Chapter 57 Camping
Chapter 57 Camping (Please continue reading)
Serena stood under the tree and looked up at Haven, who was climbing up the tree.
A 'thud'
The stretcher had only been lowered halfway when the rope snapped. Startled, Haven nearly fell from the tree, but quickly used her core strength to brace herself against the branch. Relieved, Haven breathed a sigh of relief.
'Luckily, I'm a little genius, otherwise falling from that height would have hurt terribly.'
He lifted his head to wipe the sweat from his brow, and then noticed the hemp rope in his hand.
"Fuck!"
Realizing what was happening, Haven quickly peered down and saw Serena curiously examining the wooden frame that had fallen in front of her.
"Thank goodness, everyone's alright. This workmanship is really solid."
Haven jumped down from the tree and saw little Lori with two streams of blood flowing from his nostrils. He very naturally and considerately wiped them away. Looking at the little boy who was still fast asleep, he felt a little strange.
"Wow? That's some amazing sleep quality! He didn't even wake up after falling from that height? Did he faint from the fall again?"
As he spoke, he reached out and patted little Lori's cheek a few times, but the little boy still didn't react.
At that moment, Serena crouched down and touched Lori's head.
"He was affected by the magic circle in this forest, which drained his magic power, causing him to fall into a deep sleep. This is probably his body's self-protection mechanism."
Hearing Serena's explanation, Haven realized what was going on. He had heard his teacher mention it before, but so much had happened that he hadn't even considered it in that direction.
Once you know the cause, it's very easy to solve.
A flash of light appeared on the ring on his finger, and a bottle of pale blue magic potion appeared in Havent's hand. He reached out and pried open Lori's mouth, gulping it down. Sure enough, as the potion flowed into his stomach and quickly spread, Lori's expression improved.
"Phew, thank goodness you reminded me, Serena. Otherwise, in another two hours, his magic would have dried up for too long, and he would have gone mad."
"Ah."
Looking at Serena, who was standing obediently to the side, Haven was a little overwhelmed. How was he supposed to talk to a girl who was both pretty and quiet?
"Let's go then. This time we can finally find a place to rest. I don't think I've forgotten anything. It's strange, my memory is usually excellent."
Haven picked Lori up again and started looking for a campsite, while Serena followed quietly beside her, her eyes glazed over, lost in thought.
A dozen minutes later, the three arrived at a large rock. Haven stood on the rock, surveyed the surroundings, and nodded in satisfaction.
"This place will do! It's spacious enough! Except for the lack of water, it's perfect."
There was still no response. Haven looked down and saw that those who were sleeping on the ground were still lying on the ground, and those who were in a daze were still in a daze. He shook his head helplessly, thinking that Serena was unlikely to help him build a place to sleep on the ground.
With no other option, Haven jumped off the rock and came to the center of the open space. With a flash of his ring, a large pile of supplies appeared on the ground. It has to be said that Marquis Charlton was really generous; the gift he gave, the 'Starry Sky Covenant,' had an absurdly large internal space.
Soon, a large tent was erected. After setting up three lines of cordon around the area, Haven walked towards the fire and asked Serena, who was sitting by the fire warming herself.
"What would you like to eat? I brought a lot of food. Do you drink alcohol?"
Serena stared at Haven with her big, bright eyes, trying hard to process what he said. After thinking for a while...
"Bread! Delicious!"
"Bread? What's so good about that?"
Let me cook for you. I used to cook for myself all the time at home. Wow, Serena, I almost threw up when I ate the cook's food back then. How could she make such good ingredients taste so bad? But, under my tutelage, you've mastered about a fifth of my skills now, haven't you?
However, my old man seems to have lost his sense of taste; he can eat such disgusting food. Although I can eat it too, I still try to eat better whenever possible…
From a distance, a graceful young woman was intently watching a young man standing beside a wok, chattering away as he cooked. The scene looked incredibly heartwarming.
"Here you go, this is a cream of mushroom and jerky soup. I added a little honey to balance the flavor. This snow berry filling bread is one I brought from Whiterun. I must say, Aunt Barbara is a very skillful person. I only made it once, and she learned how to make it."
Serena took the large bowl handed to her by Haven, brought her small, cute nose close to smell it, and her beautiful eyes instantly curved into crescents. She picked up a spoon and launched an attack on the cream of mushroom soup in the large bowl.
Seeing the girl wolfing down her food, Haven nodded in satisfaction, then walked back towards the fire.
“Eat slowly, Serena. There’s still plenty left. I’m going to fry a few more steaks. You can try them later.”
Under the campfire, the girl held a plate and, without any ladylike manners, tore into the pan-fried steak that Haven handed her. Her eyes sparkled as she watched Haven, who was sitting opposite her, eating heartily, as if she had discovered a new continent.
"Serena, chew, chew~ I heard you say that your mother sent you. You looked very dangerous just now. Is your mother sure you could come alone?"
Serena swallowed the food in her mouth and tilted her head to think for a moment.
“This is Serena’s mission. Mom has more important things to do. And Will, aren’t you all alone?”
"Hmm~ If you put it that way, then we're pretty much the same. My dad also has important things to do, so he needs me to go to the capital alone."
After listening to Havent's explanation, Serena nodded and continued eating.
"Why are there abyssal monsters here? Could it be that a spatial rift has appeared here?"
“Serena doesn’t know much about this. Her mother only said there was a source of pollution here and sent me to check it out. Even the wolves that attacked you before were contaminated.”
Upon hearing Serena's description, Haven keenly identified a key word.
"Pollution? What does that mean?"
This time, however, Serena didn't answer quickly. Instead, she thought about it seriously for a while and then shook her head.
"Serena doesn't know either; her mother didn't tell her."
After saying that, he handed over the large bowl he was holding.
Would you like another bowl of cream of mushroom soup?
Serena nodded obediently. Having already eaten his fill, Havent let out a loud burp in shock, put down the large bowl Serena handed him, and picked up the iron pot, placing it in front of Serena.
"You eat, I'm full. I need to rest for a bit. If you want anything else, I'll make it for you."
"Hmm~ I'd also like the beef."
Haven, who was already lying on the grass, sat up abruptly upon hearing Serena's words, staring in shock at the girl's unchanging abdomen.
