Chapter 214 Destiny
Just as the old monk finished speaking...

In an instant.

Abrupt changes also began to occur in the surrounding area.

The white dust scattered among the glittering jewels began to gather on its own, and then, like grains of sand forming a tower, it transformed into one indistinct human figure after another.

Then, a beam of Buddha's light shone down.

Just like the wax figures, all sorts of lifelike human faces appeared.

Peddlers, peasants, officials, scholars, and wealthy landowners—Zhou You even witnessed an elderly musician holding a huqin (a two-stringed bowed instrument).

Countless faces appeared before my eyes, countless faces full of smiles.

It felt as if they were eagerly anticipating the arrival of newcomers.

Although the wax figures were merely solidified and did not move an inch, Zhou You's eyebrows were still deeply furrowed.

It wasn't just the chilling feeling of being watched by so many eyes at the same time, but more importantly...
These things are all alive.

Within each wax figure resides a soul twisted into a monster!
Zhou You's face instantly turned extremely ugly.

—Damn, this seems like a big problem!
The old monk, however, paid no attention to any of this and continued to speak calmly.

"...If it weren't for my anger back then, how could I have fought to the death with Tantric Buddhism? If I hadn't disregarded everyone's objections and insisted on my own way, how could Liaochen have betrayed me? All the results are my causes, which is why I ended up with this consequence."

Zhengde was dumbfounded. The words shocked him so much that he could no longer notice the strange changes around him.

"Master, but everything you've done is to save people!"

The old monk smiled and shook his head.

“Zhengde, you must remember this: if you cannot save everyone, it is the same as not saving anyone at all.”

He sat upright on the lotus platform, gazing at the gradually distorted city, and sighed softly in a calm and unhurried tone.

"—After realizing this, I began to preach to the Tantric practitioners around me. Of course, at first I only received punches and scorn, but fortunately, I still had a tongue and plenty of time. Under my persuasion, many Tantric practitioners abandoned their original practices and began to cultivate the right path—in fact, with their help, most of my limbs were recovered, and I regained my mobility."

Zhengde couldn't help but interject again.

"Master, since you've already granted my release, why bother?"

The old monk sighed softly.

"It's simple, because I've realized that even with this, I still can't save everyone."

"The conflict between Zen and Tantra is just one point. Looking further ahead, the conflicts are about poverty and wealth, civilization and barbarity, even the gods high above in the sky and the bookworms wallowing in the mud."

Master Ke

"—Zhengde, listen to me. After I attained enlightenment, when I looked ahead, all I saw was endless killing and when I looked back, all I saw was the suffering of the world. So, I want to erase all injustice and conflict. I want to redeem everyone in this world."

The old monk sighed and gave his final conclusion.

"But the problem is that I can't achieve this vision by myself alone. I need to borrow the power of others, and this Maitreya Buddha is the best opportunity."

Having said that, the old monk ignored Zhengde and gently waved his hand.

—Then, in that calm voice, he spoke slowly.

"At this point, the Longhua Dharma Assembly has begun. Maitreya Bodhisattva will attain perfect enlightenment under the Naga tree, striking the great Dharma drum and turning the great Dharma wheel. All who hear and experience this will be able to ascend to the Tusita Heaven. From then on, there will be no more sorrow or pain, and all sentient beings will be equal and can all attain Buddhahood!"

As soon as those words were spoken, the wall behind the old monk suddenly collapsed, revealing the towering tree to everyone.

But it wasn't a tree trunk.

The area that was originally tree bark was now covered with ecstatic human faces, densely packed, as if they were endless.

And all those faces merged into an even larger face.

—It is also the face of the Buddha that I saw in my dreams.

in the next moment.

A pair of jet-black eyes opened.

The entire hall froze in that instant; the air, the human body, and even the ethereal concept of time seemed to be sucked into those eyes and then completely devoured.

—Maitreya Bodhisattva has descended to earth!

Zhengde was still in a daze when suddenly a foot stretched out from the side and kicked him directly in the leg.

"Your master has clearly gone mad, what are you still spacing out for!"

At this moment, Zhengde raised his head and saw that all the wax figures around him had begun to take steps, chanting scriptures, and slowly walking towards them.

"After the Buddha's passing, if any of the monks, nuns, laymen, laywomen, gods, dragons, yakshas, gandharvas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, mahoragas, and other members of the assembly hear the name of Maitreya Bodhisattva Mahasattva, and upon hearing it rejoices and respectfully bows in worship, that person will be reborn in the Pure Land in the blink of an eye after death, just as before; those who merely hear the name of Maitreya will not fall into dark places, borderlands, places of wrong views, or places of evil conduct after death, but will always be born with right views and a harmonious family, and will not slander the Three Jewels."

Every sound entered my ears and shook my soul.

And that number is already everywhere!

Having just broken through the barrier and kicked Zhengde awake, Zhou You raised his sword and turned to Cai Yuankui.

"Hey Lao Cai, it looks like our plan is ruined. What should we do now?"

Cai Yuankui had just broken through the barrier when he saw the man stare at the enormous head in disbelief for a long time before stomping his foot and saying angrily.

"What else can we do? The whole plan is ruined. The Tantric masters we were supposed to deal with are all dead, and now we've got an even bigger one. Now we only have one way out: run away first, and then we can make further plans!"

After saying that, Cai Yuankui neatly threw Zhengde onto his body and rushed out before the encirclement could be completed.

Zhou You followed closely behind—but before leaving, he suddenly raised his head and glanced at the old monk.

This guy has been talking for so long, but the only time he actually made a move was when he unleashed the golden light to trap them. As for the rest of the time, he didn't even touch the Buddha light beside him, which resembled a raging flame, let alone borrow Maitreya's power.

Is it that they can't, or that they don't want to?

So what exactly does this guy want to do?
Unfortunately, before he could think it through, the wax figures around him surged toward him like a tidal wave.

Seeing this, Zhou You could only turn his head away, unleash a burst of murderous aura, and then follow Cai Yuankui's footsteps, charging outwards.

After those figures completely disappeared, the old monk clasped his hands together and sighed softly.

"Now that the dice have been rolled, whether it is good or evil, success or failure, right or wrong, we might as well leave it to the mysterious cause and effect to decide."

"This is destiny; it's just a matter of whether you can change it."

"The man of destiny."
