Chapter 14 Life Hangs by a Thread

After realizing what had happened, the old man in the black robe felt a sense of being tricked rising from the depths of his heart.

This brat, spouting nonsense, how dare he be so presumptuous? This is blasphemy against the gods.

Enraged, he unleashed a Shadow Arrow at Havent, but fortunately, Taren arrived just in time after clearing out the ghouls that had surrounded him.

The Shadow Bolt struck the knight's shield, producing a puff of black smoke.

"Form ranks! Defensive formation! Protect the young master! Await reinforcements!"

After giving the order, Taren, sword in his right hand and shield in his left, charged toward the old man in black robes.

However, it was clear that the old man in black robes did not take the charging knight commander seriously. He crossed his fingers a few times, and a dark green magic rune appeared.

Immediately afterwards, a dark green mirror appeared in front of the old man in black robes.

Three tall figures, clad in full black armor, emerged from the mirror. Seeing Taren charging towards them, they drew their two-handed swords and met him head-on.

The knight commander roared as he watched the three ghoul overlords approach, his body once again engulfed in fiery battle aura.

The old man in black robes glanced at the trapped knight commander, then turned and continued toward Havent, who was being protected by the white lion knight.

As the black-robed elder approached step by step, Haven swallowed nervously. Had his unreliable father been killed by the demonic dragon? That shouldn't be the case; he had been quite capable in previous battles!
By this time, more and more ghouls were surrounding them, and the continuous fireballs quickly depleted his magic power. The ensuing side effects made Havent feel like his brain was about to explode.

The white lion warriors who had formed a circle to protect Haven were also exhausted, with only five or six warriors left still fighting desperately.

With a loud shout, a rapid sound of horses' hooves approached from afar.

Three bright silver sword energies swept swiftly through the horde of ghouls, instantly cutting three gaps in the crowded mass of ghouls.

The White Lion cavalry, who had followed Earl Hylan out of the city, quickly formed a battle formation. The cavalry, clad in silver armor, used Earl Hylan as their spearhead, and their arrowhead formation plunged straight into the army of ghouls.

The old man in black robes looked at the white lion cavalry a thousand meters away, his withered cheeks twitched, and after giving Havent a fixed look, he retreated back into the horde of ghouls behind him.

The ghoul overlord, who was besieging Taren, stopped his attack and, as if receiving an order, turned and walked towards Havent.

As the ghoul overlord shifted its target, the spared knight commander coughed up a mouthful of blood, collapsing to his knees and only managing to stay upright with the support of his knight's sword.

Seeing the Corpse Overlord charging towards his young master, Taren roared and threw his longsword at the Corpse Overlord.

"Young Master! Run!!!"

However, Haven was already surrounded and had nowhere to run. He was surrounded by ghouls, and looking at the white lion, who was still hundreds of meters away, he smiled helplessly.

'Next time, I'll definitely bring a few big bombs! Damn! What a pity.'

The three ghoul overlords easily cut down the white lion warriors blocking their way. Looking at the ghouls standing in front of him with their two-handed swords raised high, Haven calmly closed his eyes.

She went back to her parents' home and found out her son was gone, right there on her own property.

The tall Earl of Hyland pulled his son into his arms and gently patted Haven's back.

"Stop filming, stop filming! I'm fine, but Taren was almost killed by three large ghouls. Go check on him!"

Looking around, they saw Taren being carried out by the White Lion cavalry who had come to their aid not far away.

Haven rushed over. Apart from being covered in blood and having several large, spurting gashes on his body, he seemed alright; at least he was still alive, which was better than the previous times.

Having confirmed that the loyal knight commander was alright, Haven breathed a sigh of relief.

"Old man, the leader of the Death Cult ran in that direction. Go after him quickly, killing him would be a great achievement!"

Earl Hylan checked that his son was alright, left fifty horses to protect his son during the retreat, and then mounted his horse and led the remaining two hundred men in pursuit in the direction Haven had indicated.

Unexpectedly, it really was this enormous creature speaking to him. After handing the medicine and bandages to the soldier standing guard nearby, Haven walked towards the dragon.

Upon closer inspection, it was discovered that the dragon that had been giving it such a headache was actually a red dragon. The dragon's entire body was examined.

Various sizes of wounds were interspersed. In the large wounds, dark red dragon flesh could be seen, but no blood was seeping out. In some places where there was no flesh, dark golden dragon bones could even be seen.

'Thank you so much for your help, child. If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have been able to return to Lord Eo's wing.'

Haven was surprised to see genuine gratitude in the red dragon's dim eyes, and quickly waved to the dragon.
