Hogwarts: I am Snape

Chapter 61 Advanced Uses of Basic Spells

Chapter 61 Advanced Uses of Basic Spells

“Everything must be done in order!” Professor Flitwick stood on his high stool and firmly refused James’s request. “And remember, we’re all classmates!”

James pursed his lips, his face full of reluctance, but he had no choice but to compete against the others first. With each victory, the expression on his face grew increasingly gloomy.

By the time Snape and James went up on stage together, James's face was practically dripping with sweat.

Snape tilted his head slightly, his eyes filled with contempt and provocation.

“Now, bow to each other,” Professor Flitwick called out.

They barely nodded, their eyes fixed on each other.

"Oh... okay, one, two, three, start!"

In the blink of an eye, blinding beams of light shot out from the stage, and the sound of colliding spells reverberated throughout the auditorium.

Professor Slughorn's expression changed, and he quickly stepped forward, joining Professor Flitwick in waving their wands to create a protective barrier in front of the audience, blocking the spells that occasionally flew out of control.

This match was more intense than any of the previous ones. Excited cheers and shouts erupted from the crowd, and some people even conjured up chairs to stand on and crane their necks to watch the game.

Snape's eyes were cold, his face filled with murderous intent, and his wand was like a nimble serpent as he mercilessly hurled spells at James.

He waved his wand forcefully as he moved closer to James, his black robes billowing in the air.

Finally, Snape closed in on James. He stretched out his other hand and slammed it hard into James's astonished face.

With a sharp crack, James' nose gushed blood, splattering it all over the stage.

"Bang!" Professor Flitwick screamed and swung his wand. A flash of blue light separated the two of them. "No fists allowed!"

Snape was jolted back by the shockwave and said to Professor Flitwick with dissatisfaction, "Professor, I didn't break the rules!"

“From this moment forward,” Professor Flitwick shouted, “the fifth rule: no physical contact!”

After saying that, he waved his wand, and a golden light flashed, healing the wound on James's face.

"Oh, fine then." Snape turned his head impatiently. "Whatever you say, Professor."

The two stood up again, James grinding his teeth as he glared at Snape with resentment.

"He's knocked out!" Snape launched the first attack, a beam of red light shooting towards James.

James quickly dodged to the side, but before he could regain his footing, Snape immediately unleashed another cutting spell—"Cut in pieces!"

In the chaos, Jaime lost his footing and could only watch helplessly as the Severing Curse struck him.

He steeled his resolve and decided to tough it out, since it was just a basic spell used by lower-grade students to cut various materials.

The power and lethality of this spell are quite limited; even if Snape doesn't control his strength, it won't render him unable to fight.

James, however, did not experience the pain he had imagined.

At this moment, a gasp of surprise came from the audience.

James instinctively looked down and his eyes widened in shock—his wizard robes had been cut into strips and were dangling in the air.

Even more alarming, his hairy legs gleamed in the candlelight.

But the chilling sensation on his backside, coupled with the screams of the girls behind him, made James realize that things weren't so simple. His face flushed crimson, and he frantically raised his wand to retaliate.

But it was too late. In the blink of an eye, Snape's Disarming Charm was already before him.

With a "whoosh," James' wand flew out of his hand, spinning high into the air.

Snape didn't reach out to catch it. He had more important things to do.

Before Professor Flitwick could announce the winner, he flicked his wand, and James was thrown into the air.

Just as James reached the highest point, Snape unleashed another basic spell—"Alohomora!"

"No!" Professor Flitwick's voice was filled with horror. His face changed drastically, and he unleashed several spells in succession to stop Snape's attack on James.

Some of the spells even struck the ceiling, causing ripples to spread across the starry sky above the auditorium dome.

"Stop! The duel is over!" Professor Flitwick shouted in a high-pitched voice, drowning out the gasps of surprise that followed.

He jumped between Snape and James in a panic, and then cast several Ironclad Charms to separate the two. "Stop! Snape wins!"
"From this moment forward, the sixth rule is—absolutely, absolutely no unlocking charms! Anyone who uses one will be disqualified from the competition!"

With Professor Slughorn's help, James slowly landed on the stage. His wizard's robes were now reduced to a few tattered strips, fluttering awkwardly in the draft.

As soon as he landed, he rolled around on the stage, rushed to his wand, picked it up, and tried to attack Snape.

Professor Flitwick gently waved his wand, and an unseen force bound James tightly.

"Potter, go back and change your robes," Snape said with a mocking smile, deliberately drawing out his words.

The auditorium erupted in suppressed laughter, and several girls even covered their burning cheeks with their hands.

"You despicable bastard—" James's neck veins bulged as he struggled desperately to break free from the spell's bindings, his eyes filled with anger and humiliation.

After the match, the audience members were whispering among themselves, looking puzzled.

They hadn't understood why Professor Flitwick was so terrified, and even in his desperation, he cast multiple spells to stop Snape from releasing a simple incantation.

A Ravenclaw student in the front row suddenly widened his eyes, as if in a flash of realization, his voice trembling slightly: "My God! He just used 'Open Hollow'! If the spell had hit Potter..."

The second half of his sentence was drowned out by the gasps and exclamations that rose and fell. The once noisy Great Hall suddenly became eerily quiet, and everyone wore expressions of fear, looking at Snape with lingering unease.

He, along with Abbott and the people around Pandora, quickly dispersed, clearing a large area.

Snape ignored everyone's reactions and simply watched coldly as Sirius instructed Lupin and Wormtail to take James away.

Sirius Black's lazy arrogance had completely vanished. He gripped his wand tightly, his eyes burning with fire, and stood quietly in the crowd, waiting for his turn.

In the following duels, several of Snape's opponents merely stepped onto the stage symbolically before turning around and jumping off, effectively surrendering.

One Ravenclaw girl even slipped on the steps and hurriedly refused to go on stage from below.

Therefore, it was soon Sirius Black's turn to face Snape.
