Chapter 145: Times have changed

Chapter 145: Times have changed
With a shout of "Come in".

The door was pushed open, and a young man who looked like a secretary strode in, his face serious.

"Factory manager, we just received news that more than two hundred railcars of Chinese supplies have arrived at the Yaroslavl railway station!"

"Two hundred truckloads of supplies?" Kadanikov's fingers tightened around his pen, and he looked at him sharply. "What's going on? Explain yourself."

"Yes." The secretary spoke quickly: "The supplies are from Far East Trade. It's a very large-scale operation. They are currently carrying out a large-scale transfer on site, unloading some clothing and canned goods, and then loading Far East Foods kvass onto them. Our people have inquired and found out that these things are all destined for Kuibyshev."

More than two hundred railcars? On-site transfer? To Kuibyshev?

Kadannikov was startled.

What kind of business deal was struck with Kuibyshev? How come he hasn't received any news about it?

What's there in Kuibyshev?

Various heavy industrial products, but the most dazzling one is undoubtedly the airplane.

Are these supplies meant to be exchanged for an airplane?

The thought of this possibility sent a jolt through Kadanikov, even though he was used to all sorts of things.

He immediately made several phone calls.

These are the railway station management department, the industry bureau, the trade department, and the civil aviation bureau.

The information that followed was exactly the same.

[Canned food for an airplane!]

[Far East Trade Group exchanged 800 railcars of various daily necessities for seven Tu-154 passenger planes from the Kuibyshev Aircraft Plant!]

The first batch of 200 railcars of supplies has arrived at the station, and subsequent supplies will arrive in batches over the next three months!

“Eight hundred railcars…seven Tu-154s…” Kadanikov slowly put down the phone, muttering to himself.

Only his slightly heavy breathing could be heard in the office.

Even though he was used to seeing all kinds of storms, he was still shaken by this news!

This Chinese man... his scale and decisiveness far exceeded his expectations!

Such an earth-shattering transaction was completed without a word!
He immediately realized what it would mean for that heavy industrial city once all 800 wagons of supplies arrived in Kuibyshev!
That would be a massive amount of supplies enough to meet the needs of hundreds of thousands of workers' families for several months!

It is a "hard currency" that stabilizes morale and maintains production!
Countless people will reap huge benefits from this, and the entire Kuibyshev industrial cluster may be revitalized by this positive trend!
Thinking about this, Kadanikov suddenly became eager to act.

A huge pie of profit is right in front of us!
The Volga plant is a must-see!

"Grev!" Kadanikov's eyes flashed. "Change the arrangements immediately!"

"Today's meeting with Mr. Qin will be held at the finished goods warehouse in the production workshop of our Volga Automobile Plant, and the time... is set for 7 p.m.!"

"Finished goods warehouse?" Gleev was taken aback.

The finished goods warehouse is where newly manufactured cars are parked, awaiting quality inspection and testing. It is huge and spacious, exuding a sense of industrial power.

Is the factory manager trying to... flex the Volga plant's muscles to that Chinese businessman?
"Yes, Factory Manager, I'll arrange it right away!"

Gleev didn't dare ask any more questions, immediately wrote it down, and turned to leave quickly.

at the same time.

Berezovsky Villa, on the western outskirts of Moscow.

Inside the study, Berezovsky stood with his back to the door in front of the huge French windows, outside which stretched a vast expanse of white snow.

His back view appeared somewhat anxious, and his fingers unconsciously tapped on the cold glass.

The gang's bombing, Kaddankov's choice, and... that Chinese man.

All of this made him restless.

"Uncle!" Roman's voice was urgent. He didn't even knock before pushing the door open and entering.

Berezovsky turned around abruptly, his brow furrowed: "What's the matter that you're in such a panic?"

"Something terrible has happened at the Yaroslavl train station!"

Roman, panting heavily, said anxiously, "Far East Trade, Qin Yuan and his team just received more than two hundred train cars of Chinese goods, and they are currently carrying out a large-scale transfer at the train station!"

"The scene is huge. I heard... I heard they're all going to Kuibyshev!"

Upon hearing the name Kuibyshev, Berezovsky instantly deduced the reason behind the massive transaction.

It's an airplane, definitely an airplane.

Soviet aircraft were not sold in large numbers abroad; they were mainly imported by some neighboring countries that were part of the Soviet bloc.

There were transactions involving the sale of civilian aircraft during the period of Sino-Soviet friendship.

With the normalization of diplomatic relations between China and the Soviet Union, does this mean that the trade in civilian passenger planes has been restarted?
But what truly shocked him was not the resumption of this trade, but rather that the participants were not official entities like the Civil Aviation Administration of China.

The person in charge of negotiating and transferring the supplies turned out to be a Chinese businessman.

"Just how powerful is Qin Yuan? How did he manage to do it?"

Berezovsky had never felt such a strong sense of urgency.

The news that Kadanikov had given Qin Yuan priority access to the meeting filled him with a sense of unease.

Far East Trade and Kuibyshev had done "aircraft trade," so what is Qin Yuan's purpose in meeting Kadanikov now?
Is it... the automobile trade?!

Whether Qin Yuan purchases large quantities of cars from the Volga plant for sale in the Soviet Union, or imports Soviet cars into China through the Volga plant, it will be a super business involving hundreds of millions of rubles!

Once they reach an agreement, what room will there be for Rogwarts to intervene?!

"No, we must see Kadanikov immediately."

"Or, we must meet with the Chinese man before Kadanikov meets this Chinese man."

Berezovsky's expression shifted repeatedly.

He had previously thought he could get the upper hand, but now... he has to reassess everything!
We must see Kadanikov as soon as possible.

We must... find our place before this Chinese man completely stirs up trouble in Moscow!

"Come on, Roman." Berezovsky grabbed his coat and pulled it over himself before heading outside.

The cage that bound him seemed insignificant in the face of the looming threat.

"Uncle, where are we going?" Roman was a little confused by Berezovsky's series of actions and quickly asked.

"Didn't you say before that my good student was trying to arrange a meeting with me on behalf of his boss?"

"Let's go find my good student."

Berezovsky suddenly stopped and turned to look at Roman: "By the way, what's my student's name?"

Roman instinctively said, "Ivan Petrovich."

"Let's go find this Ivan."

Berezovsky searched his mind to see if he had ever taught a student with that name.

But in the Soviet Union, there were hundreds of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of people named Ivan.

He had no idea which Ivan this was.

However, Roman had dealt with this man before, since Ivan was now the manager of Far East Foods, in charge of production at the Ochakov Beverage Plant.

You're sure to find him if you go to Ochakov.

However, he did call Ivan beforehand to inform him that Berezovsky was coming to see him.

When the two arrived at the Ochakov beverage factory, Ivan was already waiting at the entrance.

“Ivan?” Berezovsky got out of the car, his gaze falling on Ivan, a formulaic smile on his face: “Long time no see. I heard you’re doing well in Far Eastern trade now? Not bad, not bad.”

His tone carried a superior's scrutiny and a deliberate attempt to be friendly.

“Professor Berezovsky,” Ivan bowed slightly, his tone respectful yet tinged with distance, “what brings you here in person?”

He knew perfectly well why the other party had come; Roman's phone call had explained everything.

“Hehe,” Berezovsky chuckled dryly, concealing his eagerness and slight embarrassment, “I heard that your boss, Mr. Qin, has been wanting to meet me? I happen to have some free time today and would like to have a chat with him.”

Ivan understood that this once high and mighty teacher was now taking the initiative to visit him only because of the enormous shock and pressure brought by President Qin's two hundred train cars of supplies at the train station.

He calmly replied, "President Qin is currently at the Yaroslavl train station handling the transfer of supplies. If you would like to see him, I can take you there."

“Okay, then I’ll trouble you!” Berezovsky replied immediately without the slightest hesitation.

He opened the car door and gestured for Ivan to get in.

Ivan nodded without saying anything more and got into the back seat of the Mercedes.

The car started and sped off towards the Yaroslavl train station.

The atmosphere inside the car was somewhat silent.

Berezovsky looked out the window at the rapidly receding snowscape, his heart filled with mixed emotions.

His former students are now his guides to an even more powerful businessman.

The Chinese man he had previously looked down upon had now become a key figure he had to win over.

Times change, and fate plays cruel tricks; nothing could be more true than this.
