Chapter 203 Young Master Malfoy
Chapter 203 Young Master Malfoy
Under the influence of magic, a plume of azure smoke rose from the crucible.
After the smoke dissipated, the pot was more than half full of blue liquid.
"It seems there's a lot more than we expected. Let's test the effectiveness of this potion first."
Severus ignored the ghost Snape inside his body. He continued talking to himself, then picked up a piece of parchment from his desk, tapped it with his wand, and used Transfiguration to transform it into a teacup with an unstable shape.
Then Severus used a dropper to take some medicine and dripped it onto a teacup.
From the outside, the teacup itself did not appear to change shape at all, but whether the potion was truly effective still needed to be determined by the incantation.
Severus picked up his wand again, tapped it against the teacup, and used a common transfiguration technique to break the spell.
However, the undoing had no effect on the teacup itself. The real potion had fixed the magic attached to it, and the characteristic of undoing a Transfiguration Curse is that it removes the magic from the object being transformed.
The failure of the antidote basically proves that Severus' potion was successfully brewed!
But clearly, the potion itself had already piqued Severus's interest.
If its function can completely define the magic of deformable objects, then under the effect of this potion, wouldn't it mean that it can break the Gamp Transformation Law and cause the deformable objects, whose essence remains the same after transformation, to undergo the most fundamental change?
However, after examining the teacup in his hand for a while and using a series of special anti-spells such as [Curse Stop] on it, Severus quickly discovered that the teacup, even after being affected by the real potion, was still not strong enough to violate the Gamp Transformation Law.
The constant magic in the teacup is not lasting, because the transfiguration magic on it was given by Severus, rather than existing on its own. This means that the constant magic is like water without a source, unable to be replenished, and will eventually be exhausted, turning the teacup back into parchment.
The real potion's greatest effect on the shapeshifter is that it helps it resist the effects of the spell being broken.
However, this resistance was not complete. Severus could also sense that if he used a more powerful dispelling spell on the teacup in his hand, or if he continued to cast spells, the polymorph spell on the cup would still be dispelled.
After studying the brewed potion for a while, Severus found a large potion bottle, filled it halfway with the real potion from the crucible, and then poured the remaining half into smaller potion bottles before going to bed.
After that night, Harry never had a similar dream again.
It was as if that dream was just an ordinary nightmare, without any warning or indication.
The day after sending the letter to Nico for help, Severus and his companions received a reply. In the letter, Nico said that he would first go to the site where Severus had found the silver whistle and would send a message to Severus if he entered the forest.
After receiving the letter, Severus and Lupin stopped studying the Silver Whistle and instead used the time to focus on giving Harry and Draco some magical instruction.
"Why does Dudley get a wand?!" Delaware expressed his dissatisfaction countless times. He stared at Harry's wand as if he were looking at the Seeker's broomstick, full of envy.
Lupin patiently explained to Draco.
"Because his guardian has agreed, Severus is temporarily his guardian. As long as Severus agrees, Dudley can have the wand for a short period of time."
Draco started shouting.
"You can also write to my mom and dad, and they'll definitely agree to buy me a magic wand!"
Lupin simply shrugged.
"They would need to step in to buy it for you, which is impossible right now."
Draco glanced at Harry, who was learning Transfiguration from Severus, then turned his gaze back to Lupin, who crossed his arms.
"Without a wand, what can you teach me?"
"Wands are not tools that wizards have always used throughout history. Although modern wizards can hardly live without them, we can still temporarily set them aside in certain disciplines."
As Lupin spoke, he also raised his wand.
"Furthermore, even if you don't have your own wand, I might lend you mine for certain necessary steps that require a wand."
His second sentence finally brought a light to Draco's eyes, who had been wearing a sour expression the whole time!
Although Lupin's life had been impoverished, he had always kept his wand in excellent condition. Even though it didn't have a fancy and exquisite wand handle like Lucius's, it was still very attractive.
"Will your wand be suitable for me?" Even though he was pleasantly surprised, Draco still complained with a hint of doubt.
“10 1/4 inches, cypress, unicorn hair.” Lupin waved his wand, leaving a trail of silver light in the air. “Its compatibility is fairly general, only its performance in dark magic is slightly weaker.”
"So what are you going to teach me first? The Unforgivable Curse? Or the powerful Transfiguration?" At this point, even Draco couldn't wait any longer.
Lupin shook his head, then looked at Draco and smiled.
“Of course we should start with the basics. While Severus is good at potions and dark magic, I am actually more experienced in Defense Against the Dark Arts.”
"Defense against the Dark Arts?" Draco looked at Lupin with disbelief, sizing him up.
In response to his questioning, Lupin simply said...
“My father is an expert in the field of dark magic creatures and spirits. I grew up under his influence, so I am very familiar with those dark magic creatures.”
"A dark magic creature?" Draco was puzzled again.
“That’s right, like creatures such as Grindylow, Red Hat, and Boggart.”
“What are those!” Draco said indignantly. “Shouldn’t defense against dark magic be a spell technique mastered by the Aurors, specifically designed to counter all kinds of dark magic?”
Lupin patiently explained to Draco.
"What you're talking about is certainly part of the defense against dark magic, but in the world of magic, the dark forces that can harm wizards are far more than just the wizards' own dark magic. Those harmful creatures are also included in this category. According to the statistics of the British Ministry of Magic alone, quite a few wizards have died from these dark magical creatures in recent decades."
"Therefore, the study of defense against black magic must be approached step by step. To get started, one should begin by dealing with black magic creatures. As for resisting the black magic of wizards, that will be learned later."
"Why can't we just skip to the later part!" Draco was still unwilling to give up. He clearly wanted to learn the more advanced part in order to prove that he was better than Harry.
Lupin simply shrugged.
"If you have a sufficient foundation in spells, then it's not impossible, but can you even use the most basic levitation spell?"
This question completely silenced Draco.
Seeing that Draco was finally able to calm down, Lupin took out a book from his suitcase. The book was called "The Dark Creatures Guide".
"This is for you. It's one of my favorite books since I was a child. It basically introduces all the dark magic creatures that exist in Europe, and each one has a story. When I was in school, I would read it to pass the time. It's a very good introductory book."
Draco reluctantly took the book from Lupin, his expression showing disdain for the old book with its worn cover. However, the way he hugged it tightly after receiving it revealed that he actually cared a lot about the gift.
The day's lessons certainly didn't teach Draco much of anything practical, but the book "The Guide to Dark Creatures" completely captivated him.
He unusually stopped arguing and fighting with Harry, and spent most of his free time reading, which made Harry feel a little uncomfortable.
"What are you looking at? The Dark Creatures Guide? What kind of book is that?" After dinner that day, Harry finally found Draco under a tree next to the tent.
Draco, who was engrossed in the story about the red hat in the book, was suddenly interrupted by Harry, which made him look up impatiently.
"If you have nothing else to do, go help those trolls pick their noses instead of bothering me here!"
Harry was completely captivated by the book Draco was reading.
"Did Remus give this to you?"
Upon hearing this question, Draco simply raised his head and said dismissively.
"If Snape can give you a wand, why can't Lupin give me anything?"
Harry clicked his tongue twice.
"I didn't say no, you're being too sensitive."
Draco didn't want to talk to him anymore and just focused his attention back on the book.
But the more he did this, the more curious Harry became about the book in his hands, feeling as if ants were crawling all over him.
"After you finish reading this book, can I borrow it?"
Harry's words made Draco's lips curl into a smile.
Although the book Lupin gave him was indeed very interesting, given Draco's usual habits, even the most interesting book was far from enough to make him lose track of time.
He did it on purpose!
Harry discovered Draco's weakness, and Draco, of course, knew how to deal with Harry.
Once Harry's curiosity is piqued in some way, he simply can't control himself, even if it means taking risks and making mistakes, he still wants to find out what he wants to know.
Just like last time when Draco lured him into the lab to eavesdrop on Lupin and Severus's conversation.
Now, Harry's curiosity about the book has clearly been piqued as well.
However, the more eager he seemed, the more Draco refused.
"no!"
"Why?" Harry put his arm around Draco's shoulder familiarly. "We're friends, right? Besides, I don't need to see it now. You can give it to me after you've finished reading!"
Draco simply shook off his arm with a look of disgust.
"Who says you're a friend!"
"Hey! That's not very nice of you. I lent you my wand before when you wanted to see it, but now I'm just asking to borrow a book, and you're being so stingy!"
"How dare you say that! When you showed me your wand, you wouldn't let go! I couldn't even touch it!"
"That was a gift from my teacher. Besides, you haven't learned any spells. What if you accidentally break it by waving it around?"
Draco snorted and mimicked Harry's tone.
"Yes, Lu Ping gave it to me too. Besides, you're so clumsy, what if you tear it after you borrow it?"
"I swear I definitely won't!" Harry's curiosity was truly piqued by Draco.
Draco made a gesture, his eyes involuntarily glancing at the wand in Harry's pocket.
"If you agree to lend me your wand for two days."
However, as soon as he said that, Harry covered his wand like a mother hen protecting her chicks.
"No! This is the only requirement! You can make any other request you like!"
His attitude was very firm. Harry had always cherished the wand that Severus had given him, and Draco had indeed never systematically studied spells. If he were just given it to him to play with, he might actually break it.
Seeing Harry's resolute attitude, Draco was at a loss for what to do.
But playing with wands was just something new for him. At the Malfoy family, he had touched both Lucius's wand and Narcissa's.
The reason they wanted Harry's wand so much was just because of some childish thoughts.
Now that Harry is unwilling to give it up, Draco doesn't necessarily need his wand, and his other requests are quite attractive.
"You really want to see it?" Draco asked, feigning reluctance.
Harry nodded repeatedly.
"Young Master Malfoy, please!"
Draco felt incredibly comfortable being called "Young Master," and he couldn't suppress the smile on his face as he proudly raised his head.
"Since you're so sincere, alright then. I can lend you this book after I finish reading it, but on the condition that you serve me as my follower for one day, not two!"
Harry didn't agree immediately, but just watched him warily.
"What kind of lackey?"
"You must serve me tea and water, prepare my tableware and food at mealtimes, and always call me Master Malfoy!"
Hearing this request sound more like a child's game, Harry couldn't help but lower his guard.
If it was only this level, it wouldn't be a big deal for him, so he readily agreed.
"no problem!"
Draco glanced at him sideways.
"Is this how you talk to your boss?"
Seeing that he had already gotten into the zone, Harry couldn't help but take a deep breath.
“No problem, Master Malfoy.”
