Chapter 138 Don't be afraid, Draco
"Can you sense roughly when he changed?"
Lupin looked at Mary and asked.
Mary was trying to calm herself down. She knew she couldn't get agitated right now; the more agitated she became, the less likely she was to solve the problem or say what needed to be said.
“It must have been in the morning when those wizards took us to identify a flashlight. It was the first gift Patrick gave me, and the wizards said that it had been taken and sold by the murderers.”
"A flashlight? Did he touch that flashlight?" Lu Ping asked.
“He turned on the flashlight, and then I was blinded by its light,” Mary said uneasily. “I know him very well, nobody knows him better than me, and I sensed something was wrong with him then!”
"At the time, I just thought he was worried about his family, because according to the wizards, those people had thrown away everything in the house! If no one takes care of us, even if we can get back home, we won't be able to live at all!"
"Both he and I have been involved in this for far too long. Even if it's all over in the end, we haven't been back to work for so long, and we don't know if we'll still have our jobs."
"I... I thought he was worried about these things, so... so I didn't think there was anything wrong before."
As she continued, Mary couldn't help but cry. She covered her face, her body trembling uncontrollably, and she sobbed in suppressed sobs.
This left Draco, who was sitting to the side, somewhat at a loss. He instinctively disliked this Muggle woman, but he also felt uneasy watching a woman cry.
He hesitated for a long time before finally pulling out two pieces of paper and handing them to Mary. Then, he immediately pulled out two more pieces of paper with disgust and wiped his hands.
"Did he say anything else when he called you over?" Lupin asked, still staring into her eyes.
"He...he just stuffed those two boxes of cookies into my arms, kissed me, and looked at me and swore that no matter what he did, he would always love me and would never betray me."
“I sensed something was wrong, so I asked him what was going on. But he wouldn't tell me anything, he just told me to come find you. He said that as long as I stayed with you, I could be safe.”
"I asked him, I asked him what he wanted to do, if he was hiding something from me! He just grabbed my hand and told me. He told me that fate had brought us into this world, but he wouldn't succumb to fate. He said he would definitely protect me! Protect me from any harm, protect our home, and protect our future from harm."
"Then, then he left. All the wizards were gone, and no one could restrain him. I watched him leave the corridor and run outside."
After listening to Mary's halting narration, which sounded like it was due to nervousness or shortness of breath, the bedroom became extremely quiet.
Even Draco didn't say anything like "Squirts are just like that" or "Muggles are all untrustworthy."
After a long silence, Harry finally turned to look at Lupin.
"Patrick must have been forced to do something! All the Aurors in the Ministry of Magic are out there now; they've arranged this for him! They're just using him at this time!"
Lupin frowned; even without Harry telling him, he knew what had happened.
Rozier's memory problems have been confirmed by the Ministry of Magic, meaning that his actions and words before being shone by that flashlight should be true.
When the Aurors helped him remove the forgetting spells they could remove, they inevitably glimpsed a part of his memories.
And since he had passed such a direct scrutiny, neither the French Ministry of Magic nor Severus Lupin ever doubted Rosier's innocence.
As for now, there's definitely something wrong with that flashlight!
It may have restored some memories that the Aurors could not recover, or it may have used some other method to change Rozier's thinking.
However, both Harry and Lupin could tell from Rozier's behavior and language before he was shone with the flashlight.
This young man, whose life was full of hardships, was by no means a bad person.
"We must save him!"
Harry broke the silence once again.
Lupin, Draco, and Mary all turned to look at him.
Draco looked shocked.
"What are you talking about? You're so sure it wasn't voluntary? Maybe he's already in cahoots with those killers. He lied to his wife before, not telling her he was a Squib. Can't he lie now too?!"
Lupin didn't speak; he just stared blankly at Harry. In his eyes, his once confident, brave, and kind best friend from his student days seemed to have never died.
A new life continued his entire being, and along with his mother, the boy inherited all the good qualities of his parents.
"This is very dangerous. Severus isn't here right now, and I'm the only one watching over the two of you. This is extremely dangerous!"
Lupin took a deep breath, staring into Harry's eyes, clearly not very supportive of Harry's suggestion.
"If the teacher were here, he would definitely agree to go!"
Harry stared into Lupin's eyes and said firmly.
"Just like when he captured Bloodny and Wolpe, and after telling me about Bloodny's experiences, he didn't hesitate to help them! Even though it would make him a wanted man and bring him infamy! But he knew he was doing the right thing!" At this moment, Harry's words made Lupin a little dazed.
Once upon a time, during his student days, he was just like Harry is now.
At Hogwarts, the four of them never considered any danger or consequences as long as they felt it was right and wanted to do it!
Simply because they think it's right!
Now, faced with the same situation, he hesitated, trying to stop himself from getting involved in such danger, but the 9-year-old boy in front of him spoke up loudly.
And he was told that this principle was taught to him by Severus Snape, and that Severus Snape himself set an example for him!
This reality made Lupin feel like he was having trouble breathing.
When did it become like this?
His brave and kind companions were either dead or in prison, leaving him to wander and roam the outside world alone.
But what are those people who once scorned and regarded as evil snotty people now teaching their children?
Lupin quickly regained his composure, met Harry's eyes again, and said apologetically.
"I'm sorry, Dudley, I was overthinking things and forgot some things."
Draco stared at them in disbelief, taking two steps back and keeping a close eye on Lupin and Harry.
"You're all insane! You're actually willing to risk your lives to help a completely unrelated Squib, one who's committing a crime!"
At this point, Lupin obviously couldn't teach Draco much more, but even if they decided to go find Rozier, not everyone could go.
It's dangerous to have a child with you, Draco doesn't know any spells, he doesn't even have a wand, and there's a Muggle here who definitely needs to be left behind.
"You must stay, Draco!"
Lupin grabbed Draco's arm and looked at him intently.
"You must stay here and protect Mrs. Rozier."
Draco was caught off guard by this sudden assignment.
"Me? Me? Are you mistaken? I'm just a nine-year-old child! She's an adult!"
“But look at her!” Lupin suddenly pointed at Mary.
Draco looked over and noticed that Mary's face had turned extremely pale at some point. She seemed to be in great pain, struggling to breathe, and could only slump in her chair.
“There’s something wrong with her! She might have some kind of illness, or maybe the killers are using her to threaten Rozier. In any case, someone needs to take care of her right now!”
As Lupin spoke, he rummaged through his suitcase and quickly found more than a dozen bottles of medicine of various sizes.
He quickly identified a bottle of milky-white potion and shoved it into Draco's hand.
"The entire Ministry of Magic has been sealed off! We can't find anyone to help us! The fireplace is sealed off, and we can't Apparate out of here. We have to rely on ourselves!"
"This is a universal healing potion! But it's concentrated. To administer it properly, you must add it to 200 ml of hot water! Let it cool before she drinks it! You'll need to do this, Draco!"
Draco panicked and unconsciously took the vial of potion from Lupin's hand.
"Me, but it's me, I..."
"No matter what prejudices you have against Muggles, she is a living, breathing person in front of you right now! You wouldn't want to see her suffer like that, would you?"
Lupin just stared at him and said.
Draco didn't know how to answer.
Why should he care about the life or death of a Muggle?
Can.
But just as Lupin said, Draco looked at Mary, who was slumped in a chair, covered in sweat, and weak with pain, and he couldn't bring himself to say those words.
“But if, if she drinks this, it won’t make her any better.” Draco swallowed hard.
“It’s all up to us. That’s all we can do.” Lupin gave him a reassuring look, then drew his wand.
Without hesitation, Harry pulled out the birchwood wand that Severus had passed down to him from his satchel.
"Don't be afraid, Draco, we'll be back soon."
Harry said something nice to Draco, which was rare for him. However, Draco, who was still hesitant and nervous, suddenly reacted like a cat whose tail had been stepped on and yelled.
"Who are you calling afraid! I've never been afraid! It's just taking care of this lowly, weak Muggle! How could I possibly be afraid!"
