Devil's Bible

Chapter 498 Confusion

Everything seemed perfectly normal, yet something was amiss, which gave Nems a vague sense of unease.

He went to the back of the church, skillfully took out resin lamp oil from the cupboard, and lit it.

The night on earth is extremely dangerous; all sorts of wild beasts seem capable of killing you at will.

He was, after all, just a paladin with some skill who lived deep in the mountains and in a remote church.

The moment this self-awareness arose, Nemus felt a strong sense of unease.

This is not a problem with memory.

Nemus examined his memories and found himself a paladin after transmigrating, then sacrificed as a prayer angel. He used his special talent to help the abyss and subsequently became a demon of a different kind.

Then comes the struggle, which involves developing an identity clone, becoming a demon lord, and then exploring the land.

“No problem, everything is normal.” Nemus stopped recalling. His memory was fine; he was just an ordinary paladin living in a church in a remote area.

Then, looking at the oil lamp, he planned how to survive in this remote church.

“The church has been out of contact for a long time,” Nems thought.

This church was originally built by an elderly pastor who lived on the mountainside and used it to monitor any unusual occurrences in the mountains.

However, as the nights became more dangerous, people became unwilling to live near the mountains and began to move towards the big cities, resulting in several large and small migrations.

The place, devoid of human habitation, quickly became barren, and abundant vegetation grew.

It quickly became like a wilderness or forest.

However, the church still did not want to give up the church, so it sent him over.

It's a pity that the old pastor passed away soon after.

He couldn't contact the church through the lens of faith, and the letters he sent by carrier pigeon or similar means never received a response, as if the church had forgotten about him.

Perhaps this peculiar change is the source of my unease.

Naim thought to himself.

Then Nemes went to the other side of the church, opened the dusty door, and saw that there were many books inside.

"Knowledge is very important." The thought flashed through Nems' mind.

The spider that was using its silk to stick the pages of the book to its sides saw Nemus come in and made a few soft 'squeaks' to signal Nemus to be quiet when he entered.

Nemes nodded, picked up a dusty book, gently opened it, and began to read.

"Is there something wrong with the sun? Why is it sunset when the sun sets in the west?"

"I remember it came out from the west and then landed in the east..."

"There's something wrong with the sun. There's definitely something wrong with the sun."

Nems frowned as he looked at the contents, sensing something eerie.

The entire book is filled with various 'problems'.

First, they questioned whether there was something wrong with the sun, then they questioned whether there was something wrong with the sky, then they questioned all sorts of things in daily life, and finally they questioned whether there was something wrong with the world.

But after questioning the world's problems, the book concludes with the statement: "The sun definitely has a problem."

Such words sent chills down Nems' spine.

It's as if everything is wrong, even the cause-and-effect relationship is wrong. Under this confusion, various phenomena that seem normal are actually wrong.

It was at this moment that the spider, which was about the size of a human, came to Nemus's side and pointed at the book in Nemus's hand.

Nemus instantly understood that the other party wanted to exchange books, so he gave the book he was holding to the spider. Then he picked up the book that the spider had been reading.

This book is completely different.

This is a book that introduces the local customs and culture.

The book provides a detailed account of the region's general topography and the local culture that developed based on it. In addition, the book expresses gratitude to the local church.

The governance of the church is considered very important.

This praise made Nems smile; it was all thanks to him.

Then he couldn't help but look outside the church.

He looked at the dark sky, at the moon, at everything outside, and a sense of fear and despair gradually welled up in his heart. Over the years, he had always felt that once night fell, something unsettling would lurk in the darkness.

This fear of the night wasn't unique to him; the retired pastor had experienced it as well.

Every night, he would cry and lament the injustice of the world.

Furthermore, he had even vaguely heard some argument before that the reason why the nights were not peaceful was because the animals also felt this unease.

So at night, all the nocturnal animals became restless.

Recalling this scene, Nemus suddenly spoke up: "Is this what you wanted to show me?"

The spider, which was turning the pages of the book, paused for a moment, and then fell silent again.

Nems didn't ask any further questions; his memories returned, and he continued with his life.

When the sun rose the next day, all the problems seemed to be solved.

The world has returned to normal.

As I walked out of the church and looked back at the sign on the top of the church, I found that the sign had long since melted away, and I could no longer make out what kind of church it was.

Nems narrowed his eyes slightly, as if he was thinking about something, and then resumed his patrol of the mountain.

Along the stream, the large tree still drooped its branches to help Nemus cross the stream.

The fish with its body arched was still fishing.

A vibrant scene of life and everything thriving unfolds before your eyes.

After surveying the area, Nemes found it to be truly peaceful.

After watching the calamity creatures kill each other and tear each other apart, Nemus sighed.

"How peaceful."

“It’s time to go home.” Nemus stood up, a sword of energy appearing in his hand. The sword energy burst forth, killing several calamity creatures.

A large amount of dark purple blood poured out, completely covering the stream, and countless fish and shrimp died instantly.

After the surrounding trees and vegetation were stained with this blood, they quickly twisted and changed. One of the trees even raised its own roots and ran all the way to the place where the calamity creature died, knocking away another tree that had also been uprooted by a branch.

After choosing the best location, it decisively took root and occupied all the flesh and blood of the surrounding calamity creatures.

Seeing this, Nemus sheathed his sword, paused briefly, and then continued walking along the stream.

The arched-backed fish was still fishing, even though the river was full of dark red blood and dead fish and shrimp.

The tree was also letting go of its own branches, even though the other side of it was already twisting and turning wildly like a monster, its roots spreading to snatch the flesh and blood of the calamity creature.

Nemus then returned to the abandoned church. (End of Chapter)
