Chapter 78 Falling from the Clouds
Chapter 78 Falling from the Clouds
Benjamin, caught up in the excitement, paid no attention to what Haven said. The dice clinked against the rim of the cup. Amid cheers, he slammed the cup down on the table and glared at Haven with bloodshot eyes.
"Mr. Will, you choose, I choose."
Looking at Benjamin, who seemed certain of victory, Haven chuckled and recalled the slogan of Uncle Hat from his previous life.
'Gambling! It will lead to broken families!'
Poison! Families torn apart, lives lost!
Yellow! Yellow is alright.
Since you're so confident in yourself, if I don't let you go out naked today, it won't serve as a warning or educational lesson.
"I'll choose, big, four points!"
Benjamin let out a laugh filled with utter contempt as Haven announced the points.
This fool has lost his mind from all the losses, even revealing his winnings. I'll spare his clothes later, considering how many coins he's contributed. That brat ruined my plans with his words; I'll make sure he wins all his clothes. The girl next to him looks pretty good, tsk tsk tsk~
Benjamin shook his head, temporarily suppressing the exciting thought, the veins on his arms bulging.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Will, but I'll accept these ten gold coins!"
However, the regret, remorse, and frustration that Benjamin had expected did not appear on Havent's face. Instead, the latter looked at him with a playful expression, which made Benjamin feel that something was wrong. He quickly looked down.
"Hiss!!!! How is this possible?!"
With the water glass moved aside, the four-dot face of the die lay quietly on the table. Looking at Benjamin, who was standing there in a daze, Haven tapped the table lightly with his finger.
"What a pity, Mr. Ben, it seems my luck has turned in my favor."
Benjamin rubbed his eyes in disbelief, looked again, and it was indeed four points. Even after Lori stood up and took the gold coins from his hand, he still couldn't believe he had lost.
"Mr. Ben Affleck? Mr. Ben Affleck? Still want to play?"
As if waking from a dream, Benjamin saw Haven looking at him like he was a puppy and instantly lost his temper.
That look in their eyes! That look in their eyes!
Who do you think you are? No one can look down on me, Blood Blade!
You damned bastards, one day I'll trample you under my feet.
"Play! I was just letting you win, don't get too cocky!"
Seeing Benjamin's face trembling with anger, Haven couldn't help but click his tongue in amazement.
'This mentality is terrible. Just one loss, and it's already too much money they won from me to handle?'
"Alright, now that I've won, how big of a bet are you planning to go this time, Mr. Ben?"
The more indifferent and nonchalant Haven seemed, the angrier Benjamin became. What was so great about rich people?
"Ten... no, five gold coins. We'll take it slow, Mr. Will."
Benjamin originally intended to teach this arrogant brat a lesson, but the limited funds in his pocket forced the gambler to bow to the pressures of life.
Haven took 10 of the 20 gold coins he had just received and pushed them to the center of the table, looking at Benjamin with a smile.
Under Haven's gaze, Benjamin felt there were too many people around him, and he could hardly breathe. He reached out and pushed the people who were crowding around him from both sides.
"Get out of my way, get out of my way, get away from me and don't interfere with my dice rolling, or I'll blame you if I lose." Seeing that everyone around him had dispersed, Benjamin swallowed hard, prayed to Lady Luck again in his heart, and put the dice in the cup and started shaking them. The dice made a crisp sound as they hit the cup.
Everyone stared intently at Benjamin's hands. As the water glass fell, the onlookers didn't dare to breathe and turned to look at Havent.
"Mr. Will, big or small?"
Benjamin looked at Havent, who was resting his chin on his left hand, and the dryness in his throat made him want to swallow.
"Mr. Ben, you seem a little nervous. Would you like some water?"
Seeing Haven voice the thought that had just crossed his mind, his expression changed slightly. But with so many people watching, he couldn't let his momentum falter. In gambling, momentum is the most important thing.
“I’m not thirsty, Mr. Will. Would you prefer the larger or smaller one?”
Haven found Benjamin's wide-eyed stare amusing and decided to let him off the hook for now, ceasing his teasing.
"Hmm... small, right? By the way, how about we increase the stakes? I can guess the numbers."
Seeing Haven's nonchalant attitude, Benjamin was furious. This was a gamble worth 10 gold coins, and you were taking it too lightly.
"Mr. Will, let's skip the guessing game, lest you make a fool of yourself if you guess wrong. It's a small number, right? Well then, I'll start."
Benjamin took two deep breaths, abruptly lifted the cup, and upon seeing the number, his body felt as if it had no bones, and he slumped into the chair.
The dice on the table showed a two up, and Benjamin sat in his chair, muttering to himself in disbelief.
"That's impossible, why isn't it working anymore?"
Looking at the dejected Benjamin, Haven found it somewhat amusing. "How about that, confused now? There's always someone better. My abilities far surpass yours."
"Mr. Big Ben? Still want to play?"
You don't seem like the gambling god of Helgen; perhaps Lady Luck isn't on your side.
I remember a bard saying, "Someone like you just got lucky."
Those around him watched as the young mage won again, exchanging strange glances, but because of Benjamin's notorious reputation, no one dared to utter a sound, for fear of being used as a punching bag.
"Boss, boss, let's call it quits and go. We still have thirty gold coins to our name."
Standing behind Benjamin, Gian saw that his boss couldn't win and quickly tried to persuade him. Unexpectedly, Benjamin suddenly turned around, looked at Gian with bloodshot eyes, and slapped Gian across the face.
"Fuck you, it's you, babbling on and on, you're driving me crazy, you loser, get out of here."
Gian, whose good intentions were misunderstood, was slapped hard by Benjamin and sat down on the ground. He covered his swollen cheek and glared angrily at Benjamin, who had already turned around. He opened his mouth and spat out a tooth. Amid the murmurs of the onlookers, he slowly stood up and stood silently to the side.
"Play! Keep playing! I, Blood Blade, am not afraid of losing! Come on, I'll bet everything! I want to see if you can win again!"
Seeing Benjamin getting a little carried away, Haven shook his head helplessly. He was indeed a gambling addict who didn't know when to quit while he was ahead and insisted on losing everything before he would give up.
"Okay, actually your little brother is right. If you win now, you can take away 30 gold coins, which is almost equivalent to your annual income."
But for a gambler, having 50 gold coins is unacceptable if it becomes 30; that would not be winning 30, but losing 20.
"Come on, stop with the nonsense. What, you're scared?"
