Chapter 198 Silver Whistle

Chapter 198 Silver Whistle
Since rescuing the banshee ghost, Severus and Lupin have been studying the silver whistle they obtained from the underground chamber.

The thing looked like a whistle, but when you blew into it, it didn't make a sound. The whistle itself must have needed some kind of incantation to activate it and make it work.

Without the supervision of Severus and Lupin, Harry's days in the forest were quite fulfilling.

Upon waking up, he would first follow Severus's instructions to read books and practice spells. By now, he had mastered the three most basic spells—levitation, petrification, and illumination—and could use them normally.

After morning practice and breakfast, he and Draco would help Andrews clean the large nails of some trolls.

This job was no easy task, and Draco often got bored after a while, so he would secretly take Andrews' fishing rod and go fishing by the river.

After lunch, he would take a stroll around the yellow-horned goats to observe how they graze.

In the afternoon, you might encounter wizards who come to the forest in search of the Fountain of Good Fortune. There have been more and more of them in the forest lately, and you can meet several of them every day.

When they see Harry, they ask him if he has seen the golden unicorn. Harry can only patiently say that he doesn't know, and he also has to keep explaining to these people why there are so many trolls living in the wooden houses.

In the evening, Harry would take his pet Puffy around the river to find some mushrooms for it, which they would roast before dinner.

Pu Rongrong isn't picky about food; it will eat anything. But recently, for some reason, Harry can clearly feel that the Pu Rongrong he found isn't eating much. It doesn't seem to like the leftover food.

So, whenever he had free time, Harry would find some mushrooms for it in the woods and give them to Lupin before he prepared dinner, so that Lupin could prepare a special meal for Puffy.

Just tonight, Harry had brought back a few mushrooms from outside the troll village when Draco mysteriously approached him.

Do you want to know what Snape and Lupin are researching?

Harry pursed his lips.

"I'm not blind, and the teachers never intended to hide it from us. Weren't they just studying that whistle?"

"But do you know what that whistle is actually for?" Draco said smugly.

Seeing his expression, Harry couldn't help but look at him suspiciously.

"You didn't secretly go to the teacher and overhear something, did you?"

"What do you mean by eavesdropping!" Draco scoffed. "I overheard them when I went into their tent to find some snacks, and their door wasn't closed!"

“That’s just eavesdropping.” Harry shrugged helplessly.

“It was an accident!” Draco glared at him. “If you’re not interested in this, then forget it! I’m not obligated to share anything with you!”

Seeing Draco turn to leave, Harry quickly reached out and grabbed him.

"Young Master Malfoy, it was my fault. You were indeed careless; it was unintentional!"

He skillfully began to speak in accordance with Draco's temperament, and of course, he was also very curious about the research results of Severus and Lupin.

Now, he doesn't even need to make a mistake by eavesdropping. He just needs to say a few nice words, and Draco will spill everything he knows like potatoes.

When Draco heard Harry's words of submission, an uncontrollable smile immediately appeared on his face, but he still maintained a tough demeanor as he spoke.

"Since you've begged me like this, I'll tell you what I have to say."

He leaned close to Harry's ear, glancing furtively left and right before whispering to him only after confirming that no one else was around.

“I overheard Lupin and Snape talking. They were saying that the whistle can’t be blown; it needs to be activated with magic. If we can break the magic on the whistle, we might be able to use it to summon the golden unicorn that everyone is looking for and is currently hiding in the forest!”

Harry's eyes widened immediately.

In the past two days, he has encountered many explorers in the forest who are looking for the golden unicorn. According to them, as long as you can find the unicorn and follow it, you will eventually find the legendary Fountain of Good Fortune!

Harry had always believed that this was Severus's ultimate purpose in bringing them to this forest.

"Did you hear it with your own ears?" Harry asked in a low voice.

Draco seemed quite unhappy with these criticisms.

"Do you think I'm a boring liar? They're still talking right now. If you don't believe me, we can go into the tent right now and pretend to go to the house to pack things up to eavesdrop on what they're saying."

Harry hesitated. Hearing it from Draco was definitely not the same as actually running over to eavesdrop.

But Harry was genuinely curious about what Lupin and Severus were talking about, and if he didn't hear it clearly, he felt like an ant was crawling inside him, which was incredibly uncomfortable.

After hesitating for a while, he finally made up his mind and said it.

"We weren't eavesdropping! We overheard it by accident when we went back to our tents to pack our things."

At that moment, Draco also smiled.

"Yes, of course we weren't eavesdropping!"

Having spent so many days together, Harry had figured out Draco's temperament, and Draco certainly knew Harry perfectly well.

He knew perfectly well that Harry wouldn't be able to resist, and he lured him into making a mistake with him.

Now, Draco has clearly achieved his goal.

The two men furtively placed the mushrooms down and then went into the tent. As if to bolster their courage, they straightened their backs and held their heads high after passing through the entrance hall.

But Severus and Lupin's research office was at the very end of the corridor, and they couldn't possibly pass by there if they were just going back to their rooms to pack their things.

However, now that they were already inside, and Harry and Draco could even faintly hear sounds coming from the corridor, they certainly wouldn't stop here.

The two exchanged a glance, both seeing in each other's eyes the intention to continue forward.

Then they started crouching down again, standing on tiptoe, and Harry even deliberately pressed down on the fluffy hair on his head to prevent it from making any noise.

"The psychic potion didn't work. This whistle has complex alchemical inscriptions that look even older than ancient runes; it's some kind of cuneiform script."

"Could it be something that came from Egypt? When I was wandering, I had a conversation with an Egyptian shaman. He taught me some activation spells used for ancient Egyptian exploration. Shall I give it a try?"

The next moment, a spell that had absolutely nothing to do with English echoed in the room.

Then a blinding light flashed inside, followed by a series of sounds like an explosion!
"Oh my god! Stop!"

"The curse stops immediately!"

The chaotic noise finally subsided after a universally accepted incantation was uttered.

Draco lowered his voice.

"It seems their research isn't going very well."

“If the Fountain of Good Fortune were really that easy to find, then we wouldn’t have so many wizards coming here!” Harry whispered.

A rustling sound came from the lab, and soon Severus's voice rang out again. "It seems this whistle has nothing to do with Egypt. It must be a special alchemical artifact; potions and spells have no effect on it."

"Then what should we do next?"

"Didn't we just meet a great alchemist in France? Let's write a letter to Nicolas Flamel; he'll surely be willing to help us."

"Ah! Right! I forgot, we also have off-field support! But should we tell him about the possibility that this whistle might be related to Lucky Fountain?"

"There's no need to hide this from him. It would be even better if Nicolas Flamel were also interested in this legend and made a special trip over!"

Just as Harry and Draco were engrossed in overhearing this, Harry suddenly realized that his hands, which had been holding Puffy above his head, were now empty.

His face turned panicked, and he began searching everywhere for the fluffy creature, but he couldn't find it anywhere in the corridor.

Draco also realized what Harry had lost, and his expression turned tense.

"It didn't run inside, did it?!"

“I don’t know!” Harry was taking off his coat, thinking the fluffy creature had hidden inside.

"You should have been optimistic about it from the beginning!"

"I was holding onto it the whole time, how did it get away!"

"Hurry up, have you found it yet!"

"I'm looking for it!"

Just then, a voice suddenly rang in their ears.

"Is this what you're looking for?"

Harry and Draco froze instantly.

Lupin emerged from the research room, clutching the fluffy toy Harry had lost, and looked at the two unfortunate children with a calm yet slightly mischievous gaze.

Draco didn't hesitate and immediately sold Harry out.

"It's all Dudley's fault! He insisted on coming to eavesdrop on what you were saying! I've already tried to talk him out of it!"

Harry blushed, and he showed Draco absolutely no mercy.

"Draco eavesdropped first! He told me that you guys figured out that the whistle might be related to the golden unicorn in the forest, so he called me over to eavesdrop!"

The two argued and looked like they were about to fight, which forced Lupin to separate them with a headache.

"Alright, alright! Hearing this isn't a big deal, but remember to keep everything you hear to yourselves. Don't tell anyone, especially the wizards who come to the forest to explore and search for the Fountain of Good Fortune, understand?"

Harry and Draco were very obedient this time, nodding repeatedly to show that they would keep Lupin's words in mind.

Seeing this, Lupin didn't say anything more. He simply put the mischievous fluffy cat on Harry's shoulder, waved to them, and said...

"Okay, let's go out and have some fun!"

Upon hearing this, Harry and his companion felt a great sense of relief and dashed out of the tent.

After watching them leave, Lupin returned to the research room, this time turning around and closing the door tightly.

Severus was writing a letter to Nicolas Flamel at his desk when he heard the door close behind him. He didn't turn around, but asked instead.

"Is it Harry and Draco?"

"Yes, they heard us speculating that the whistle was related to the Lucky Spring, and I told them not to spread that information."

As Lupin finished speaking, Severus also finished writing the last letter on the letter.

He put away his quill, rolled up the parchment, and looked toward a chest of drawers in front of the door.

"Where did that fluffy little cat go?"

Lupin shrugged.

"There were some cookie crumbs on it, and I caught it eating those things. It must have gotten in by accident."

They chatted for a few moments, and then Severus stood up from his chair with the scroll of letters in his hand.

If you want to ask Nicolas Flamel for help, you'll definitely have to leave the forest and find the owl if you send this letter.

Of course, it's getting late now, so we can wait until after dinner to rent an owl.

At the same time, Harry and Draco, who had just run out of the tent, were both breathing heavily.

The tension, excitement, and exhilaration lingered on their faces—clearly the feelings one has after committing something bad together.

After escaping, the tension between the two of them completely disappeared, just like it had been in the tent.

"You'd better keep a closer eye on your silly pet next time."

"It didn't happen on purpose."

"Luckily, I was smart enough to distract Lupin, otherwise we would definitely have gotten scolded!"

"So you were just trying to distract me, not really trying to smear me?" Harry shrugged and spread his hands.

“Think what you want!” Draco said, head held high. “Anyway, you heard it yourself, that whistle really is related to that golden unicorn, which means we are the most likely people in this forest to find the Fountain of Good Fortune!”

His tone became noticeably excited.

Even adult wizards can't resist the allure of such legends, let alone two children?
Even Harry couldn't help but imagine what it would be like when they finally found the Fountain of Good Fortune.

"I wonder what kind of luck we'll have after bathing in that spring? Will we win the lottery?"

Draco became especially happy when this was mentioned.

"We'll be so lucky we'll find Galleons on the street! We'll walk into a broom shop and be told they're having a 50th anniversary celebration and are giving us two brand-new Nimbus brooms for free! Mom and Dad will praise me every day for being the pride of the Malfoys! The Ministry of Magic will treat us like honored guests and let us tell the Aurors exactly how to work!"

"Right, that is it!"

Draco said everything Harry had thought of and hadn't even thought of, which made Harry laugh out loud!

Even the fluffy creature on Harry's head seemed to be infected by this emotion and started jumping around.
