Chapter 234 The Half-Elf's Path to Redemption
Chapter 234 The Half-Elf's Path to Redemption
"Shh~"
"Everyone be careful, this is the largest slave gathering place of the Duramaya family."
"Today, through our efforts, we will rescue our compatriots who are trapped here."
If Haven were here, he would definitely recognize this half-elf wielding twin swords and speaking as Ansfati Moto Morrow, the half-elf who fought with the Dark Alliance the day he went out with Alice.
The cold starlight pierced the thin mist at the edge of the Evernight Forest, casting its light upon the "Golden Cage," the largest slave camp of the Duramaya family.
The towering wooden and stone walls, coated with anti-climb paint, stood guard. The camp was deathly silent, save for the monotonous echo of the patrolmen's boots on the ground and the suppressed sobs from the distant shacks.
In the dense forest surrounding the camp, shadowy figures could be seen.
Somerol's sacrifice was like a spark, igniting the long-dormant will to resist in the hearts of countless half-elves.
What was originally scattered and desperate sporadic resistance quickly coalesced into a torrent of revenge, led by several half-elves who displayed extraordinary power.
After several successful small battles, their target became the "golden cage" that symbolized the endless greed and cruelty of the Durhamoye family.
The leader was the tall half-elf warrior who had rescued Raya by the stone wall a few days earlier. He wielded two ancient-looking longswords, their blades gleaming with a pale blue light. Ansfati's eyes, sharp as an eagle's, scanned the brightly lit camp watchtowers and patrol routes. Beside him stood several figures, each with a distinct air, yet all exuding a powerful aura:
"Rock" Tork: An exceptionally robust half-elf with skin exhibiting rock-like gray-brown patterns. He appeared very taciturn, and even a gentle tap of his massive fist on the ground caused the surrounding soil to tremble slightly.
"Shadow Dancer" Liriel: Slender and seemingly blending into the shadows themselves. She wields two poisoned daggers, her eyes gleaming with an eerie green light in the darkness, like a nocturnal feline. As an expert in assassination and intelligence, the camp's defense map had already been passed to her through turned slaves.
Elrond, the "Wisteria Heart Messenger": An elderly half-elf druid, deeply wrinkled, yet with eyes full of wisdom and compassion. He holds a tender green twig in his hand, resonating with the surrounding forest atmosphere. As a druid, he can awaken plants and communicate with the spirits of nature, providing group healing and crowd control.
And then there's Raya, tightly protected behind Ansfati, her eyes vacant, her body still shrouded in unstable energy fluctuations.
Saloyan's blood seemed to have left an eternal mark on the half-elf girl's soul, and the terrifying power known as "Entropy Annihilation" stirred restlessly in her unconscious pain.
Although Ansfati rushed to their location as fast as possible that day, Raya's blessed power began to be released uncontrollably after sensing the danger.
After Ansfati drove back the two members of the Duramoy family, the half-elf boy carrying Raya had become a blood-soaked figure.
After Ansfati managed to pull Raya out and wake her up by sheer willpower, the half-elf boy was already melting. Strangely, however, the boy was still alive under these circumstances.
After the Grand Elder examined him, it was discovered that the half-elf boy was also a Chosen One. If it weren't for the powerful energy within him protecting him, he would have turned to ashes long ago, just like the surrounding rocks and trees.
But Raya, upon waking up, did not see it that way; she only believed that she had hurt her brother Saloyan.
Ansfati's voice was deep and firm, echoing through the silent forest and reaching the ears of every half-elf warrior lying in ambush:
"Fellow countrymen, the 'golden cage' is right before us! The spirits of those who died in Sumerol are watching us! Our loved ones, bound by chains and tortured by whips, are waiting for us!"
Tonight, there is no turning back; only blood and fire can wash away this century of humiliation! For freedom! For our homeland!
"For freedom! For our homeland!"
The suppressed roar, like muffled thunder, rolled through the forest.
"action!"
As Ansfatti finished speaking
The shadow dancer, Liriel, was the first to transform into an almost invisible wisp of black smoke, silently approaching the wall.
Her target was the two highest watchtowers; the throwing knife pierced the sentry's throat with pinpoint accuracy, leaving him no time to even groan.
Almost simultaneously, several inconspicuous weeds on the ground suddenly sprouted wildly, and tenacious vines, like venomous snakes, coiled around the ankles of the patrolling henchmen, dragging them down and tightening their grip—the Wisps of Vines, Elon, had made his move. The screams were cut short before they even began.
"Now! Break down the door!"
Seeing that everything was proceeding according to plan, Ansfati let out a low growl.
Rock Tork let out a roar that shook the mountains and forests, his muscles bulging, and the stone patterns on his skin suddenly glowing. Like a human battering ram, he slammed into the massive, iron-clad wooden gate of the camp with tremendous force!
"Boom——!!!"
A deafening crash shattered the stillness of the night. The sturdy door, struck by Tork's inhuman force, caved in and cracked like paper! Wood chips and metal fragments flew everywhere! The latch and the top beam behind the door snapped instantly!
“Enemy attack—!!”
The piercing alarm finally blared, and the camp erupted in chaos. The jerks, disheveled, rushed out of their barracks, staring in horror at the broken-down gate and the Avengers surging in like a tidal wave.
"Charge in! Rescue our people!"
Ansfati drew his twin swords, the azure light slicing through the darkness, instantly slicing away two charging henchmen. He charged into the chaotic camp at the forefront, his sword flashing as he sent his henchmen falling one after another.
Ordinary half-elf warriors followed closely behind, armed with crude weapons—sharpened wooden sticks, captured swords, and even stones—their eyes burning with long-suppressed rage as they fought their way into the terrified minions. Shouts of battle, the clash of weapons, and screams of agony echoed through the night.
In the center of the camp was the largest area of slave cages.
Hundreds of terrified half-elf slaves huddled together, their chains rattling. Guarding them were the elite guards of the Duramoy family and Mangu, a high-ranking jungle hunter and confidant of the slave owner West.
"Hold on! You useless piece of trash! Hold on!"
Mangu's face turned ashen. After narrowly escaping the encirclement last time, he never expected the resistance to arrive so swiftly and be so well-organized.
Mangu drew his bow and nocked an arrow. An arrow wreathed in eerie green battle aura shot out like a venomous snake, instantly piercing the chests of two half-elf warriors charging ahead.
"Your opponent is me!"
Ansfati moved like lightning, appearing instantly in front of Mangu. His twin swords intertwined to form a net of azure light, deflecting and shattering all the deadly arrows that Mangu fired afterward.
The clanging sounds were dense and heavy, as the duel between the two high-level experts erupted instantly. Sword energy crisscrossed and battle aura overflowed, forcing the surrounding henchmen and resistance fighters to stay away.
On the other side, Rock Tork was like a bulldozer on the battlefield. He ignored the swords and blades that were cutting into his body; ordinary weapons could only leave shallow white marks on his petrified skin. He swung his giant fist, creating a whistling sound, and smashed the henchmen squad that were trying to organize a defensive line, sending them flying and flattening them along with their shields.
Tork rushed into the prison area, grabbed a wooden pillar supporting a huge cage with both arms, and roared as he exerted his strength! The thick wooden pillar groaned under the weight, and he pulled it up and broke it! The entire prison area shook violently, and parts of the fence collapsed!
The half-elf druid stood in the relatively safe rear, chanting ancient druidic incantations.
The tender branch in his hand shone brightly with green light, and the ground instantly cracked. Tough, thorny brambles burst forth from the soil, frantically entangling the rebels' claws that were trying to flank them.
At the same time, the soft green light fell like a drizzle on the wounded resistance fighters, and their wounds stopped bleeding and healed at a speed visible to the naked eye, greatly boosting morale.
However, the focus of the battlefield was soon drawn to a terrifying force.
West, protected by his henchmen, recognized Raya in the chaos. His fat face was filled with horror and resentment.
"It's her! That little monster! Mangu! Kill her first! At all costs!"
West, with a hoarse voice, commanded his remaining henchmen to charge toward Raya, who was being protected by people specially arranged by Ansfati and was located on the edge of the battlefield.
The warriors protecting Raya fought valiantly, but several fearless henchmen still broke through the defenses, their menacing blades slashing at the little girl whose eyes remained vacant as she curled up on the ground, hugging her knees.
"no, do not want……"
Raya seemed to be stimulated by this familiar killing intent, and the image of Saloyan lying covered in blood flooded her mind again. Extreme fear and pain instantly overwhelmed her fragile mental defenses.
"ah--!!!"
A shriek, sharper than before and filled with despair and a will to destroy, suddenly erupted!
Centered on Raya, a visible, distorted, grayish-white force field instantly expanded outwards!
The entropy annihilation force field erupted completely!
The henchmen who rushed towards her were the first to be hit. Their movements froze instantly, and the ferocity on their faces transformed into extreme fear. Then, their bodies, armor, and weapons, as if swept away by the torrent of time for millions of years, rapidly lost their color and texture, crumbling and weathering from the edges into the finest gray powder, as if they had never existed!
The force field expanded rapidly, sweeping across the ground. Grass withered and turned to ash; soil lost moisture and vitality, becoming like lifeless gravel; wooden fences that it touched rotted and collapsed silently; even a rock half a person's height rapidly turned to sand and collapsed as the force field passed by!
"Get out of the way!"
Even Ansfati and Mangu, who were engaged in fierce combat, felt a deadly threat and spontaneously separated and retreated rapidly.
Rock Tork roared, shielding several of his unprepared brethren. The stone patterns on his body erupted with a powerful, earthy-yellow light, withstanding the corrosive force of the energy field. Even so, fine cracks and signs of decay appeared on his tough skin. The old druid Elon immediately poured his powerful life energy into him, maintaining his defense.
Wherever the force field passes, regardless of friend or foe, all are reduced to nothingness!
Several half-elf warriors who couldn't escape in time, along with their minions, were wiped out along with the ground beneath their feet! Only an enlarged, smooth, mirror-like, and deathly-sounding circular crater remained!
Raya stood in the center of the pit, her small body trembling slightly. Her lake-green eyes lost focus, filled only with endless pain and a desire for destruction.
The entropy annihilation field flickered around her like breathing; although its range was no longer expanding rapidly, its threat was in no way diminished.
West hid behind a boulder, gazing at the hellish scene, and was terrified.
"Damn it! Damn it, she really is that disgusting half-elf hero! Run! Get out of this awful place!"
The scene before him completely shattered West's will to fight, and he scrambled away into the depths of the camp.
Mangu glanced at the out-of-control Raya, then at the chaotic battlefield and his demoralized subordinates, gritted his teeth, and abandoned his fight with Ansfati. With a flash, he disappeared into the shadows, clearly to protect West's evacuation.
Raya's outburst, while causing terrible collateral damage and chaos, also completely shattered the last will of resistance of the "Golden Cage" defenders. The surviving henchmen, seeing the shallow, greyish-white pit symbolizing utter destruction, were terrified and threw down their weapons, scattering in all directions. The slave camp's defenses collapsed completely.
"Suppress her power! Quickly!"
Ansfati urgently spoke to old Druna. Elon's expression turned grave as he channeled the power of nature with all his might. Emerald light surged toward Raya as if it were a tangible force, attempting to soothe her raging spirit and neutralize the destructive entropy-annihilating energy. The gentle green light collided and dissolved violently with the gray-white force field, producing a hissing sound.
Rock Tork used his massive body to block the stray arrows that might be aimed at Raya, while simultaneously commanding the terrified rebel warriors:
"Don't stand there! Quickly! Smash all the cages! Take your comrades and retreat! Get out of this area!"
The surviving half-elf warriors, suppressing their fear of the destructive force and their grief over the accidental deaths of their brethren, unleashed their last strength. They used axes, heavy objects, and even their bare hands to furiously smash the chains and bars of the cages.
"Bang! Crash!"
The sounds of chains breaking and fences collapsing echoed throughout the area.
"Free! We are free!"
"Come out quickly! Follow the group!"
"Watch out! Stay away from that pit!"
The ragged, tormented half-elf slaves, filled with unbelievable ecstasy and deep fear, looked in Raya's direction, supporting each other as they stumbled and poured out of their cages.
Some of the stronger ones immediately picked up the weapons discarded by the henchmen on the ground and joined the guards and the rearguard.
A torrent of life and hope began to flow out of the dilapidated "Golden Cage" camp and move deeper into the forest.
The sky was gradually turning a pale white. The campfires were still burning, billowing thick smoke that illuminated the ruins and the chilling, greyish-white crater.
Ansfati stood on a high point at the edge of the camp, watching his compatriots support each other as they disappeared into the forest. He then turned back to look at Raya, whose force field fluctuations had finally begun to weaken under Elon's continued reassurance, and whose eyes had regained a hint of confusion.
Tork walked over, his rock-like face showing signs of weariness and heaviness:
"The cost... is too high."
He was referring to the warriors and innocent slaves who perished as a result of Raya's out-of-control power.
Ansfatti was silent for a moment, then sheathed his swords, his voice carrying a steely resolve:
"The price is enormous, but the road to freedom has always been paved with blood and fire. Many have died, and some don't even know that we will die one day, but as long as half-elves can gain true freedom, it will all be worth it."
The first rays of the rising sun pierced through the clouds, illuminating the devastated ruins of the "Golden Cage" and the winding path of redemption, stained with blood, tears, and hope, leading into the depths of the forest.
The surviving half-elves, bearing wounds and fear, but also carrying the unprecedented dawn of freedom, embarked on a long journey to find a new home. Ansfati, Tork, Elon, and Raya, carried on his back and falling into a deep sleep after exhaustion, became the first beacons on this arduous path.
