Chapter 292 Begging for a Kingdom
"If I do not see the king for three days, my heart will be filled with anxiety."

"He did not enter the government office for a month and his whereabouts became unknown."

“My teacher once said that a worthy man should uphold the great principles, but how can a beggar old scholar, who is as anxious and dejected as a stray dog, talk about the great principles? And how can he face the sages with an open and honest heart?” Chen Mo said with a smile.

Who is your teacher?

Wuqiu Shouwang, cold and arrogant, turned his head away disdainfully.

Being in a dangerous situation without feeling any unease or fear suggests that one has already made preparations in their mind.

However, he could not tolerate his mentor being indirectly criticized and called a "beggar old scholar". You should know that since his mentor entered officialdom, he has always been a defender of morality and has never been ridiculed by others.

This is even more undignified than Confucius's self-deprecating description of himself as "a lost dog in a panic".

"My master is Gongsun Hong!" Chen Mo answered frankly.

A person's name, the shadow of a tree.

Wuqiu Shouwang's face suddenly turned ashen.

Even as an enemy, one must show the old prime minister full respect and refrain from making any comments.

Dong Zhongshu looked over, neither angry nor upset, and calmly asked, "What's your name?"

Chen Mo abruptly stopped smiling and said seriously, "Reporting to Master, this junior is Chen Mo."

"A descendant of the Marquis of Quni?"

Dong Zhongshu's gaze swept over the burly, man-like guards, and he immediately realized that this was the secret service that replaced the Embroidered Uniform Guard. Their imposing presence, even surpassing that of the Embroidered Uniform Guard, made him sigh, "No wonder."

Under heaven, only the Chen family of Qu Ni Hou could turn the world upside down without anyone noticing. It seems that His Majesty has failed in Chang'an and the restoration wave has been quelled.

"Gongsun Hong has indeed taken on a good disciple."

Dong Zhongshu nodded. Although he had reservations about the old prime minister's indiscriminate teaching method, he had nothing to say. "You call me your teacher, so I should give you something as a gift as a token of our meeting. However, I have nothing of my own, and everything I have does not belong to me. I can only ask for your understanding."

Now that things have come to this, there's no point in hiding anything.

Strictly speaking, he and Gongsun Hong were fellow students, both studying under Hu Wusheng, a master of the Gongyang Commentary on the Spring and Autumn Annals.

The Gongyang School originated from Gongyang Gao, a man from Qi during the Warring States period. Its lineage from the early Warring States period to the Han Dynasty is as follows: Zixia → Gongyang Gao → Gongyang Ping → Gongyang Di → Gongyang Gan → Gongyang Shou → Hu Wusheng and Zidu.

After Hu Wusheng came Gongsun Hong and Dong Zhongshu.

The Gongyang School's study of the Spring and Autumn Annals initially relied solely on oral tradition. It wasn't until the reign of Emperor Jing of Han that Hu Wusheng and his teacher Gongyang Shou used clerical script to "write it on bamboo and silk," thus completing the Gongyang Commentary.

However, Gongsun Hong's learning was not as good as his, and even though Gongsun Hong was the elder, the teacher still passed on his knowledge to him.

He looked down on Gongsun Hong for his pedantic learning and pandering to the world, and Gongsun Hong also looked down on his self-righteousness. Although they were fellow disciples in the same court, they were more enemies than friends. Few people in both the central and foreign courts knew about this past.

Now that Chen Mo knew, and being a junior who addressed him as a teacher, even though he had been scolded as an old scholar from Qi State, as an elder, he couldn't possibly hold a grudge against a junior.

"You're too kind, Commander."

Chen Mo replied solemnly, "Besides, I already received the gift from my teacher."

Dong Zhongshu was taken aback, but then he realized what was happening and asked nervously, "Is it Yin Zhong?"

"Yes, the incident at the Emperor Emeritus's Mausoleum was orchestrated by Senior Brother Yin. In accordance with the Emperor's decree, Yi Shui has been pursued and executed, and his entire clan has been exterminated."

Chen Mo answered truthfully, "Furthermore, when Senior Brother Yin was captured, Senior Brother Ying was also present. When he was captured as an accomplice, a forged imperial blood pact was found on his carriage. He has also been beheaded, and his entire clan has been implicated." The Lord keeps his word. The earth-moving ceremony on this auspicious land will involve the entire Zhu clan. Not a single person will be missing.

Yin Zhongzhu clan.

Whether it was the imperial blood oath or any other imperial edict, the Embroidered Uniform Guard, through the Minister of Works, investigated the palace and found no copy. According to the laws of the Han Dynasty, this was considered a forged edict.

He was treated the same as Dou Ying, but Duke Ying was beheaded and his entire clan exterminated.

Dong Zhongshu vomited blood.

The book "Tianxia" passed down by Gongyang Zhuan has obviously fallen into the hands of the Embroidered Uniform Guard and Chen Mo.

After many twists and turns, the lineage of Gongsun Hong still managed to inherit the legacy of Gongyang.

Of his four disciples, Chu Da died in Beiban, Yin Zhong and Ying Gong died in Yishui, and only Lü Bushu, who was running around in Chang'an, survived. Fate is cruel!

Good luck fooling people!
Wuqiu Shouwang helped his unsteady master up. He only knew that his teacher was grieving over the death of his disciple, and was unaware of the Gongyang School of thought. Looking at Chen Mo, he said angrily, "Is that enough?"

"I don't understand what you're saying, senior brother."

Chen Mo said in a serious tone, "Master, my master has a few words he asked me to tell you."

"Say it!"

"Those who aspire to great power and dominance should be loyal to their country and devise strategies based on the country's circumstances, rather than judging the world based on their own personal beliefs."

"If a country needs red, it will scheme for white; if it needs white, it will scheme for red; if it needs fat, it will scheme for lean; if it needs lean, it will scheme for fat. How is this any different from the treacherous officials who bring about the downfall of a country?"

"A true national hero is one who, in response to the times, acts with unconventional and loyal loyalty to the country!"

"Even as a concubine, one should still be loyal to one's husband. But someone like my teacher, who is learned in all things, speaks of everything under the sun, yet is oblivious to the state of the nation, stubbornly peddling his own selfish opinions. When no one buys them, he curses the whole world, like a prostitute throwing a tantrum. How utterly ridiculous..."

When Dong Zhongshu heard the words "prostitute and virgin," he could no longer hold back, and as he looked up, blood stained the sky.

Then, she fainted.

King Wuqiu Shou trembled violently, unable to speak.

Legend has it that there was a woman in the state of Lu who had nothing but her own flesh and blood. She would try to sell herself to one man, but he wouldn't take it; she would try to sell herself to another, but he wouldn't take it either. She was sold back and forth until she grew old and her beauty faded, but she remained a virgin and had never experienced the pleasures of life. So she leaned against the door, feeling resentful. Whenever she saw a beautiful young woman passing by, she would hurl insults at her to vent her pent-up resentment. This is known as the resentment and poison of a prostitute and a virgin.

A scholar can be killed, but not humiliated. Even if Prime Minister Gongsun had a great hatred for his mentor, it would be too insidious and cruel to have a young man use this article to ridicule and scold him.

Upon seeing Dong Zhongshu arrive, Chen Mo wiped the blood from his face and said considerately, "Commander, Langchi Palace is the emperor's temporary palace; you can't allow people to sleep there."

"Please, teachers and senior brothers, move over."

The Imperial Guards immediately stepped forward, but instead of touching Dong Zhongshu and Wuqiu Shouwang, they formed a path, leading the master and disciple directly to the prison.

King Wuqiu Shou sighed deeply, supported his mentor on his shoulder, and walked forward calmly.

Be willing to admit defeat.

Chen Mo watched his retreating figure. This senior brother, who always stayed by his teacher's side, seemed to have a conscience, but there weren't many like him.

When the commander was about to kill someone, the senior brother handed him the knife while shedding tears, truly understanding the Confucian principle of "a gentleman keeps away from the kitchen."

He shook his head, looked at the rising sun, his face regaining its grim expression, and said, "Go and invite Lady Li, the King of Changyi, Lady Mei, Lady Bai... to move their carriages!"
