Chapter 118: Fierce Battle
Chapter 118 Fierce Battle (Part 3)
Lu Lin is still unsure what exactly happened just now; that feeling came and went quickly.
But it seems that I have awakened some strange new ability, which is even more mysterious than the eagle's perspective.
Could it be that my ultimate evolutionary path is to become a giant golden guy sitting on a golden toilet?!
On the radio, Major Diego reported: "We see Zion's armored division breaking through the valley pass, a fully mechanized force! We've been on radio silence until now, but we can hear their engines from several mountains away. Damn it, they're getting onto the highway now!"
Lu Lin fell silent. Their defenses on the west side were as fragile as paper. After all, they had to defend such a large defensive line. He had broken the mechanized infantry division into battalion-level units, responsible for "firefighting" and filling gaps. In case of emergency troop redeployment, they could only use the guerrillas in the city. Uh, they should be called the "Watani" battalion now.
Watani means "liberation" in Arabic.
Guerrillas may be adept at street fighting, but when it comes to defending positions outside the city, they are basically a disorganized mess.
Now all we can do is pray that Fahd can hurry up and call back the mixed divisions that are intercepting outside, otherwise they will be driven into the city.
We had to buy time, so Lu Lin gritted his teeth and gave the order: "I command you to hold off the enemy's armored forces at all costs. Even if there's only one tank left, you must keep the enemy outside the city of Canam!"
There was a long silence on the other end of the radio: "Received."
Lu Lin hung up the radio, and Ibrahim said from the side, "You did the right thing. Don't feel guilty about it."
"Don't worry, I'm not that fragile."
Lu Lin waved his hand, then raised his voice: "Go ask when the supplies will arrive. Damn it, even my uncles can go on vacation faster than them!"
He abruptly stood up, paced back and forth in the command room, and rattled off a series of orders:
"Have the heavy artillery brigade provide two hours of saturation fire coverage, and then gradually begin to move westward. This is the time I'm buying for Bandar. If he doesn't make it back in time, he can expect to be collecting his corpse!"
"Notify the residents of the city to evacuate."
"Where's my coffee? Where's my coffee?!"
Looking at the command post that was bustling with activity again, Ibrahim realized that the major general did not need comforting, so he picked up the phone and began to urge airstrikes and supply support.
Sigrún has taught at the Iceland University of the Arts as a part-time lecturer since and was Dean of the Department of Fine Art from -. In – she held a research position at Reykjavík Art Museum focusing on the role of women in Icelandic art. She studied fine art at the Icelandic College of Arts and Crafts and at Pratt Institute, New York, and holds BA and MA degrees in art history and philosophy from the University of Iceland. Sigrún lives and works in Iceland.
"The 210th Division is approaching Canam from the west!"
Major General Cohen was thrilled upon receiving the news. He clenched his fist and exclaimed, "This way, we can attack Shuangzhi from the north and west, and smash their command post right on top of them with howitzers!"
Lieutenant General Diar breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing this; it seemed he had made the right bet.
But he was clearly celebrating too soon, for just then a soldier rushed over to report:
"This is bad! The enemy's armored forces haven't returned to their positions; instead, they're charging towards the air defense brigade and artillery division!"
"???"
"What?!" Major General Cohen broke out in a cold sweat instantly. "They're even abandoning their hometown?"
Lieutenant General Diyar's face turned ashen: "The air defense brigade is only a few kilometers away from us!"
"The most urgent task now is to evacuate immediately!"
Major General Cohen quickly stood up and issued the order: "The guard battalion will cover the retreat of the command post. The remaining troops will break into smaller units and try to hold off the enemy's armored forces!"
Artillery divisions and air defense units were being brought close to the armored formations; there was no way they could survive.
It's only a few kilometers away, and they'll be within the effective firing range of the M60A1 tank's main gun in just two or three minutes. Now all we can do is pray that the 210th Division can act quickly.
The soldier stammered, "But, sir, our artillery division only uses towed artillery; it can't outrun tanks at all!"
The Kurds' side consists entirely of equipment and some decommissioned weapons captured from the Arab army by Zion, and even some old artifacts from the Mahabad uprising, so their mobility requirements cannot be too high.
“We have no choice but to abandon the artillery division.” Cohen turned to Diar. “Survival is the priority now.”
Lieutenant General Diar glared and bristled: "This is completely different from what you said before! You promised to beat them to a pulp!!"
"Then you can try firing your guns horizontally and having an armored group charge in a firefight!"
Major General Cohen spread his hands: "The battlefield is always changing in an instant. You can't expect the enemy commander to follow my lead. And as you can see, our tactics have worked, and victory is just around the corner!"
Lieutenant General Diar gritted his teeth: "Withdraw! Have the artillery division blow up all their weapons, don't leave the enemy with a single bullet!"
Major General Cohen breathed a sigh of relief; at least he wasn't completely stupid. ————
Enqidu finally flew over the western part of Ganam, and about two minutes later, Lu Lin finally got the perspective of the Third Armored Battalion.
The Third Battalion acted like a valve on a soy sauce bottle, "limiting" the armored onslaught in Zion and preventing Garnam from being directly confronted by an armored assault.
However, with only one battalion of soldiers, Lu Lin wasn't sure how long their "valve" could hold out.
He pondered for a moment, then called Ahmed over: "The enemy to the west is already approaching us, and we cannot abandon the northern barrier. You must now lead your men to block the gap to the west. I will call the remaining mechanized infantry to support you."
Ahmed laughed: "This is what we should do, Major General. The lads can't wait."
At this moment, a burly Arab man with two silver stars on his shoulders walked in and saluted Lu Lin: "Major Tariq, reporting! The 1st Mechanized 'Guards' Infantry Battalion is assembled!"
The 1st Mechanized Infantry Battalion was the first unit Lu Lin formed in Nukoshir, and was awarded the title of "Guards" after the war for its outstanding bravery.
I learned this from the Russians.
Lu Lin looked at Tarik and asked, "How many tanks do you have right now?"
"Report! All the chiefs captured from Zion are with us."
Major Taric replied, "There were originally nineteen, but nine of them are unusable due to a lack of spare parts and can only be used as fixed gun emplacements."
Lu Lin had a sudden inspiration and came up with a good idea.
Why not give Zion's armored forces a "realistic" fake?
Disguise captured chieftains as Zion's armored forces, then brutally attack their rear ends.
Lu Lin's heart raced. He had the Eagle's Perspective, so it didn't matter if everyone was a chieftain. He had a built-in marking function, and his global vision gave them a significant advantage in urban warfare.
The 120mm rifled gun is equipped with HEAT (Heat-Assisted Fire) for direct wall penetration and single-shot firing.
How can I type in a box?!
He might be worth an entire tank battalion by himself!
"What do you want to do?"
Ibrahim's voice suddenly rang out from behind him.
Lu Lin: "!?!"
Lu Lin: "I haven't said anything yet!"
Ibrahim looked at him intently: "You want to go to the front lines and drive a small tank?"
Holy crap, you have mind-reading superpowers too?!
"Uh..." Lu Lin was speechless. He did have this idea!
Arabs are somewhat superstitious about the mystical, especially after witnessing a miracle firsthand. Ibrahim admitted to himself that he had wavered for a moment.
What if?
Lu Lin opened his mouth, but finally sighed helplessly.
"Forget it, I really shouldn't have gone in person." He rubbed his temples. "The command center needs me more."
Ibrahim's brow relaxed: "It seems you have a clear understanding of your own position."
"Enough with the nonsense." Lu Lin glared at him, then turned to Major Tarik, his eyes sharpening. "Tarik, I want you to follow my instructions strictly, without making a single mistake."
Tariq straightened his back: "Yes, sir!"
Lu Lin strode to the city defense map and pointed to several streets with his baton:
"Your mission is to disguise yourselves as Zion's armored forces and infiltrate their attack formation. I will guide you in real time via radio."
Tariq: "Like the tactics Zion used in the Battle of Abu Aguilar during the Six-Day War?"
"Correct."
Lu Lin nodded: "We call this 'fighting fire with fire'!"
I went out for lunch, so this is a little late. I'll post the longer chapter tonight.
