Chapter 157 Tell them the answer they want
"Where are the Snape men?"
Looking around, besides the Lemaîtres, only their house-elf was crying and clinging to Madame Lemaître's leg.
Russo did not find Severus.
“He went to see his friends and students, and Yuma went with him,” Gilar said.
"Get someone back as soon as possible, and don't let any journalists contact them until the matter is thoroughly investigated!"
Just as Russo was making the arrangements.
Severus was listening to Harry excitedly recount how he had defeated the goblin while riding a flying broomstick with a group of black cats.
He also displayed the flying skateboard he had captured.
"The Ministry of Magic didn't take this thing away?" Severus was clearly surprised.
Lupin glanced at Yuma standing in front of the door, then leaned closer to Severus and whispered.
“I didn’t let Dudley give this to them, and the same goes for Rosier. I only told them he was under magical control, and that Mother Aimee as well. The Aurors asked me about these things, but I told them I wouldn’t say anything until you got back, so they still don’t know who led the intruder into the Ministry of Magic.”
Unlike before when Severus was raising the children alone, Lupin handled these matters much more appropriately after they came along.
Severus nodded, a strange smile on his face, and said softly.
"It's right not to say it. They must be frantic now that they know I brought Le Maire back."
"Because we are British wizards?"
"It wasn't just because we were British wizards, they were also afraid. They were afraid that I had managed to rescue people from a group they didn't want to see, based on my previous guesses."
Just as Severus finished speaking, Yuma, who had been waiting outside the door, greeted someone.
Then, a group of Aurors walked through the door.
"Mr. Snape, there are some details the department would like to hear from you regarding the rescue of Mr. Lemaître and his wife."
Their attitude was very polite, but the way the visitors acted didn't seem to have given him the right to refuse.
Harry and the others looked over, their eyes filled with worry.
Severus, however, didn't care at all. He knew very well what the politicians in the French Ministry of Magic were worried about. There would be no surprises on this trip; Nico had already made his decision.
“Well done, Dudley. You were right with Lupin. Even if I were here and faced a similar situation, I would not hesitate to make the decision to save people.”
He stood up from his chair, patted Harry on the shoulder, and then turned his gaze to Draco.
"You're just as good, Draco. You take good care of Mrs. Rosier, which is something most people your age can't do."
Draco pretended to be reading a book, as if he didn't care about Severus's words at all, but his already pale face was noticeably flushed.
“Then wait for me a moment.” Severus approached the group of Aurors. “Once I’m back, we can leave here today.”
Severus and Lemaître were certainly not criminals.
Therefore, their questioning should never be treated like that of prisoners.
If that were the case, once such news were published by the French news media, the French Ministry of Magic would be drowned in the spittle of its own wizards!
Severus and the Lemaîtres were ushered into a reception room.
There are no cold, chained chairs here, only soft sofas, bright crystal chandeliers, and fresh fruit and desserts on the coffee table.
It was less of an inquiry and more like a casual tea party.
Aside from Severus and his two companions, the only other person attending this tea party was Gilar, the head of the Auror Command! There was no one else in the reception hall; all the Aurors were left to guard outside.
On the table in front of Girard was a shorthand quill and parchment, clearly indicating that their conversation would be recorded in its entirety.
Right now, this powerful witch is chatting with Madame Lemaître, and she seems quite relaxed.
But Severus, who was listening to their conversation with his legs crossed, noticed that Gilar's left hand, which was resting on his knee, was unconsciously gripping the edge of his robe.
She gripped the robe tightly, her knuckles turning slightly blue, revealing that her inner state was anything but as calm as she appeared.
"While we are all sincerely happy that you have returned safely, according to regulations and rules, there are some questions that must be asked and recorded."
Finally, Gilard got down to business.
Nico nodded in understanding.
"Of course we have to do it. This matter has attracted so much attention. Now that we're back, we naturally have to give everyone an explanation."
"How were you arrested the day you attended the Alchemists' Guild gathering?" Gilar inquired.
The shorthand quill pen also quickly left various marks on the parchment.
The person who answered this question was Nico's wife, Perena.
She was quite old, but she and Nico still had a very good relationship, and the two sat close together on the sofa.
“We received a letter written by someone who had taken control of the head of the Muggle community hospital we were funding. The letter told us that there had been a major incident at the hospital and that we needed to go to the scene immediately.”
"So Nico and I rushed there, only to find out it was a trap. They had set a snare there, and we were captured."
At this opportune moment, Gilard asked a question.
"Do you know who the wizard who captured you is?"
Nicole shook her head calmly.
“If you want me to describe what they look like, I can do so anytime, but they have clearly used various methods to conceal their true identities, and we have not found out who they are.”
"You didn't find anything from beginning to end?" Gilard continued, frowning as he asked.
“Yes.” Nico nodded firmly, looking as if he could vouch for what he said.
Gilal's brow remained furrowed, but her hands, which had been gripping her robe tightly, relaxed considerably.
This answer might be the best response for her and the Ministry of Magic.
But then she turned her gaze to Severus, who was standing to the side.
"Have you discovered anything further about the killer's identity, Mr. Snape?"
Compared to her attitude yesterday afternoon, her tone was much more respectful this time.
Regardless of Severus's final answer, the French Ministry of Magic cannot conceal his remarkable feat of single-handedly rescuing the Flamels!
Severus and Gilard looked at each other, and he smiled.
“I apologize for the wrong conclusion I made yesterday, Ms. Girard, you are right.”
Since the French Ministry of Magic needs that answer, then give it to them.
