Chapter 122 The Gap in Life

Chapter 122 The Gap in Life (Twenty-Three, Seeking First Subscription)

After searching all morning, Gabriel, who had only managed to capture some users of demonic power, frowned.

It was just a mission to investigate a small religious group, yet they had already been working on it for two days without managing to obtain any crucial intelligence.

Al stood by, feeling it was his duty to save Phos.

It was I who enlightened Phos, informing him of the importance of power. It was also I who was focused on finding breathing techniques and meditation methods, which led Phos to step into the realm of cults.

“However, Mr. Gabriel, I don’t think you should cooperate with the Rope Gang.” After a slight hesitation, Al said to Gabriel.

They hadn't found anything last night, but today they saw Gabriel and his men directing the Rope Gang in their search. Al felt a sense of blasphemy about this, and although he knew he shouldn't have, he still spoke out.

This made Gabriel, who was already irritated, frown, because this statement was closer to an accusation.

"The Rope Gang is an evil force that parasitizes dockworkers; they even arrested me..."

“Do you even have the right to speak here?” Brent grabbed Al, his triangular eyes now filled with malice. “We’re not cooperating; we’re just driving them to find people for us!”

“Kid, don’t think that just because you gave us directions last night and Gabriel agreed to let you join the search, you can just say whatever you want.”

“Your own situation isn’t completely over yet!” Brent was referring to Al’s previous departure with Booker.

Although Al himself said that he chose to follow them in order to save his friend, without any actual evidence, the truth about Al can be fabricated at will.

"Alright, Brent, don't be so irritable. This kid is just trying to be kind," Galen said, trying to calm him down, but his eyes held only a cold smile.

A brat born into nobility, who has fallen to this state, actually dares to criticize their actions.

Even now, can't she let go of her pride?
Galen glanced at Gabriel, who was also suppressing his anger not far away, and was about to add fuel to the fire when he noticed that Gabriel's face had turned particularly ugly.

Galen immediately followed Gabriel's gaze and saw a person standing on an open space not far away.

The man's left hand was wrapped in bandages, and his face showed malice toward Gabriel and his group.

"That figure... Booker, who escaped from us last night?" Galen's anger flared instantly. A lowly bastard from the slums, relying on temporarily acquired demonic power, dared to appear before them again and issue such provocation!
The anger in my heart almost became tangible, and then it suddenly burst forth.

"Don't run!" Gabriel was even faster than Gallon.

He darted out in an instant, his hand already on the hilt of the sword.

However, the moment he stepped out of the crowd, Gabriel sensed an unprecedented danger.

Instinctively, Gabriel took a deep breath, and all the body's energy levels were immediately activated.

He had realized that this was a trap set for him.

Gabriel then turned his head slightly and looked to the other side.

There, a boy was crouching down, looking at him, his right arm outstretched, his left hand supporting his right wrist.

The moment he appeared, a groove opened above the wrist guard on the opponent's right arm, and dozens of small black dots shot out.

Those tiny black dots were incredibly fast, covering the distance in an instant and striking him. Pain shot through his limbs and bones, and in just a moment, more than a dozen bloody holes appeared in his body.

From Brent and Galen's perspective, Gabriel rushed out and was immediately attacked by something black. He was thrown to the other side, bleeding profusely, his fate unknown.

"Alert!" Brent immediately drew his sword and stared at the area where Booker and Fass were.

“Al.” Just then, Phos stepped out from the side, looking at Al standing with Brent with a complicated expression.

"Phas?!" Al was stunned when he saw Phas walk out from the side, and then quickly said, "How could you attack the Holy Knight?! Give up resisting now, you can still live!"

“I ask you, why did you betray us?” Fas raised his hand and pointed at Al, completely ignoring Al’s words urging him to surrender.

"I'm saving you!!" Al exclaimed excitedly upon hearing the word "betrayal," even taking a step forward. "In this world, joining the church is the only right path. You've chosen the evil path, and death is the only outcome."

“But my parents, my younger brother and sister were killed because of your betrayal,” Fas said, pointing at Gabriel, who lay on the ground, lifeless. The hatred in his eyes had not diminished in the slightest.

He now has a basic understanding of what happened. Gabriel has never looked down on people like them from the bottom of society and has no scruples when he attacks, which is why his family has been affected.

Whether or not his family was rescued, it did not affect his hatred for people like Gabriel.

"He's a member of the church too, isn't he also doomed now?"

"Fos!" Al called out Fos's name in a daze, not knowing why his good intentions had been so betrayed.

"How did your family get into trouble? They were captured by the Rope Gang. I'm pleading with the Holy Knight..." Al, having roughly realized what Phos was talking about, immediately began to stammer an explanation.

"So that's how it is. You seem to know everything, but in reality, you know nothing." At this moment, Phos truly saw Al for who he was.

Al was just a 'noble gentleman' from beginning to end.

He belittled, or rather idealized, all suffering.

The world he sees is completely different from the world that Phos sees.

Even when he suffered hardship and fell into the mud, he still did not become one with the soil; that barrier remained.

He viewed the world in a naive and idealistic way, believing that everyone could have better choices.

Joining a church can indeed lead to upward social mobility; who doesn't understand that?
But Phos knew perfectly well that he had no chance.

Al, however, did not understand this, or rather, he instinctively disregarded it.

Of course, his status also contributed to his disregard for this point to some extent. For example, he had made a meritorious report last night, and he could have left as long as he distanced himself from the matter.

He volunteered to join the search, which is not usually the case.

He was valued and granted permission because of his noble birth and status.

Noble status cannot be directly converted into wealth when one is down on one's luck, but when opportunity knocks, it becomes an indispensable credential that others can only dream of.
