Chapter 140 Chase and Escape

The group led by Vida Rozier all appear to be getting on in years.

The youngest of the middle-aged male wizards was timid and hesitant, clearly not belonging to the same organization as the others.

Vida lit a cigarette and exhaled a cloud of smoke.

Rozier stared at her in shock; this was the first time he had ever learned the whole story!

He originally thought that being abandoned by his parents and then taken in by his aunt who had joined the church was an accident, a complete coincidence.

They didn't initially intend to use themselves for anything, but later they discovered their own value and began to take control of themselves.
It turns out that all of this had already been underway for some time.

His life was completely controlled by them, from leaving home to being adopted, from starting a job to renting a house, and even from the moment he met his wife!
“Mary was also arranged by you! You controlled her!”

“Controlling a Muggle?” Vida flicked his cigarette ash. “It doesn’t have to be that complicated. You don’t need to doubt the feelings between you, or you should cherish them, because they are the only real thing you have.”

"That Muggle was someone we picked for you, someone we thought would be the most likely to make you fall for him. We even orchestrated that coincidence. Otherwise, what do you think could have happened that would put a single young woman in such an awkward position as to share an apartment with another single man?"

"If we don't give you a little taste of life's sweetness, why would you be so willing to let us manipulate you?"

Vida beckoned to the small silver snake, and the magical alchemical creation swam toward a hidden door deep inside the minister's office.

Soon, the hidden door was opened by its destruction, revealing a safe inside!

A wizard named Grimerson, who had fought against Severus and Lupin, took the safe and began to crack it on the spot, while the silver snake transformed into various tools to help him.

Rozier was breathing heavily as he stared at the witch dressed in a clerk's uniform, whose face showed no pity or mercy.

"Since you've given me some hope, please, please don't destroy it! I've done everything you asked! My life has been completely ruined, my mind can't go back to normal, I've committed terrible crimes, I admit it all! I'm willing to accept the wizards' judgment."

"Now I can only beg you, Aunt Amy, please! Spare Mary! Spare my wife, she's my only one, please!"

Rozier simply looked down at him, her eyes devoid of contempt or pity, only a cold indifference.

"So without magic, without control of power, you have no right to choose. You are forced to do these things, and whether you can get the promise you deserve afterward depends on such humble begging. But what can you do, Patrick?"

“I saved your life from your parents, I taught you how to live in Muggle society at the orphanage, and I brought you and Mary together. Do you think all of this was done out of pity for you?”

"No, it's that you yourself can create your own benefits."

"Of course I promised you before that after you've done what you were supposed to do, I would give you back a peaceful life and let your wife go. But do you think you can return to peace after you've done all that?"

“The French Aurors have discovered the truth and will not let you go. You will never have the chance to see your wife again. You will suffer desperate torment in prison until you end your life. Mary will also live in pain for the rest of her life.”

Vida stared into his eyes and, in the tone of a Wizengamo judge, delivered his verdict on Rozier.

"So stop dreaming. While I still think you have some use, come with us. As for Mary, at least you can protect her from behind, right?"

Some of the people who were originally standing behind Vida stirred up a bit after hearing these words; they could no longer see any use for this Squib.

The options now are either to hand him over to the French Aurors for revenge, or to resolve the matter on the spot to prevent future trouble. Taking him away is clearly not a wise choice.

But the commotion soon subsided; after so many years, they had long since developed absolute trust in Vida Rozier, the witch.

She was a follower of their leader's will, and if she wanted to keep this Squib, she must have her reasons.

Such a reason must depend on the most fundamental interests and has nothing to do with any emotions.

Grimerson, who was cracking the safe nearby, had clearly reached the most crucial stage; the protective box, specially made by many alchemy experts from the Ministry of Magic, erupted with a series of crackling sounds like firecrackers. Rozier simply stared at Vida, his great-aunt who was famous in any magical government in Europe by blood.

“So, so you think that me going with you is actually the best arrangement for me,” he murmured.

“Otherwise?” Vida looked at him calmly. “If I had never interfered with your fate in the first place, you would have been abandoned by your parents when you were 11 years old and would have starved to death somewhere.”

"You may think I'm bad, that I've used you and done so many things, orchestrating your fate from beginning to end, but you also have to admit that you've benefited from these arrangements, haven't you?"

"I'd rather have been killed by my parents in the first place! And left to starve to death in the wilderness!!"

Rozier glared at Vida, his eyes bloodshot, breathing heavily like someone who had been pulled from the water.

“I know I am nothing! I understand I am just a Squib! You can control everything about me, decide my life and death, my destiny from the very beginning! But I am also a person! You have never treated me as a human being! You think your decisions are for my own good?”

"Those things only serve your best interests! You're only asking me to go with you now because of that! If I were to die here right now, it would bring you more value! You would kill me without hesitation!"

Vida chuckled softly.

The older wizards behind her watched the struggling Squib with indifferent expressions.

“You’re right. I want to keep you here only because I feel that your value hasn’t been fully realized yet, and there’s still some value that can be used.”

"But do you think you can refuse even if you don't want to? Patrick, you've been deprived of all rights since birth, not even the most basic right of every person—the right to decide their own life and death!"

As soon as he finished speaking, Vader pulled out his wand, the tip of which was already pointed at Rosier.

Just at this critical moment, two figures suddenly jumped out from behind the door!
At the same moment, Rozier's body flew backward uncontrollably!

Most people didn't react in time, but Vader immediately swung his wand.

A blinding crimson beam shot toward Rozier in mid-air, but before it could hit its target, a transparent barrier blocked the spell!
"You take Rozier and run back first!"

The tall, weathered wizard shouted from the figure. The short boy next to him reacted instantly. He jumped up and grabbed Rozier by the back of his collar, who was being levitated by the zombie spell and flying in mid-air. Then he turned and ran!

This all happened so fast that it was only now that the old wizards behind Vida finally realized what was happening.

They all pulled out their wands and began chanting spells at the intruders!

The tall, weathered wizard is none other than Lupin!
When Vida's Silent Curse struck his Armor Curse, causing spiderweb-like cracks to appear on the protective barrier, Lupin knew in his heart that these people were not to be trifled with!

He had previously fought alongside Severus against two of them.

Not only are they individually comparable in strength to elite Aurors from the Ministry of Magic of a major power, but they also have an extremely tacit understanding and trust in each other!

If Severus were here, Lupin might have dared to team up with him and put up a fight, but now that he's alone, the best course of action is to rescue the person and make a quick getaway!

So, once he was sure that Harry had run away with Rozier, Lupin didn't hesitate at all. He didn't care about his image anymore. He scrambled and crawled, dodging the first volley of spells in a very disheveled manner, and then turned and ran without hesitation!

Three of the old wizards behind Vida gave chase immediately, but Lupin was faster. Almost as soon as they caught up outside the door, Lupin was already rushing out of the corridor and completely escaping the minister's office.

"Nalak! You take Peso and Black Claw and go after them! Try your best to bring Patrick back alive. If you can't, don't force it, run away immediately!"

At Vida's command, three goblins dressed in suits stepped forward. They clearly possessed magic that wizards could not master, allowing them to operate more effectively within the sphere of influence of the French Ministry of Magic.

Without hesitation, the three immediately chased after the direction in which Lupin and Harry had disappeared.

At this moment, the safe was finally opened by Grimerson, and all the top secrets of the French Ministry of Magic were exposed to this group of dark wizards!
