Conan: I'm a zaibatsu in Tokyo
Chapter 397 Heading to Kyoto
The sky over Beika City is always so clear.
Conan huddled in the corner of Professor Agasa's sofa, clutching a crumpled plane ticket tightly in his hand.
“Conan,” Professor Agasa sighed, wearing his signature round glasses and fiddling with a newly invented part.
"Don't be too fixated on it. Xiaolan might not necessarily do anything to you."
"Absolutely not!" Conan suddenly looked up. "Doctor, Ran is already suspicious of me. If Ran continues to notice me, she will definitely expose my identity."
If my identity is exposed, then…
Conan couldn't help but shiver.
However, leaving Japan is not going smoothly.
That day, full of confidence, he took his "Edogawa Conan" passport to the airport and bought a plane ticket to the United States.
He fantasized that he could start a new life once he arrived in the United States, and that he would wait a while before figuring out a better way.
"Little boy, are you going to America all by yourself?" The ticket inspector looked at him with a smile.
"Yes! I'm going to visit my...cousin!" Conan answered in a childish voice.
However, when he excitedly ran to the boarding gate, he suddenly felt a sharp pain in his stomach.
"Oh no... it's the antidote, I'm going to turn back..." Conan clutched his stomach, his face pale, and he was about to turn back into Shinichi Kudo in front of everyone.
In order to avoid revealing his identity, he had to give up boarding at the last minute, and awkwardly hid in the toilet, watching the plane take off.
He found himself transformed into Shinichi Kudo, awkwardly standing at the bathroom door in an obviously ill-fitting elementary school outfit, and eventually had to wrap himself in a blanket and take a taxi back to Dr. Agasa's house.
The second time, he learned his lesson.
"This time there shouldn't be any problems, right?" Shinichi Kudo (in his Shinichi form at this moment) walked to the ticket gate.
"Sir, please show your identification." The ticket inspector checked the passport photo.
"Here you go." Shinichi confidently handed over his identification.
"Hmm... there's no problem with the documents." The ticket inspector didn't find any issues.
However, Shinichi Kudo ran into trouble.
Just before boarding, during the security check, he suddenly felt dizzy, the drug took effect again, and he turned back into Conan.
Conan, dressed in a suit, looked comical and suspicious in front of the security gate. He was stopped by airport security personnel who mistook him for a "suspicious child wearing adult clothes." In the end, Professor Agasa had to go and bring him back.
For the third time, Conan decided to add an extra layer of insurance.
"I refuse to believe this nonsense!" Conan slammed his fist on the table, his eyes filled with stubbornness.
"I'm going to buy tickets for both identities this time!"
So he and Professor Agasa split up, one group buying tickets under Shinichi's identity and the other under Conan's identity.
"Got it! This time it's absolutely foolproof!" Conan waved two plane tickets in his hand, as if waving a victory flag.
However, when they arrived at the airport excitedly, a mechanical female voice came over the loudspeaker:
"Attention passengers, flight NH1996 to the United States has been cancelled due to weather conditions."
"what?!"
Conan was petrified on the spot.
"The weather?! But it's a bright sunny day outside!" He pointed to the blinding sunlight outside the window.
"I'm sorry," the airport staff member said apologetically, "this was a random cancellation by the system to balance flight traffic."
He has been busy for more than ten days, but he still hasn't left Japan for the United States.
“We don’t necessarily have to go to America,” Professor Agasa suggested, looking at the dejected Conan. “Ran could hide in another city in Japan. For example, we could go to Hokkaido to see the snow, or to Kyoto…”
"Okay." Conan nodded and leaned back in his chair weakly.
"It seems that fate doesn't want me to leave Japan. In that case, I won't force it."
……
Meanwhile, in a luxury villa district in Tokyo.
A black luxury sedan silently drove into Zhengyi's courtyard.
The car door opened, and a middle-aged man wearing a well-tailored dark gray kimono stepped out with a blank expression.
Instead of ringing the doorbell, he took out a key from his pocket, inserted it into the lock, and turned it gently.
With a click, the villa door opened.
"Zhengyi, you bastard!"
Upon hearing the voice, the middle-aged man frowned slightly and pushed the door open to enter.
Zheng Yi was sprawled on the leather sofa, holding a handheld game console in his hands, with one leg casually propped up on the coffee table and the other leg draped over the back of a little girl.
The little girl was looking down, holding a book in her hand, as if she was enduring some kind of heavy pressure.
Upon hearing the door open, both of them froze simultaneously.
"Oh my, what a rare guest!"
Zheng Yi slowly pulled his leg back and looked at the middle-aged man in front of him, saying:
"When did you get out of prison? Why didn't you tell me? I could have had my driver pick you up from the airport."
"I wouldn't dare ride in your car."
Saburo Sumitomo walked in with a cold face, his gaze sweeping over Shoichi before finally settling on the little girl.
"Who knows if I'll die in your car and then you'll inherit my fortune."
After Shoichi pulled his leg back, Ai quickly stood up straight and adjusted her expression.
Her face, which had turned red from anger at Zheng Yi, instantly returned to calm.
She looked at the middle-aged man and felt that his face looked familiar.
“I’m not that kind of person,” Zheng Yi said. “Rumors are not to be believed.”
At that moment, Curaçao walked over with a cup of tea and handed it to Sumitomo Saburo with a blank expression.
Saburo Sumitomo took the teacup but didn't drink from it. He simply placed it coldly on the coffee table, splashing a few drops of tea.
“What exactly do you want from those newspapers? They’re going to sue you based on the ‘anti-monopoly law and public interest’,” Saburo Sumitomo said bluntly in a low voice.
“I didn’t buy shares in those newspapers, and I don’t control them, so what kind of monopoly is this?” Zheng Yi shrugged, looking completely innocent.
Sumitomo Saburo choked for a moment.
Zhengyi did not have commercial control over those newspapers.
He did not invest any capital or acquire any shares.
He used more direct and violent means to threaten the newspaper editor-in-chief, thereby forcing them to "voluntarily" obey him.
Zheng Yi's violent methods were terrifyingly strong, and no matter how the police investigated, they could not find any trace of him.
“There’s more.” Zheng Yi nudged Ai’s back.
"Don't be so harsh in your tone, and don't look so scary. You're frightening the children."
Caught off guard, Xiao Ai stumbled and nearly bumped into the coffee table.
She turned around and glared at Zheng Yi, only to see Zheng Yi's hand already reaching out to touch her head and ruffle it.
Xiao Ai felt very uncomfortable ever since the middle-aged man came in. Just as a large hand reached out to touch her, she didn't have time to dodge.
Zheng Yi nudged Ai's back: "Go to the kitchen and get some fruit."
"okay."
She responded and turned to walk quickly towards the kitchen.
"Okay," Ai replied, turning and quickly walking towards the kitchen.
As Sumitomo Saburo watched Ai's retreating figure, his gaze softened slightly.
But when the gaze turned to Zheng Yi, the expression in his eyes became much more complex, showing contempt, shame, and a deep sense of defeat.
He had been living in prison for a long time and had been unable to discipline his son.
“Shoichi, your excuse won’t work.” Sumitomo Saburo sat back down on the sofa, his tone becoming firm.
"Everyone knows that those newspapers have been threatened by you, and it's only a matter of time before they 'voluntarily' sell their newspapers to you."
"Fine, I won't take it." Masakazu curled his lip and picked up the handheld console again. Sumitomo Saburo scoffed.
Can you resist picking up money from the ground?
Stop joking.
Zheng Yi shrugged and tapped his fingers lightly on the keys.
"I can guarantee it won't happen today."
"Never mind," Sumitomo Saburo said helplessly, looking at his son's unyielding attitude. "Let them go with the wind."
Anyway, those people can't find any evidence that Zheng Yi broke the law, and Zheng Yi is already able to handle all kinds of things.
"I didn't come here to talk to you about the newspaper."
"What is that?" Zheng Yi looked up, somewhat curious.
Saburo Sumitomo picked up his teacup and took a small sip.
"Haven't you always wanted the Sen-oku Hakukokan (Izumi House Museum) in your family?"
He knew that Zheng Yi had a passion for collecting, and that he was even capable of causing the destruction of other people's families for the sake of a single collectible. His love for collecting had reached the point of obsession.
He had long coveted the Sen-oku Hakukokan Museum within the foundation and had been demanding it.
“Don’t even think about giving it to me,” Sumitomo Saburo continued. “It’s a collection passed down through two generations of the conglomerate; it’s impossible for me to give it to you. However…”
He paused, observing Zheng Yi's reaction.
"But what?" Zheng Yi put down the handheld console.
"However, I can let you run the Sen-oku Hakukokan Museum."
"it is good!"
Zheng Yi clapped his hands happily, a smile spreading across his face.
What's the difference between handing it over to him to manage and giving it to him?
Seeing Shoichi's happy expression, Sumitomo Saburo knew that he was already thinking about how to embezzle those collections.
"Ahem." Sumitomo Saburo coughed and reminded him, "If you dare to embezzle those collections, your uncle will break your legs."
"Don't worry, I'm the most law-abiding citizen," Zheng Yi assured, patting his chest.
Sumitomo Saburo looked at Shoichi's face and shook his head helplessly.
Breaking this bastard's leg is a good thing, it'll save him from causing trouble everywhere.
"Humph."
Sumitomo Saburo snorted and stood up.
"You'd better take care of yourself."
After saying that, he turned and walked towards the door.
Zheng Yi didn't turn around, he just waved his hand.
"Take care, don't bother seeing me out. By the way, are you still in prison?"
"live."
Ai didn't take out the fruit until Sumitomo Saburo's figure disappeared outside the door.
Zheng Yi turned his head and looked towards the kitchen.
"Ai-chan."
He called out softly.
There was no response from the kitchen.
Zheng Yi stood up and walked to the kitchen door.
Ai was standing in front of the sink, holding an apple in her hand, washing it vigorously. Her movements were a little stiff, and it took her several minutes to wash the apple.
"When did you become so slow?" Zheng Yi asked, looking at her.
“This is serious.” Ai said, putting the last apple into a plate and then placing it on the coffee table outside.
Has he already left?
"Hmm." Zheng Yi nodded and said, "He got angry when he saw that you wouldn't even offer him fruit, so he just left."
Ai didn't say anything, and started eating an apple.
She hasn't recovered yet.
Zheng Yi's father suddenly arrived, which caught her off guard; she had never made a contingency plan for such a thing.
Moreover, the first thing Zheng Yi's father saw when he came in was Zheng Yi pressing her back with his leg.
How embarrassing!
Ai looked up at Masakazu and asked, "Isn't your father in prison?"
“Yes,” Zheng Yi said, “He’s gone back now.”
"Can you just come and go from prison whenever you want?" Ai asked.
“Look, you don’t understand the law at all, so you can’t be granted medical parole?” Zheng Yi said.
Ai's lips twitched.
He didn't look sick.
"Alright, forget about him." Masakazu patted Ai's head and said, "Pack your clothes, I'll take you to Kyoto."
What are you going to Kyoto for?
"The Sumitomo Group's Izumiya Hakuko Kan Museum gave it to me. I'll go and receive it. The collection there has been gathered by the Sumitomo Group over many years, and it's much more valuable than the collection in my small museum," Zheng Yi said.
The items in his museum are mostly things whose prices are inflated by stories of death.
"Hurry up, hurry up."
……
Meanwhile, Conan also decided to go to Kyoto for a visit.
The chances of running into Ran in Tokyo are too high. I'll go to Kyoto to avoid Ran and also travel around to relax.
Conan plans to invite his parents to go with him, as a family trip.
However, the Kudo couple didn't want to be with Conan at all, lest Conan disturb their time together.
So he decisively rejected Conan and chose a city opposite to Kyoto.
Conan was helpless against the couple, so he had no choice but to ask Professor Agasa to go with him.
The two booked their tickets and boarded the plane smoothly this time.
Conan didn't transform randomly, the weather didn't change, and the flight wasn't canceled.
Conan finally breathed a sigh of relief after arriving in Kyoto.
"Luckily, I didn't encounter as many difficult things as when I went to America," Conan muttered to himself.
Going to the US was so difficult, I couldn't go several times, but thankfully my trip to Beijing went very smoothly without any problems.
"Alright, Shinichi." Professor Agasa looked at a notebook.
That was a travel guide he had prepared at home before coming to Kyoto.
Professor Agasa looked at the notebook and said, "I've already planned my trip to Kyoto. I'll go to Fushimi Inari Shrine in the morning, Higashi Honganji Temple in the late morning, Nishijin area in the afternoon, and Pontocho in the evening."
Oh, and don't miss the Weeping Plum and Camellia Festival on March 22nd. And when you come to Kyoto, you can't miss the Sen-oku Hakuko Kan Museum, and…”
Hearing Professor Agasa list so many places to go, Conan felt a headache coming on.
"Doctor, if we have to go to so many places, we'll be exhausted," Conan said.
The PhD student is planning to visit four places in one day; that's going to be exhausting.
"Oh dear," said Professor Agasa, "We've come all this way to Kyoto, so of course we should visit as many places as possible."
Professor Agasa continued his incessant chatter in Conan's ear, while Conan covered his ears and headed to the hotel he had booked. (End of Chapter)
