Chapter 1: Attempting to Transmigrate but Ending Up Transmigrating Backwards
At one in the morning, a heavy truck sped along the highway in the darkness. Su Ming sat in the passenger seat, drowsily playing with his phone, the screen gleaming faintly in the dim light of the truck.
The driver sped up to overtake. Su Ming glanced up and saw that it was a large trailer truck. The trailer was loaded with two rows of small cars, like a mobile metal castle, appearing particularly massive in the night. He squinted, trying to make out the models, but the dim light only allowed him to make out their vague outlines.
"Want to buy one?" the driver joked with a smile, his voice tinged with a hint of teasing.
"The cheap ones are okay, but if it's the top-of-the-line kind, I wouldn't even have enough to cover the cost of selling them," Su Ming replied. He was just an employee at a machinery factory, having only worked there for a few years. He was assigned to accompany them on this trip, as the truck was transporting used equipment that the factory had acquired.
When the truck had passed the trailer by half a body length, a strange blue light suddenly appeared in Su Ming's eyes. He looked up and saw a pitch-black sphere in the middle of the lane in the distance, with wisps of golden light moving across it.
"What's that, a pixelated taillight?" the driver asked疑惑地, instinctively releasing the accelerator. The tow truck to the right rear also noticed the anomaly ahead and began to slow down.
“It doesn’t look like it.” Su Ming had excellent eyesight. He saw that the black sphere was floating in mid-air, as if it had bitten off a piece of the night, unlike any other light fixture.
Suddenly, the black sphere expanded violently, and the points of light on its surface rapidly converged to the edge, its brightness increasing abruptly. Accompanied by fine, lightning-like flashes, a figure leaped out of the sphere and landed on the driveway.
"Holy crap!" the driver yelled in terror, slamming on the brakes. The tires screeched violently against the ground, the truck jolted violently, and Su Ming's body was thrown forward by the inertia. He managed to steady himself by gripping the truck bed with both hands.
The trailer truck to the right rear also braked suddenly, but the driver was clearly panicked and swerved in his panic. The trailer truck instantly lost its balance, overturned, and made a screeching metallic scraping sound. Two cars were thrown off the trailer, rolled past the truck with sparks flying, and headed straight for the figure in front.
Illuminated by the high beams, the figure waved his hand lightly, and the two cars mysteriously swerved around him, crashing directly into the black sphere behind him. After a blinding flash, the cars vanished without a trace.
"What the hell is this thing?!" Su Ming's heart suddenly raced, and fear washed over him like a tidal wave. He even envied the tow truck driver—although the truck had overturned, at least it had stopped!
As the distance closed, the figure's movements became increasingly clear. He swiftly drew a series of symbols in the air, creating eerie black marks that spread out in a whoosh. Immediately afterward, a large amount of white matter converged from all directions.
"Bones?" Su Ming could hardly believe what he was seeing.
They were indeed bones. They rapidly coalesced in the darkness, forming dozens of sharp bone fangs, which then pierced the ground around the figure, quickly building a bone prison.
Everything happened in just a few seconds. The driver was stunned, watching helplessly as the truck crashed into the bone cage. The two men were instantly engulfed by the massive tremor; the truck's chassis felt like it had struck a solid rock wall. The front of the over fifty-ton truck came to a sudden stop, a loud crash echoed from the cargo box, and the entire vehicle creaked, tilted, and then landed heavily on the ground!
boom!
The airbag deployed, and Su Ming was shoved into it by the tremendous impact, only to be pulled back by the seatbelt. His ears were ringing, and his vision was blurry.
A brief silence fell, broken only by the cold wind blowing in through the shattered windshield, making Su Ming shiver. He moved his neck to make sure he wasn't seriously injured, then cautiously peeked out.
Ahead, the pitch-black sphere still hovered, as deep as a bottomless abyss, devouring even the light. Su Ming swallowed hard, his gaze shifting downwards to see the mysterious figure kneeling before the truck, right hand gripping a bone staff, panting heavily. The bone cage beside him was mostly broken, the remaining parts riddled with cracks.
"Brother, run!" came the driver's voice from the side. He had already unbuckled his seatbelt and was frantically pushing open the car door.
Su Ming also hurriedly unbuckled his seatbelt, but the car door on his side couldn't be opened, so he quickly switched to the driver's side.
The driver had already kicked open the car door and jumped out. Su Ming was about to follow when a screeching sound of tires screeching against the ground came from behind him. He lost his balance and fell back into his seat. The open car door slammed shut with a loud bang, and a huge force pushed against his back.
"Damn it!" Su Ming cursed inwardly. He immediately understood what had happened—the car behind hadn't been able to brake in time and had crashed directly into the rear of the truck!
Su Ming was forced to sit down and watched helplessly as he and the car were forcibly pushed forward, crushing the broken bone prison and the figure, and plunging straight into the black sphere.
A dazzling serpentine light erupted instantly, and Su Ming instinctively raised his hand to shield his eyes. Time, however, seemed to freeze afterward, and everything around him slowed down considerably. The fingertips that Su Ming touched the light barrier became ethereal and transparent, spreading throughout his body in a way that appeared slow but was actually fast.
The next moment, the flow of time resumed, and Su Ming's vision blurred as he swiftly passed through the light curtain.
The noise subsided, the cacophony shut out from the world behind. Before them lay a vast, openwork hall, its walls and ceiling constructed of white, bone-like material, both eerie and ancient. In the rearview mirror, the remaining part of the truck slowly emerged from the darkness, accompanied by crackling bolts of electricity.
Astonishment filled Su Ming's heart. Wormhole? Superpower? High-tech experiment? Countless thoughts raced through his mind like galloping horses.
boom!
The truck crashed to the ground, instantly extinguishing the lights in the hall. The black hole behind them flickered briefly before collapsing and disappearing, plunging the surroundings into complete darkness.
A chill ran down Su Ming's spine, and he forced himself to calm down. He pulled a wrench and flashlight from under the seat and climbed out through the broken driver's side window.
Su Ming carefully shone his flashlight around, and sure enough, what he had just seen was not an illusion; he was indeed in a quaint, circular hall. He then shone the flashlight down and discovered that the ground was also composed of bone, uneven and gleaming with a warm, jade-like luster under the light.
Upon closer inspection after removing the flashlight, fine specks of fluorescence were visible within the bone, something that seemed completely out of place on Earth.
"It really happened!" Su Ming lamented inwardly, dispelling the last glimmer of hope in his heart.
The only hope of returning now was that wormhole. Su Ming looked at the back of the car, despair creeping across his face. In the center of the hall, only shattered crystals and mysterious symbols carved into the ground remained.
