Chapter 88 A Rainy Night
Chapter 88 A Rainy Night
Goya Bathhouse Lobby
As the group descended the stairs, some sharp-eyed customers recognized them, especially one of them who was carrying a bloody human head. They were none other than Baron Oliver, the resident nobleman of the town.
Seeing this group of fierce-looking people, the people squatting on the ground instantly huddled together like frightened quails, as if this could bring them some sense of security.
Kubasi walked downstairs and looked around at the crowd. His expression didn't change, but a wave of bitterness rose in his heart. Although he had killed this stupid pig, he couldn't feel happy at all. Looking at the guy's final appearance, it seemed like he was begging for death.
Kubasi couldn't figure out who it was or what was going on. He patted his head and looked at the soldiers following him. There were still more than a thousand soldiers with him. He couldn't hesitate or doubt.
"Everyone, clean up the scene and prepare to evacuate!"
With Kubasa's order given, the soldiers sprang into action, quickly collecting and organizing the supplies at the Goya Baths.
Watching the masked men carry their belongings away, Lori, crouching in the corner, whispered to Haven:
“Mr. Will, it looks like they’re leaving. They seem to be a group of law-abiding people.”
Haven mustered his courage and looked out the window, only to find that the group had indeed left, which made Haven a little curious about them.
The others in the hall also noticed that the group had left. After confirming that there was no danger, they hurriedly ran towards the door, afraid that if they were a step too slow, they would be blocked again.
Watching the crowd gradually leave, Haven turned around and patted Lori on the shoulder:
"Let's go, let's go back. Damn it, we finally got to have a relaxing trip, and we have to run into all this crap."
After the two slipped out, they found the streets deserted. The cold moonlight made the streets appear unusually empty, and the occasional corpses reminded them that the town was under attack.
After running anxiously for about ten minutes, the two finally returned to the Deer Antler Inn. The door was tightly shut and the windows were also closed. After looking around, they realized they couldn't get in, so they reached out and knocked on the wooden door.
A few breaths later, a voice came from behind the wooden door.
"Who?"
"I'm a guest staying here, please open the door for me."
Upon hearing Haven's voice, there was a moment of silence inside. After a short while, the small window in the wooden door opened, revealing half a face.
"Oh dear. It's the Master back! Open the door quickly."
With a series of clicks as the locks clicked shut, the wooden door creaked open, and Haven and Lori hurried inside. Before them stood the fully armed innkeeper, Khufu, and his crew. Seeing the soup pot the innkeeper had placed on his head, Haven's lips twitched slightly.
"Boss, your outfit is pretty good, it looks quite intimidating."
Hearing Haven's teasing, the innkeeper awkwardly took the soup pot off his head and handed it to the waiter who was holding a wooden stick.
"Hehe, Master, please excuse my rudeness. Suddenly a group of masked men in armor appeared and drove all the guests eating outside inside. Before long, a fire broke out not far away."
"So, when you came back from outside, did you know what happened?"
Haven thought about what had just happened, organized his thoughts, and said:
"That group should be the same ones who rebelled in Windhelm a while ago. They just killed the town's baron at Goya Baths. What was that baron's name again?"
Lori, standing to the side, replied in a very sycophantic manner:
“Oliver, Baron Oliver.”
Haven gave Lori a nod of approval.
"Yes, that's the guy. His head was chopped off, tsk tsk."
However, they don't seem to have a habit of massacres. We were at the Goya Baths when those people cleaned up the supplies and left. You can rest assured, they probably won't come here.”
The innkeeper's expression became very strange after hearing Haven's words; he was a little happy, a little fearful, and a little relieved. However, Haven was not in the mood to find out what the innkeeper was thinking.
He yawned and went upstairs. Little Lori glanced at the dazed hotel owner and obediently followed Haven upstairs.
On the other side, the Heilgen administration building,
Kubasi and his men dealt with the remaining guards and, by the firelight, looked at the five-story building.
"Hang his head up."
After saying that, he went into the building. Several female clerks who hadn't managed to escape were trembling and hiding under the table. Kubasi glanced at them and walked over.
Where is Oliver's office?
The female clerks screamed in alarm upon hearing the sound.
"Don't kill me, don't kill me."
Seeing this, Kubasi tapped on the table, attracting the attention of several female clerks, who gradually quieted down under his cold expression.
Where is Oliver's office?
Seeing that the man in front of them didn't intend to kill them, the female clerks quietly relaxed. One of the older female clerks mustered up her courage and said...
"Lord Oliver's office is at the end of the stairs on the fifth floor, turn left."
After getting the answer he wanted, Kubasi nodded and said to the several female staff members who were trembling like quails:
"You can leave now, thank you for your cooperation."
In the blink of an eye, Kubasi reached the fifth floor, confirmed his location, and arrived at the door at the far end of the corridor. He reached out and pressed the doorknob, but the door did not open.
With a whoosh, a flash of silver light appeared, and the wooden door shattered into pieces and fell to the ground. Kubasi sheathed his sword and entered the room.
All I can say is that Baron Oliver was a man who knew how to enjoy life. The entire floor was covered with snow-white carpets, and the room's furnishings were of the highest quality, nothing could be more luxurious.
Kubasi looked around the room and spotted an alloy safe under the desk. He picked it up, placed it on the desk, and examined it closely.
"Ha~ It's still an alchemical product from Huancai City. You greedy fool, you even steal this military-grade document case. Cabinzan, call Darcy up."
The captain of the guards standing at the door received the order and quickly went downstairs. A short while later, a short man followed Cabinzan upstairs.
"Commander, what are your orders?"
Kubasi tapped on the safe on the table.
Can you open this?
The short man stepped forward and examined the safe closely. He climbed up and twisted the gears on the safe door a few times before raising his head and nodding.
"Sure, Commander. It'll only take a few minutes, and it's similar to what we use every day."
Kubasi nodded upon hearing Darcy's words, then turned to Cabinzan beside him and said:
"Go check how they're packing up. Signal the other squads to prepare to retreat; the nearby garrison should be arriving soon."
"Yes"
Watching his men leave, Coopers sat on the table, watching Darcy turn the safe, and once again fell into memories.
"Brother Ye Liwen, what exactly happened? You've been beating and scolding the brothers these past few days, and they're starting to complain a lot."
Brother Ye Liwen! You can talk to your brothers about anything. We've been through so much together, there's nothing we can't face.
"Ava! Don't ask anymore. Knowing too much won't do you any good. You'll find out in a while." "Brother Yelvin, where did Abimoya and the others go? I noticed his troops are gone. We were drinking together yesterday."
'...'
'Brother Yelvin! ...!! How did Abimoya die in Fallen Leaf Town? What was he doing? Why can't I find his marching records?'
"Ava, don't ask anymore. I have something to tell you, and you must remember it well. If you have the chance, take your brothers and leave this place. I will write a transfer order; listen to me. No matter what happens, don't come back."
"Commander, we just received a military intelligence report. Regimental Commander Yelvin has been arrested for embezzling military funds and issuing false orders. He is currently in the custody of the military court and will be sentenced to death in three days!"
"Commander Cubas! Commander Cubas! Your subordinate has opened it."
Kubasi, snapping out of his reverie, turned around blankly and saw Darcy calling him. He was stunned for a moment before realizing what was happening.
"Okay, thank you for your hard work. You can go back to the team now."
"Yes! Captain!"
With Darcy gone, only Coopers remained in the office. He shook his head, suppressing his frustration, and turned to walk towards the safe.
He casually tossed the jewels in the safe aside, picked up the documents inside, and began to read them. As he turned the pages, Cubas' breathing became rapid.
[13th of the Late Summer Month]
The plan has been agreed upon and the candidates have been selected. Oliver is simply waiting for the specific personnel to arrive before proceeding with the arrangements.
No viewing or recording is permitted during the journey; a supreme pass is issued.
……
[16th of the Late Summer Month]
It has been confirmed that Lord Levin of the North has led the Golden Bear Cavalry on their departure and will proceed as planned.
The 17th Meteor Cavalry Regiment has been dispatched to pursue them. This operation is a secret mission; please read and burn this document.
[27th of the Late Summer Month]
The target has arrived at the designated location and is awaiting its return journey. The subsequent specific plan will be implemented according to the following milestones.
……
[3th day of the Autumn Harvest Month]
The planned personnel have arrived at the location. Once the key personnel arrive, the plan can be launched. After the objective is achieved, the subsequent plans will be executed according to schedule.
[12th day of the Autumn Harvest Month]
The plan was launched as scheduled, and Whiterun was expected to be breached on the same day.
……
[14th day of the Autumn Harvest Month]
The plan has fallen through due to unforeseen circumstances. Contact with the North has been lost and the current situation is unknown. Undercover agents have been redeployed.
The original plan failed, and the plan was adjusted. This has attracted the attention of the Imperial Military Intelligence Service, which will separate the participating troops. The personnel have been selected, and Yelvin, the Grand Knight of Windhelm, will be chosen to close the loop of the plan.
[Day 18 of the Autumn Harvest Month]
An unexpected incident occurred during Yelvin's execution: the Sixth Legion's heavy swordsmen attacked the execution site, and Ulriel was killed on the spot by the rebels. Yelvin, the target, is now dead.
The plan has been adjusted again; we await the release of the new plan.
After reading through the few pages of intelligence in his hand, Kubasi felt a cold sweat break out on his back. Although the intelligence was only partial and some parts were not even coherent, as a military commander for many years, he could still see that this was a huge conspiracy targeting the North.
The Lord of Windhelm, Ulriel, whom he killed, Baron Oliver of Helgen, and his good brother Yelvin were all the executors of this plan.
For some unknown reason, the attack on Whiterun City at a crucial point in the plan failed for unknown reasons. Then, in order to avoid the attention of MI6, he made his older brother Yelvin a scapegoat.
The matter should have ended there, but things took another turn when he led his troops back to confront and kill Ulriel...
Thinking about this, Kubasi finally understood the meaning conveyed by Yelvin's eyes on his deathbed.
A sob came from the empty office. The steely Kubasi hugged a few pieces of paper and cried bitterly. It was unclear whether he was crying for the passing of his older brother Yelvin or for this ridiculous thing.
“Brother Yeliwen, I understand your pain! We are not pawns to be manipulated. I will make these scheming nobles pay the price.”
He stuffed several intelligence reports into his pocket, led the safe out of the room, and his hunched figure slowly straightened up, his resolve growing stronger.
After going downstairs, he tossed the safe to his men and looked around. As he looked at his men, it started to rain in Helgen, where winter was approaching, and the flames around him gradually dwindled in the rain.
"Commander, should we prepare to retreat?"
Kubasi looked up at the dark sky, rain streaming down his face, indistinguishable between rain and tears.
"Send the signal to prepare for retreat."
As a huge signal flare exploded in the sky, masked men from all over the town quickly gathered in the direction of the flare.
Dang~dang~dang~
"Captain Adachi, your strength is still outstanding."
Despite the masked men's obstruction, the security captain was unable to break through. Seeing the fire in the town growing larger, Anda became anxious and began to launch some desperate attacks.
Soon, several wounds appeared on both of them. As the rain fell, the blood on the wounds was quickly washed away, leaving the flesh white and raw.
A bright signal flare rose in the distance, illuminating their faces clearly. Looking in the direction from which it was launched, their expressions were completely opposite. Anda looked at the administration building with despair; the flames there were the largest, indicating that something might have happened to the entire building.
"Captain Anda, it seems we have achieved our objective. I'll be leaving now."
He saluted Anda, twirled his sword, sheathed it, and quickly assembled at the signal flare location.
Watching the masked man disappear into the distance, Anda seemed to have lost all his strength, kneeling on the roof like a soulless sculpture.
After a while, several security guards climbed onto the roof and cautiously asked Anda, who was kneeling on the ground:
"Captain? Captain?"
Seeing that Anda did not respond, the group nervously approached him and breathed a sigh of relief when they saw Anda's heaving chest.
"Captain! Are you okay?"
"It's alright, let's go to the administration building."
It's available now, I'll speed things up, my darlings!
