Knight Lords: Infinite Simulation and the Path of Light
Chapter 3: The Final Charge
Chapter 3 The Final Charge
If a bard were present, he might compose the most satisfying piece of music of his life.
The most classic, even somewhat clichéd, plot in fantasy adventure stories—"knight versus dragon"—is unfolding right now.
The shield wall of fighting spirit formed by several shields shattered upon impact with the undead dragon.
Nevertheless, it still managed to block the dragon's attack this time.
"put!"
A dozen arrows, having been charged for even longer, hurtled towards the dragon again with a whistle, forcing it to repel its subsequent attack.
It leaped into the air again, clearly intending to make its fourth dive.
"Again!?"
Even the usually composed Knight Commander Taren was now bewildered.
Even though the dragon itself is already an undead, it may have lost its original spellcasting ability.
However, it still possesses formidable physical attributes and can easily engage in hand-to-hand combat with a group of temporary mid-level knights.
Even so, it did not choose to end the battle quickly through melee combat, but instead tried to dive and ram again and again.
It's important to know that undead creatures cannot heal themselves when injured.
An undead warrior whose arm has been cut off will lose it forever, and similarly, a dragon damaged by a dive attack will never recover.
Although it is very powerful, its constant impact on a piece of hard, weathered rock will soon leave it completely broken.
Haven also noticed the dragon's unusual attack patterns.
Using its physical advantage to launch physical attacks is the only way the dragon can deal damage.
An overly aggressive dive and impact would severely deplete its physical advantages, making it more of a loss than a direct hand-to-hand combat.
The dragon seemed to be launching a "suicide" attack.
"Second group, load the guns; first group, deploy the shields!"
Knight Commander Taren gave the order once again.
Haven, who was on the edge of the battlefield, turned his gaze toward the territory.
White aurora burst forth from inside the city walls, flashing rhythmically.
The teleportation has begun.
Haven breathed a sigh of relief. If their fighting couldn't buy time for the evacuation of their people, then all their efforts would have been in vain.
Fortunately, the territory discovered the situation in time and activated the teleportation array at the same time as the battle.
The undead army of the Church of Death has gradually awakened, clearly aware of the large-scale transfer formation being activated within the territory of Hailan.
They wouldn't allow those "transformation materials" to escape so easily, so the undead army of thousands was immediately spurred to the city.
It's ok.
As long as their team can hold off the dragon, the knights remaining in the city can completely withstand the undead's attack.
We must wait until dawn.
The dragon's fourth dive was in the works, and the sonic boom roared through our ears once again.
Haven himself was only a low-level mage, so he couldn't play much of a role in this situation.
He could only watch as the dragon-charged knights reassembled their shield wall, repeating the motion of "being knocked back by charged arrows, flying into the sky, and preparing to dive again."
They're practically risking their lives.
Yes, in Havent's view, the undead dragon chose a strategy that maximized losses.
Although it may be inappropriate to say it this way, the dead dragon seemed to be "not afraid of death".
wrong.
Haven suddenly noticed the key point.
His gaze was fixed on the battered and bruised dragon in the sky, and a possibility came to mind.
Perhaps it was "seeking death"?
Dark green lava flowed from the wounds on its body, making the already dangerously green dragon appear even more distorted.
eye.
Haven finally noticed the strangeness in the dragon's eyes.
Beneath the folds, turning, is an eye with golden vertical pupils!
The image of those undead whose every pore glowed green instantly triggered a powerful intuition in Havent's mind.
It's not a ghost!
At least not entirely!
A complete conversion ritual by the Church of Death will fill the converted object with a green aura of death.
The aura of death flows through every part of the body, especially where the elements meet most closely.
Clearly, the eyes are one of them. In other words, as long as the dragon retains its golden pupils, its consciousness has not died, and it remains a living dragon!
I see.
Therefore, the demonic dragon is attacking them under the control of the death monk, but it itself is determined to die!
Haven figured out the key to it.
Just then, the dragon swooped down once more.
Although Knight Commander Taren had already swapped the two groups of knights, it was clear that this attack was much more intense.
The knights, who had hastily changed formation, did not have time to infuse the shield wall with more battle aura.
"boom!"
The shield wall, which was not yet fully formed, was smashed apart.
The archers behind, who had not yet fully charged up, had no choice but to quickly scatter, and three or five of them were caught in the sweeping attack of the dragon.
The formation of a coordinated shield wall requires the infusion of the fighting spirit of at least ten knights, but currently there are only seven or eight knights left on the field who are still capable of fighting.
After crashing into the ground, the dragon rose into the sky once more.
Haven knew they were doomed this time.
"I swear to serve my lord to the death!"
"I swear to be loyal to you to the death!"
"."
The remaining knights, now without their combo abilities, shouted and drew their most handy longswords.
The sword tips pointed at the demonic dragon in the sky; they were preparing for their final battle.
As Haven watched all this, a deep sense of powerlessness welled up inside him.
"It's alright, my lord."
The voice of the Taren Knight rang out.
“We admire your wisdom and kindness; you have done more than enough.”
Haven opened his mouth as if to say something, but held back.
There was still a long time before dawn, and in that short time, not even half of the population could be evacuated.
"I'm sorry, my command skills weren't good enough."
Knight Commander Taren continued, "I should have let them hold out a bit longer instead of rushing to replace the front line, which has led to the current situation."
Another sonic boom came.
Haven was inexplicably annoyed by the voice.
He looked at Knight Commander Taren and the other knights, some standing and some lying down, and his tightly furrowed brows suddenly relaxed.
"It's alright, knights. You've done enough."
The dragon's dive was imminent, and the knights launched one last charge.
Just then, Haven caught a glimpse of a figure standing in the distance out of the corner of his eye.
The other person was wearing a long robe, the typical attire of a death monk.
He was the priest in charge of controlling the dragon.
"So you are here."
Haven silently noted down his location.
He kept a close eye on every movement and rustle at that moment, trying to record as many details as possible.
But at that very moment, the dragon crashed into and killed several knights who were blocking its path.
With a loud bang, Haven's five senses came to an abrupt halt.
It's okay, you all did a really good job.
A voice rang out in Haven's mental space.
That was his own voice.
[The first mental space combat simulation has ended.]
My knights, this will not be your last charge.
I will do better next time.
Until I lead you to victory over those damned bastards, and that dragon.
