Chapter 275 An Ominous Attack
Chapter 275 An Ominous Attack
"Wang!"
The black dog lunged at them fiercely.
Ron shuddered and instinctively threw the paper bag beside him.
The thick brown paper bag, bulging and full, slammed into the black dog's head like a brick. The bag ripped open with a ripping sound, and all sorts of popsicles and candies rained down on it. Some of the candy wrappers were torn, and the thick, sweet syrup stuck to the dog's fur, making it all sticky.
Wolfhounds are known for their hard skulls and thick fur, with a head of bronze, a tail of iron, and a waist of tofu.
Sirius was slightly dazed by the sudden blow.
Based on the Weasley boy's instinctive counterattack, he judged that the boy's combat reaction was excellent. He did not freeze when suddenly attacked, but immediately used the objects at hand to block the attack. He then took out his wand. His movements were a little flustered, but they were all correct decisions in a wizarding duel.
This made him somewhat emotional; Hogwarts had strengthened its dueling education, and the young wizards these days were truly remarkable.
But this did not deter the black dog.
Sirius Black had no wand on him and had recovered some of his physical functions after resting. In a fair wizard duel, he probably wouldn't be able to beat a third-year student who had been trained in dueling in the ring. But this wasn't a dueling ring that emphasized etiquette, and they weren't fighting with spells in a rigid manner. It was close-quarters combat. How could a child possibly be a match for a wild beast?
The dog hairs on its back stood up.
"Woo..."
A deep growl came from its throat, and the wild instincts within the black dog's body were unleashed. Its ferocious baring of teeth alone was enough to make the young wizard tremble, and his wand shook incessantly.
With its hind legs slightly bent, it pushed off forcefully and pounced forward.
The black dog and Ron were only a dozen feet apart, and with one leap, the dog crossed half of the alleyway.
With towering walls behind him, Ron had nowhere to retreat or escape. In his haste to wave his wand, he was struck off course by a claw before he could even cast a spell.
A sharp pain shot through his wrist, and the wand immediately flew out of his hand, tumbling several times in the air before crashing into the wall and falling to the ground.
"Wang!"
Sirius Black instantly stood up and made another diving tackle.
If it were a real wild animal, it would probably bite directly at the carotid artery, causing massive bleeding in a short time, rendering the prey immobile and at its mercy.
But the black dog's body is that of a wizard, and his only prey is that damned rat. He can't bring himself to kill the child of his old comrade from the Order of the Phoenix.
So the copper-headed dog's head just bumped into Ron's head. The two heads collided with a dull, powerful crack, and Ron immediately swayed and fell to the ground, his eyes rolled back, and he lost consciousness.
"call……"
The black dog, panting heavily with its tongue lolling out, strode over to the lying Ron, panting and warily guarding his chest: "Woof!"
Come out, Wormtail!
Let's put an end to our feud.
There was no response from the spot where the mouse was kept in his chest; the only response was Ron's regularly rising and falling chest, his breathing even. He was probably going to have a good dream, but he would have a slight headache when he woke up.
"come out!"
Sirius Black was on high alert, his claws outstretched, gritting his teeth and letting out low growls. His gray eyes began to turn bloodshot, and his claws even scratched the stone pavement. He ignored the pain because of his hatred, accompanied by faint bloodshot eyes.
Ron lay soundly on the floor.
Sirius suddenly realized what was happening and lashed out with his claws, tearing at his clothes. With a ripping sound, Madam Malkin's robe was ripped to pieces; not only the chest area, but also the two pockets and wide sleeves were torn to shreds.
There was no sign of the bald rat.
The mouse didn't come to Hogsmeade with the young wizard today. Wormtail is currently hiding under a bed in the Gryffindor boys' dormitory, fast asleep just like its owner, probably having some sweet dreams.
"Huh...huh..."
Sirius, enraged, panted heavily as the black dog strode around Ron with agile steps.
He painstakingly planned this attack, spending hours explaining and gesturing until Crookshank could barely understand his plan. Finally, he chose the day of the weekend activities, leading Crookshank through the secret passage beneath the Whomping Willow to sneak into Hogsmeade, hoping it would distract Harry and the little witch...
The attack, which lasted for more than half a month, ultimately came to nothing.
He was truly unwilling to accept it.
The black dog stopped and saw the magic wand lying in the corner. A gloomy look flickered in its gray eyes.
With its keen sense of smell and hearing, the black dog quickly determined that there was no one in the surrounding alleys. Suddenly, it stood up, its fur shed, and it transformed into a lean and tall man.
He looked around, bent down to pick up the wand from the ground, and stroked the shaft: "Willow wood, unicorn hair core..."
[Repaired to its original condition]
A faint white light flashed and disappeared.
The brown paper bag, torn by a physical impact, and the candies scattered on the ground, were damaged in just a few minutes. With a gentle sweep of the repair spell, the brown paper bag quickly healed, and the candies bounced back into the bag, filling it up bulging again.
As if time had reversed, the torn robes were quickly stitched together.
Sirius looked down at his wand, a look of nostalgia flashing in his eyes. It had been thirteen years since he last held a wand and cast a spell.
Two minutes later, the black dog slowly walked out of the alley.
……
After circling around for a while, Krokshan stopped in front of the Wenrenju Quill Pen Stationery Store, sitting there obediently with its fluffy tail wrapped around its four paws, waiting quietly.
Picking up the obedient, waiting ginger cat, Hermione was still a little confused, unsure of where to begin asking.
How exactly did Crookshanks end up in Hogsmeade?
Why did I bring myself to the Literati Residence?
Did you have some purpose in running around the alley just now?
The big cat nestled in Hermione's arms wagged its tail, glanced up at the corner, and seemed to think that the time was almost up. It stopped leading Harry and Hermione in circles and couldn't answer their questioning looks.
They browsed the stationery store twice, their paper bags were stuffed fuller, and their pocket money was almost gone, making Hermione feel a little guilty.
The two returned along the alleyway.
“Turn right ahead, Ron is waiting for us there…” Harry’s breath made his glasses a little blurry as he spoke. He raised his hand to wipe them, but suddenly noticed that Hermione beside him had stopped.
Hermione stood there, stunned, as if witnessing something unbelievable, her expression a mixture of bewilderment and fear. Harry followed her gaze and saw the paper bag slip off, the candy scattered on the floor.
Ron was lying straight on the ground, his limbs outstretched. Just five minutes ago, his body had been jumping around chattering away, eating the most magical candies by himself, even stuffing blood gummies and toad mints into his mouth. But now he was not moving at all.
His red hair was somewhat disheveled, his eyes were tightly closed, and his face was expressionless.
Harry stopped and stared at him, the sound of his own heart pounding clearly audible.
Hermione suddenly let out a terrified scream.
The two rushed over immediately. One reached out to feel the breathing, while the other opened his eyes to observe the changes in the pupils. They then looked at each other and breathed a sigh of relief.
Crookshank came closer and sniffed his chest. A very human-like disappointment flashed across his face, and his tail, which had been wagging upright, went down.
Its tail immediately stood up again, startled by the sudden roar from the adult wizard at the end of the alley.
"Harry, what are you doing here?" a familiar voice called out.
Just as Harry and Hermione turned their heads, two adult wizards approached. One was wearing a black robe, and the other was wrapped in a second-hand shop's autumn/winter coat. They seemed to have just finished their work and were passing by.
"Professor Snape... Professor Lupin?"
Harry stared wide-eyed as the two approached, bewildered as they stood together. "You two..."
Lupin and Snape were shopping for some of the raw materials for the wolfsbane potion when they were spotted by students on the way. Slightly nervous, Lupin looked at Harry's inquiring gaze and carefully chose his words: "Let's handle some together—"
"What happened to Mr. Weasley?" Snape suddenly interrupted, frowning as he looked at Ron lying on the ground. "Did you eat too much at Honeydukes and get syrup in your eyes, causing you to bump into the wall because you couldn't see where you were going?"
“It’s not about Honeydukes candies, it’s an attack. Ron was attacked. Hermione and I were gone for a few minutes, and when we came back we found him lying on the ground,” Harry explained quickly and concisely, mainly addressing Lupin.
"The attack caused him to fall into a coma?"
Lupin immediately knelt down to check on Ron. There were no obvious wounds on his body. He rolled up his sleeves and saw a bruise on his right wrist and a red swelling on his forehead, but otherwise nothing serious.
"There were no obvious signs of a fight, which means Mr. Weasley barely retaliated. His wand was in his pocket, and the bag of candy he had just bought was completely unharmed..."
Snape looked around the scene, his eyes gleaming and a mocking smile playing on his lips. "Are you sure your idiot roommate didn't just run into the wall and pass out?"
“You!” Harry glared at him.
“Severus, I don’t believe anyone would knock themselves unconscious and get bruises on their wrists from eating too much candy.”
Lupin said calmly, picked up his wand, tapped it on Ron's head, and cast a healing spell.
Ron's eyelids fluttered, and he woke up, immediately gasping for breath and clutching his forehead, crying out, "Ouch... my head hurts so much, and my chest feels a bit tight! Am I going to die?"
When I raised my hand, I didn't notice the injury on my wrist, which aggravated the bruised muscles, making the pain even worse. I hissed and gasped for breath.
……
A broom is painted on the glaze of a white porcelain cup, which contains butter beer with white foam. Next to it, on a metal plate, are fish and chips sprinkled with ketchup.
In the Three Broomsticks Tavern, on the third floor, in the waiting room, the professors sat on long sofas on either side of a square table, while three young wizards sat in the main seat at the front.
Enjoying a free lunch on the third floor, which is not open to the public by the Three Brooms, is a rare and adventurous experience that ordinary students would be proud of. However, being watched by the school's four deans, two required course professors, and a retired professor of magical creatures, one sits in the main seat like a criminal awaiting judgment in a courtroom.
Harry, Ron, and Hermione all felt that the lunch was not very good, tasteless, and they were all stiff and awkward in their movements.
“It was probably an attack by a canine,” retired Kettleburn chuckled. “There are bruises on his wrists from being hit by a dog’s paws, redness and swelling on his head from being bumped by a dog’s head, and some shallow claw marks on his chest, but none of them are serious.”
Ron nodded and recounted what had happened not long ago: "After Harry and the others left, I found a step to sit on, intending to wait for them to return, when that black dog suddenly lunged at me..."
For a moment, only his voice recounting the attack could be heard in the waiting room.
Hermione picked up the white porcelain cup, took a sip, and looked around.
The Three Brooms is a very conspicuous three-story building on Hogsmeade Street, not far from the Central Post Office.
I had heard two years ago that the Three Brooms' original business was barely surviving. Ms. Rosmerta had no husband and supported the business alone until Professor Levent was invited to teach there. With the professor's help, the tavern's business flourished and expanded.
This room is on the third floor. The corridor outside is connected, with rooms of various sizes on both sides. There is a round hall for watching movies, a meeting room for business negotiations, and a guest room suitable for small gatherings. The room facilities are very complete, and house-elves are available to provide services at any time.
The bottom two floors housed a pub and a cinema, while the top floor was Mrs. Rosmerta's way of thanking the professor.
Seemingly noticing the little witch's gaze, Melvin turned around and gave a gentle smile.
"...I thought it was just my head and hands, but I didn't expect it to scratch my chest." Ron patted his chest to express his relief. "My clothes weren't even torn, and I don't know how it scratched me. Luckily, I didn't bring Scabbers to Hogsmeade, or it would have been in trouble."
"Banban?"
"It's my pet mouse. It's been in our family for over ten years. It used to be Percy's pet, but after he became a prefect, he was put in my care."
Ron was still a little scared. "Banban is old and not in good health. It's also easy for other cats and dogs to target it, so I don't dare to let it go out anymore."
"A mouse that has lived for more than ten years?" Kettleburn seemed very interested in this. The two chatted for a few more minutes and learned that it was just an ordinary mouse with no special bloodline or strange magic. It was caught while catching goblins in the garden and had lived for more than ten years. Kettleburn couldn't help but marvel at it.
"What distinctive features did the black dog that attacked you have, or how was it different from an ordinary hunting dog?"
"No..." Ron scratched his head. "It's just an ordinary black dog, skinny and dirty. I don't know why it came to me."
“It didn’t cause any serious injury, and it didn’t take your wand, so it shouldn’t be an attack launched by a wizard controlling a black dog.” Professor Flitwick rested his chin on his hand, thinking and analyzing. “It didn’t take your candy, and it didn’t eat your flesh, so it’s not a mad beast either.”
"Why is that?" Sprout asked.
"A black dog did appear in Harry's Divination teacup, but that was Harry's prophecy. Why is it coming to me?"
Professor McGonagall and the others frowned and pondered, but they couldn't come up with an answer. They didn't even have the slightest clue. They could only conclude that the black dog was just playing with them, or that the Dementors had influenced the stray dog's personality.
Lu Ping, sitting at the end of the sofa, listened to their analysis with his head down, a fleeting glint in his eyes, almost imperceptible.
But Snape caught the momentary unease in his expression, his eyes narrowing slightly.
