Chapter 116 Feeding the Rat Medicine

Chapter 116 Feeding the Rat Medicine
Severus, with Lupin and his two children, officially arrived on French soil.

They first found a restaurant in Calais and had a seafood feast, then continued driving towards Paris without stopping.

Not long after they left Calais, a group of people dressed in dark green robes quietly surrounded the port.

Then, after the next ship from Dover arrived in Calais.

These people, without making a sound or disturbing anyone else, kidnapped a young couple who had just driven off the ship and had no idea why or what had happened.

Severus and his companions were clearly unaware of all this.

The distance from Calais to Paris is over 200 kilometers, and even without rest, it would take them at least three or four hours to reach their destination.

After a day's journey, both Harry and Draco were exhausted. They curled up in their seats and dozed off for a while.

Taking this opportunity, Lupin and Severus talked about the letter they had received in England that morning.

"Britain must be in complete chaos right now. The Aurors can't keep this a secret. They know how much of a threat he poses to the people after his escape."

Lupin's face was somewhat somber; clearly, Sirius's betrayal of James had been a significant blow to him.

He still couldn't believe that Sirius, who had always been closest to James among the four, would ultimately betray him in such a way.

“Bagno probably already regrets why she didn’t retire at the beginning of this year and hand over the ministerial duties directly to Fudge.”

Severus was also thinking about it.

"With two prison breaks occurring in Azkaban, both involving vicious Death Eaters, the public will surely connect these two incidents when they hear this news."

"You should go find him! Then kill him! That will further prove your repentance!"

It was not Lupin who said this, but Snape the Ghost.

Ever since he and Severus saw the letter that morning, the ghost had become restless.

Although he didn't say anything, Severus could clearly sense that he was affected.

Severus, however, spoke candidly to himself about what he had said.

"If I really did what you said, then the feud between Harry and me would probably be compounded."

“You’re clearly avenging him!” Ghost Snape said coldly.

"Sirius Black is innocent. He did not betray Harry's father. The true secreter of the Allegiance Charm was actually another friend of theirs, Peter Pettigrew. Black thought he had killed Peter and avenged James, but even so, he still could not forgive himself for his mistake and chose to atone in Azkaban."

As Severus remarked on this point, he couldn't help but grumble.

"To be honest, even if I don't put myself in your shoes, I have to say that Black does have some issues with his head. You said his brother is dead, but his nephew is still alive, right? If he really wanted to atone for his sins, why didn't he choose to take care of Harry? Instead, he chose to bear the infamy and hide in Azkaban?"

"Yes, I meant hiding inside. Except for Lupin, the other three are Animagus, which can transform into animals. Dementors can't sense animal emotions, so they can't absorb them. That's how Black turned into a dog and hid in prison for so many years."

"If he really wanted to punish himself, why did he turn into a dog to prevent the Dementors from sucking him? If he didn't want to punish himself, why didn't he come out to take care of Harry? If you ask me, he's just being dramatic, and there's definitely something wrong with his head."

After listening to Severus's rambling account, Ghost Snape went from initial shock to chilling indignation and finally to silence. It was quite a while before he spoke again.

"So...you knew the truth, but you didn't tell the Ministry of Magic or anyone else." "He almost killed you back then. I was already being kind by not kicking you when you were down. Why should I tell him?"

Severus said calmly.

Ghost Snape fell silent again.

Although he had heard Severus say "we are inseparable" many times, he was still surprised when he noticed that Severus truly regarded all his past experiences as his own.

He was willing to acknowledge Lucius as a friend, and he was also willing to hold a grudge against Black as an enemy.

Ghost Snape was still overwhelmed with mixed feelings, and he could feel that gratitude was the strongest emotion among these complex feelings.

"But I did make some preparations."

At this point, Severus revealed a slightly sinister smile.

Ghost Snape frowned at him.

"What did you do?"

"You should remember this morning at the Leaky Cauldron, Arthur and I talked about how his mouse, Scabbers, has been shedding a lot and hasn't been feeling well lately, right?"

Soon, Ghost Snape recalled the incident.

"You said you'd send him a bottle of medicine later!"

“After seeing the news of Blake’s escape, I decided not to wait any longer. While we’re resting somewhere later, I’ll use Apparition to deliver the medicine that was originally in the sixth bottle of the fourth row of your office medicine cabinet to him,” Severus said softly.

"And I would also instruct him to add a small drop to the mouse's food every day for 30 days, which would make the mouse better."

"The sixth bottle in the fourth row. It's clear, in a small square glass bottle. It's Dream Potion!" Snape the Ghost stared intently at Severus. "Just one drop of that potion is enough to render someone mentally impaired for an entire day, leaving them only able to act on instinct. And you want Arthur to feed it to a mouse?"

“That rat is Peter Pettigrew, the true traitor among the four,” Severus said calmly.

Having only exchanged a few words with Severus, Ghost Snape had almost forgotten how many times he had been shocked by such completely unexpected news.

His mind worked quickly, and within seconds he understood why Severus had done this.

"Are you worried that the rat will be so frightened by Black's escape that it will flee the Weasleys in a panic?"

“If I don’t intend to clear Black’s name for the time being, then I must be prepared for this,” Severus admitted. “We can’t let that rat get away either; let it live a life of decadence at the Weasleys’ house for a month.”

“A month is enough time for us to take care of things outside, and then I will catch that rat myself.”

"So how exactly do you plan to resolve the Black matter?" Ghost Snape pressed.

Severus said it casually.

"That depends on Black himself first, and on how far he can go after he finds out that Harry left with me."
