Chapter 136 The Great Explosion That Resounded Throughout Paris
It was not long after Severus had left the French Ministry of Magic.
Harry and Draco, who were too embarrassed to visit the Broom House after breaking the broom handle, were now idly playing wizard chess in their room.
Severus got the chessboard from Yuman at noon, but before he could teach Harry how to play, Gilar called him over because of the photo.
But after leaving the chess pieces behind, Draco, who had just finished writing a reply home, started showing off against Harry using wizard chess, ostensibly to teach Harry how to play, but actually to lecture him on the chessboard.
They hadn't even played two games when Lupin came back alone.
He didn't tell the two children exactly what Severus had gone to do, only saying that he had gone to take care of some other things and would be back soon.
Lupin then began to watch the two play chess, occasionally offering Harry a few pointers, which resulted in Draco losing significantly more pieces.
The living pieces on the chessboard were blaming their commander for poor management, and Draco angrily shifted the blame to Lupin, saying that he couldn't be Dursley's helper!
Just then, there was a knock on the door.
This surprised all three of them. After the person pushed open the door and walked in, they realized that it was Rozier and his wife.
“The wizards just stopped restricting our freedom of movement here, but told us that we still can’t go home for the time being. After Mary and I met, the first thing we wanted to do was to thank you, so we found out about this place.”
Patrick Rozier sincerely and gratefully expressed his thanks to Harry and Draco.
This made Harry feel a little uncomfortable, as he felt he hadn't really been of any help, having only relayed a few words.
Draco's feelings were somewhat peculiar.
Although the other party was just a low-level Squib and a Muggle who was not worthy of being mentioned, this was the first time in his life that someone had expressed their heartfelt gratitude for his actions.
He felt this was a good feeling, so he waved his hand dismissively and said.
"Since you are so sincerely grateful, then I..."
Harry reacted quickly and covered his mouth, preventing him from saying those embarrassing things.
Draco struggled to break free from Harry's grasp, and seeing the two glaring at each other, about to start a fight, Lupin spoke up for them.
"This is what they should do, and besides, they weren't really that helpful."
"No, no, they helped us a lot, as did Dali's teacher. That gentleman helped us a lot when we were in England, but at the time I didn't even know his name."
Rozier glanced around, but he didn't see Severus.
"Isn't that gentleman here?"
“The teacher is out running errands,” Harry replied.
"Did they say when you'll be able to go back?" Lupin asked.
"No, our apartment is still under lockdown, and we have nowhere else to stay."
Rozier shook his head, paused for a second, and then continued.
"And I heard from them that all our home appliances and furniture are gone and can't be found. Even if we can go home, we won't be able to live there for the time being."
Harry had always felt sorry for the Squib's plight. Rosier's family experiences made it easy for him to empathize with his own life at Aunt Petunia's house, where she was clearly much more unfortunate than him.
“You were forced to get involved in this. Once everything is investigated, they will definitely find a way to compensate you for your losses.”
Rozier didn't seem to be much relieved by Harry's words of comfort. He remained silent for a moment before finally nodding. "I hope so."
Mary looked at her husband with a worried expression. She could clearly sense that Rozier's condition seemed a bit off after he pointed out the flashlight that morning. He was spacing out for longer periods and spending more time in silence.
After chatting for a few more minutes, Rozier got up to leave.
This time, even Harry sensed that he was different from before, but Harry couldn't quite put his finger on what was different.
He only got up with Lupin when Rozier and the others left, and saw them out the door.
Just before leaving, Rozier said one last thing to Lupin.
"In about 20 minutes, I'll have Mary bring over some cookies. That's all we have to offer as a token of our gratitude. I hope you won't mind, okay?"
His words were strange and humble, and Lupin seemed worried that if he was slow to agree, it would cause some misunderstanding, so he immediately responded.
"We are really looking forward to it!"
Finally, the couple left.
Watching their departing figures, Harry asked with some confusion.
“I feel like Mr. Rozier seems a little different.”
Lupin simply patted Harry's head and sighed.
"Even if repeated setbacks and difficulties don't completely defeat him, they will always bring about some changes in his mindset. Hopefully, after this experience, their luck will improve a little."
Just as Lupin finished speaking, a piercing shriek suddenly rang out throughout the Auror command headquarters!
Lupin reacted quickly, pulling Harry and Draco to his side and then drawing his wand from his sleeve.
Not long after, almost all the Aurors who remained at the command post hurriedly came out of their offices, cloaks on, and, led by their respective commanders, began to line up and head towards the burning fireplace.
Among those people, Lupin saw Yuma.
"What happened?"
He stopped Yuma, who was gathering her group members, and asked nervously.
"Has the Ministry of Magic been attacked?"
Yuma answered loudly.
"No! No! The Ministry of Magic isn't in danger, it's that monastery! Those shameless thugs have broken through our forces stationed there, and they're launching a terrorist attack! We have to get there to reinforce them, or who knows how many people those lunatics will kill!!"
The ground suddenly trembled noticeably, and all the wizards in the Ministry of Magic felt the tremor!
At this moment, Yuma's face had completely lost its color, and his lips had turned white with fear!
"Damn it! What have they done now! What have they done this time?!"
At the same time, on the ground, in the direction of the monastery in Paris, which had just been shrouded in night.
A towering flame, accompanied by a massive explosion, resounded throughout the entire city!
