Hogwarts: This professor is too Muggle.

Chapter 39 Halloween Chapter Eve

Chapter 39 Halloween

October 10st, Halloween Eve.

Hogwarts Castle was dressed up in a Halloween theme. The torches on both sides of the corridor were covered with pumpkin lanterns. The house-elves began preparing for the dinner early in the morning, and the air was filled with a sweet and tempting pumpkin scent.

Halloween originated from Celtic mythology. The Celts believed that the souls of the dead would return to the world on the last day of October to find a replacement to take the life of. The living were afraid of ghosts and worried about being used as scapegoats, so they came up with many ways to deal with it.

"Some people extinguish fires and candles and hide in the darkness; some dress up as ghosts and demons, concealing their faces and scaring away ghosts; others choose to please ghosts by placing delicious food in front of their homes for them to enjoy, which is the origin of 'trick or treat'..."

In the morning, third-year students took Muggle Studies. Professor Lewinter used the geography chapter of the encyclopedia to explain how the natural environment affects the lifestyles of surrounding residents, how it affects the bodies of indigenous people, and how this has led to different cultural customs.

Unfortunately, wizards are not afraid of ghosts and monsters, so there is no custom of dressing up as ghosts to ask for candy, and students are not very interested in the origin of Halloween.

During lunch, Angelina from Gryffindor kept complaining to her friends about her skin color. Her ancestors became dark-skinned in order to adapt to the sun, but now she doesn't need to be exposed to the sun, so why can't she go back to having a white skin?

Spinnet was speechless.

The last class in the afternoon is for fifth grade.

Gryffindor prefect Percy arrived at the classroom early and sat in the middle front row.

Professor Lewynter was different from other professors. There was no obvious pattern in the selection of answers in the random questions. The probability of the front and back seats was the same. Moreover, it was more convenient for students to copy the blackboard when sitting in the front row. Ravenclaw students had more flexible thinking and were generally aware of this.

Just as Percy expected, when he arrived at the classroom, most of the Ravenclaw students had already arrived, generally gathered in the middle.

Percy also saw two Ravenclaw prefects, Penelope Clearwater and a boy.

I can't remember what it was called.

Percy sat down next to Penelope, the girl looked up and they smiled at each other.

Professor Lewinter stepped into the classroom half a minute before the bell rang.

As the temperature drops, Professor Lewynter's clothes become thicker. You can often see him wearing a mid-length coat in various colors with a sweater underneath. The colors are well-matched and there is an indescribable liveliness in the dull tones of autumn and winter. Some little witches have already started to record and learn these color combinations.

Students' impression of Muggles changed unconsciously.

Professor Lewynter's teaching style is quite different. Although the class seems to be moving quickly, he's actually not rushed, and even seems somewhat leisurely. "We had a periodic test last week, and the marked papers were distributed last night. You should have seen your mistakes. This class will review the papers."

Percy silently took out the test paper and scored dismally on the multiple-choice questions.

Melvin took out the test booklet, which already contained questions from four previous tests. "For question one, choose C for the correct answer. Raise your hand if you chose incorrectly."

The classroom suddenly became quiet, and everyone raised their hands. Percy was among them, his expression calm and frank, not feeling ashamed, because such scenes had been repeated over and over again in the past few weeks.

"Mr. Hilliard, please tell me why you chose C."

"..."

Come to think of it, his name was Robert Hilliard.

Percy's thoughts were a little off.

This novel approach, unique to Muggle Studies, allows students to explain incorrect questions instead of the professor, effectively enhancing their autonomy. To avoid embarrassment in front of the class, students who make mistakes actively ponder and ask questions until they fully understand the problem.

The students were a little resistant at first, but now they see this as a way to show off.

Two hours passed quickly.

With ten minutes left before the bell rang, Melvin glanced at his watch. He had just reached the last question, so he put down the test booklet. "That's all for this lesson. If there's anything you don't understand, don't just let it slide. Think about it repeatedly after class to make sure you fully grasp the relevant knowledge points. You need to understand that test scores aren't important; the goal is to identify and fill in the gaps in your knowledge. If you have any questions, discuss them with your classmates. If you can't find a solution, then come to me. I want to slack off." A burst of laughter immediately followed.

Melvin nodded. "Today is Halloween. Let's end get out of class early and go to the auditorium to enjoy dessert."

"Long live Professor Lewinter!"

Melvin watched them cheering for the end of get out of class, smiled, packed up his exercise book, and walked out quickly.

Before class, he received a letter from Wright asking him to meet at the Three Broomsticks.

……

On the fourth floor of the castle, the Charms classroom.

Gryffindor and Hufflepuff first years are learning the Levitation Charm.

Professor Flitwick spent the first half of the class explaining the theory of the Levitation Charm, including its origins, the evolution of the spell, the casting motions, and classic examples of spell casting errors. In the second half, he distributed feathers as teaching aids, allowing students to practice casting spells on their own.

The little wizards waved their wands around and around and recited the spell over and over again, but most of the students could only make the feathers tremble slightly, and only a few succeeded in making the feathers float.

Hermione was one of those very few.

Thanks to the candy Professor Lewyn gave her that day, Hermione's interactions with her roommates and classmates became much smoother, and she felt she had made friends.

As the get out of class was about to end, Hermione looked at her friends who were still practicing hard and couldn't help but correct them, "The spell is Wingardium Leviosa. Harry, emphasize the word 'Add' and draw out the pronunciation. Cast it more smoothly. Neville, just shake your wand and don't worry, you won't get your feathers blown off like Seamus did."

"..."

Harry was a little helpless and said nothing. He just practiced on his own, still chanting the spell in the original way.

Seamus, with dark cheeks, sighed, his eyes dim, feeling offended.

Only Neville nodded: "Thank you."

Ron held the wand, which was so broken that the animal hair at the core was exposed, and he became more and more annoyed.

"It's Yujia——"

"enough!"

Ron couldn't help but shout, looking at her wide eyes, he paused, and continued with a straight face: "It's been two months since school started, and every Charms class is like this. It's like a nightmare. Can't we practice on our own?"

Hermione was stunned for a moment: "I...I want to help."

"You're helping by keeping your mouth shut."

"I thought we were friends."

Hermione looked at the others somewhat panickedly, seeking some approval.

Harry felt guilty and didn't dare to look her in the eye. He didn't know what to say. He acknowledged Hermione as a friend, but he also hoped that Hermione would give him less advice in the future.

Neville opened his mouth and wanted to say something, but before he could say anything, the bell rang.

When the bell rang, Hermione grabbed her schoolbag and hurried out of the classroom.
