's sister took Ai away to play for a few days, but I think it was you who sent Ai away and went out to play with Ai's sister for a few days!"
And it had been hidden in my villa for a long time.
Late at night in a bedroom, Hongye had no idea what had happened between the two of them.
She had never seen such a shameless person.
Shiho Miyano's face darkened instantly. She felt that Momiji was offending her and had tainted her relationship with Masakazu.
Overwhelmed with embarrassment, Shiho Miyano couldn't help but say, "Kumyou, I am Ai Haibara."
At eighteen, Shiho Miyano asked for a hug, and despite having an affair with Masakazu Kazuya, she still felt that a hug was more acceptable.
"Huh?!" Hongye felt like she had missed something.
"What are you to Ai-chan? Older sister? Or aunt/aunt?"
"I am Ai Haibara herself." Shiho Miyano took a deep breath, trying to remain calm.
“I took some kind of drug that caused my body to revert to the shape of a child, and now it has reverted back. This is rare in biology, but not impossible.”
"Medicine?" Hongye stared wide-eyed, as if looking at two lunatics.
"You mean, you took one pill and suddenly you went from an elementary school student to a college student?"
Are you insulting my intelligence?
How could I possibly believe such a thing?
It's biologically rare, so this isn't really a question of whether it's rare or not.
Seeing that Shiho Miyano's expression was becoming increasingly anxious, Masakazu helped explain:
"Hongye, what she said is true. She really is Ai. After a few days when the effects of the medicine wear off, she will naturally turn back. Then you will believe it."
"The effects of the medicine have worn off?" Kouye was stunned for a moment, then pointed at Miyano Shiho and said, "W-what do you mean? She can turn back? Turn back into Ai?"
Can it turn into a child again?
Is this scientifically sound?
Momiji gestured to indicate Ai's height, then gestured to indicate Shiho's height.
It was so big, how did it become so small!
Did all that meat just vanish into thin air?
"Can't you put a little more thought into your excuses?" Hongye couldn't help but say.
If you make your story more convincing, I might pretend to believe it and let you get away with it.
But if I were to believe that, then you would start to doubt my intelligence.
Zheng Yi nodded and said, "When she turns back to normal next time, I'll call you to come and see, then you'll know what happened."
Shiho Miyano suddenly turned her head and glared at Shoichi, her eyes seeming to want to kill.
How can you let just anyone watch the transformation process?
How can such a private matter be seen by others?
Zheng Yi looked at her and said, "What? Are you shy?"
"Shut up." Shiho Miyano was furious, but she was too embarrassed to lash out in front of Momiji.
Seeing the two whispering in her ear as if no one else was around, completely ignoring her presence, Hongye became even more displeased.
"Hey! Are you guys treating me like I'm invisible? Who is this woman anyway?"
Zhengyi said again, "She is Ai, why won't you believe me?"
Masaru pulled Shiho Miyano in front of Momiji, stroked Ai's hair and said, "Look, this hairstyle is exactly the same as Ai's."
Then she reached out and pinched the nose, cheeks and mouth, "The eyes, nose and mouth are all the same, everything is the same. Even mother and child can't look like this."
No matter how Masakazu and Shiho explained, Momiji refused to believe them.
Momiji stood with her hands on her hips, her eyes wide, her gaze darting back and forth between Shiho Miyano's tall figure and her face, which was strikingly similar to Ai's, while she continued to mutter to herself:
"How is that possible! Taking medicine can turn a primary school student into a big sister? Zheng Yi, do you think I'm a three-year-old who grew up listening to fairy tales?"
Zheng Yi yawned and waved his hand dismissively: "Believe it or not, she is Ai-chan."
After saying that, he turned around and slipped back into his room, leaving Koyo and Shiho staring at each other.
Shiho sighed helplessly and said, "I really am Ai Haibara. When you went to the restroom to look for me, didn't you see me coming out of the restroom?"
She yawned.
Koyo looked at Shiho, still finding it hard to believe what they were saying.
Turning an adult into a child and then back into an adult is simply not something science can do.
"I'm going back to rest too, you should go to sleep early as well." Seeing that Koyo still didn't believe her, Shiho was helpless and had no way to explain to her.
Hongye is only a high school student, so it's normal that she doesn't understand the wonders of biology due to her limited knowledge.
Now that Momiji had caught her, Shiho didn't need to leave and prepared to go to her bedroom to rest, but Momiji grabbed her wrist:
"Trying to run? No way! Since you say you're Ai, then I'll watch you turn back to normal. Until then, you won't leave my sight!"
"Red Leaves!" Shiho's eyes showed a hint of weariness and helplessness. "It's already very late, and..."
"No, and besides!" Without waiting for a reply, Hongye pulled her towards her bedroom.
"You'll sleep in my room tonight, sleep with me. I'll keep an eye on you and see when you turn back."
Shiho stumbled as she was pulled along, and said helplessly, "The timing of the drug's effects is unpredictable, and I don't know when it will revert back to normal."
“Then I’ll have to keep an even closer eye on you.” Momiji said warily, staring at Shiho. “What if I’m not watching carefully and you slip away, and then Masakazu brings Ai back saying she’s already transformed? Wouldn’t I be completely fooled?”
Shiho was speechless.
Hongye is overthinking things.
Looking at Hongye's "catching the mistress" posture, she felt something was off.
Are you going to keep an eye on me and make sure I transform, or are you trying to prevent me from going to find Zheng Yi?
Shiho sensed that Momiji still didn't believe in the transformation, and that she was keeping an eye on her to prevent her from secretly going to see Masakazu.
In Hongye's bedroom, she laid out two quilts.
She sat cross-legged on the bed, her hands supporting her chin, her big eyes fixed on Shiho.
Shiho felt extremely uncomfortable under her gaze, and finally couldn't bear it any longer. She pulled the blanket over half her face, leaving only her eyes visible as she looked at Momiji:
"Hongye, why are you staring at me like that?" "Hmph!" Hongye raised her chin, her tone wary. "Of course, it's to prevent you from escaping. What exactly is your relationship with Zhengyi?"
Upon hearing this, Shiho's lips twitched slightly.
I've said it so many times, what more do you want from me?!
I told you, but you didn't believe me, so Shiho decided not to say anything.
Shiho was helpless. This bizarre thing was really too unbelievable. The effect of drug A was beyond science. If she hadn't seen it with her own eyes, it would have been hard to believe.
There was a long silence.
Shiho said to Momiji, "You're trying to stop me from going to see Masakazu, aren't you?"
Because Shiho hadn't answered Momiji's question before, Momiji ignored Shiho this time as well.
After Shiho asked, the bedroom fell silent, allowing her to experience the same awkwardness that Momiji had just felt.
But Shiho continued, "You think I have an ambiguous relationship with Shoichi?"
After she finished speaking, her face turned red.
Fortunately, half of her face was covered by a blanket, so Hongye didn't see the change in her face.
"Humph!"
Koyo snorted twice at Shiho, as if mocking her.
Shiho sat up, looked at Kouyou, and said, "Is it because you don't want me to go to Masakazu that you're keeping an eye on me?"
"I'm not that bored. What good would it do me to stop you from going to see Masahiro?" Koyo said, looking at Shiho.
"I just want to expose your clumsy lies. You really think I'm a fool for trying to cheat me with this anti-aging drug."
Hongye squinted, and what she said seemed to match what she was thinking.
“Alright,” Shiho lay back down, closed her eyes, and sighed, “Then you just watch and see, Ms. Koyo. I hope you’ll still be this energetic when you wake up tomorrow morning.”
Seeing that Shiho had lain down, Hongye immediately crawled into bed as well, her big eyes still fixed on the edge of Shiho's blanket.
"Don't worry, I'll keep an eye on you and see when you change," Hongye muttered softly in the darkness.
Shiho opened her eyes and shook her head helplessly.
"Don't worry, I definitely won't run away."
……
As dawn broke, the restaurant was filled with the aroma of breakfast.
Masakazu walked into the restaurant yawning, his gaze sweeping back and forth between Koyo and Shiho, his brows furrowing involuntarily.
Momiji had two light dark circles under her eyes, and her eyes were bloodshot, but she was still staring intently at Shiho.
Shiho, on the other hand, lay slumped on the table with a look of utter despair. She glanced listlessly at Shoichi before silently burying her head back down.
"You two..." Zheng Yi pulled out a chair and sat down suspiciously, "You both look terrible. What did you do last night?"
"I'm in great shape!" Koyo immediately straightened her back and continued to stare at Shiho.
Shiho rubbed her temples and shook her head weakly.
Shiho felt very uncomfortable being stared at; every time she turned around, she could see a pair of eyes staring at her, making it impossible for her to sleep.
Zheng Yi blinked, looking at the strange atmosphere between the two, not understanding what they were doing.
But it shouldn't be a big problem. The two don't seem to have had a fight, so it's okay.
After breakfast, Masakazu said, "Let's go then. Today we're going to my Sen-oku Hakuko Kan Museum. I heard they recently acquired a new batch of exhibits."
“Okay.” Hongye nodded.
Shiho didn't want to go at all. She hadn't slept well last night, and all she wanted to do today was sleep.
But Hongye had no intention of doing as she wished.
They kept saying things like, "Are you trying to sneak away?" and "I knew you were lying to me, you can't change at all," constantly nagging in her ear.
Shiho had no choice but to go along.
Momiji stayed close to Shiho like a jailer, afraid that Shiho would run away.
On the way to the Sen-oku Hakukokan Museum, the atmosphere in the car became even more eerie.
Koyo and Shiho sat in the back seat, and Koyo practically pinned Shiho to her seat with her gaze.
At first, Shiho felt uncomfortable all over, but later she simply gave up resisting, closed her eyes to rest, and automatically switched to blocking mode from Momiji's gaze.
Zheng Yi sat in the passenger seat, observing the two through the rearview mirror, and the more he looked, the more he felt something was wrong.
He couldn't help but turn around and wave his hand in front of Hongye's wide-open eyes.
"Hey, Hongye, are you alright?"
"Snapped!"
Momiji slapped Shoichi's hand away with precision, her eyes still glued to Shiho, ignoring Shoichi completely.
Zheng Yi rubbed his reddened hand, turned around dejectedly, and muttered under his breath, "How inexplicable."
Shiho didn't even open her eyes when she heard this.
Hongye muttered under her breath, "Let's see when you change."
The car soon arrived at the Sen-oku Hakuko Kan Museum.
The three of them got off the bus, and Shiho was finally able to get away from Momiji.
Zheng Yi walked to the entrance, but instead of queuing like ordinary tourists, he went directly to a small reception area at the side entrance.
There stood a middle-aged man in a dark suit and gold-rimmed glasses, who looked like the museum's manager.
"Mr. Zhengyi, you've arrived." The person in charge bowed slightly, his attitude respectful and modest.
"Hmm." Zheng Yi responded casually, his gaze sweeping over the surroundings. "How did things go today?"
"Everything has been arranged. Knowing that you were coming, the 'Masterpiece Collection' exhibition area in the Bronze Hall has just undergone a round of minor adjustments."
The tiger-shaped wine vessel and the Kui-shaped drum are now more prominently displayed. Additionally, the "Anwan Post" in the calligraphy and painting hall has been moved to a more eye-catching position for easier access.
The person in charge paused, seemingly considering his words, "Although only one page can be exhibited each time, today's piece happens to be the one with the strongest brushstrokes."
Knowing that Zheng Yi had a penchant for collecting, and also knowing that Zheng Yi was inherently cruel, the person in charge was very careful.
"Well done." Zheng Yi nodded in satisfaction.
The person in charge breathed a sigh of relief upon receiving Zheng Yi's praise; it seemed he had escaped with his life.
"By the way, Mr. Masakazu, Mr. Saburo Sumitomo called earlier and said he wanted you to stay here a little longer, as he was coming to find you," the person in charge said.
"Oh, I see." Zheng Yi nodded and muttered softly, "Hasn't he gone back to prison yet?"
"Let's go in and take a look." Zheng Yi turned his head and gestured for them to go in, a smile on his face.
Seeing that Zheng Yi's smile was genuine, Hong Ye muttered to herself that Zheng Yi really liked antiques.
Shiho, on the other hand, understood much better.
Zheng Yi didn't like those things at all, and knew absolutely nothing about antiques, but antiques were valuable, and Zheng Yi liked money. (End of Chapter)
