Chapter 14 Hmm... Mine is bigger than my sister's [Please continue reading]
After evening self-study, Zhang Muchen rode his electric bike home.
As one of the few day students in the class, Zhang Muchen rides his bike home every night. However, most of the students in the class choose to live in the school dormitory.
It was past ten o'clock at night when Zhang Muchen arrived home. He pushed open the door, and the house was pitch black. Only the moonlight from outside shone through the curtains, outlining the vague shapes of the room's furnishings.
Zhang Muchen knew that her parents were working the night shift at the factory again tonight.
His parents were not highly educated, but they always supported the family in the most simple and honest way.
My mother was a quality inspector in a factory, and my father was an ordinary worker on the assembly line. They repeated essentially the same actions day after day, just like machines.
Zhang Muchen turned on the light and looked around the small home. Although simple and plain, it was tidy and organized.
He knew that everything here was thanks to his parents' hard work. Those ordinary, mundane days were pieced together by his parents' sweat and toil.
Thinking of this, Zhang Muchen sighed softly.
He took off his coat and hung it behind the door, then poured himself a glass of water and drank it slowly.
He recalled working on an assembly line during his vacation. He felt stiff all over and his legs felt like lead after less than a day there. Meanwhile, his parents worked more than ten hours a day in such an environment, with almost no time or freedom for themselves.
However, Zhang Muchen is not a very ambitious person and has no clear plans for the future.
He likes making money, but how about making big money? He has no connections and no resources.
His only asset might be his social skills. But what can social skills actually bring?
Things that can be resolved over a dinner party only work if you have the resources to do so.
Poverty is the original sin.
The watershed moment in life is amniotic fluid, and that's absolutely true.
The ability of the college entrance examination to change one's destiny is also weakening.
Zhang Muchen sees further than his peers, but the further he sees, the more confused he becomes.
Back in the bedroom, Zhang Muchen casually lay down on the bed, put his hands behind his head, and his gaze inadvertently fell on the guitar next to the bedside table.
It was a valuable guitar, which he had painstakingly saved up to buy.
Although he really wanted to play a couple of pieces, it was already late, and any random strumming of the strings might disturb the neighbors.
On the bedside table next to the guitar sat a framed photo. It was a picture of him with his parents, and now a girl was also in the photo.
Zhang Muchen sighed softly, turning his gaze to the night outside the window. A deep darkness enveloped the earth, making everything feel desolate.
"I suddenly feel a bit sentimental; it looks like I'll be having trouble sleeping tonight."
Three minutes later.
"Huh...huh...huh..."
Zhang Muchen drifted off to sleep with even breathing.
His worries never last more than three minutes.
……
Fuxing Residential Area, Room 303.
This apartment isn't very big, only a little over 90 square meters. Although it's a bit old, the heating is sufficient.
Chu Youting and Chu Jiuli live here. Their father works away from home most of the year and rarely comes back. Their living expenses are mostly sent via WeChat.
Much of the care and concern is limited to a few words on the screen.
At this moment, the two people, dressed in cartoon pajamas, stood in front of the bathroom mirror, brushing their teeth and chatting.
Chu Youting was wearing a thin short-sleeved nightgown; the soft fabric clung to her body, highlighting her slender and well-proportioned figure.
Chu Jiuli was dressed the same way, in the same short-sleeved pajamas, with the same long, slender legs.
The two stood in the well-heated bathroom, where the warm yellow light made their skin appear even whiter and brighter.
Chu Jiuli was brushing her teeth intently with her head down, while Chu Youting stood to the side, staring blankly at herself in the mirror.
She had shed her daytime disguise, loosened her hair, and taken off her glasses, revealing a face as beautiful as her sister's.
Her gaze unconsciously shifted to Chu Jiuli, who was brushing her teeth beside her, then fell back to her chest. A casual remark Zhang Muchen had made earlier that day at the supermarket while buying papayas flashed through her mind: "You don't need it."
Chu Youting's cheeks flushed instantly, and she quickly lowered her head to continue fiddling with her toothbrush, trying to hide her embarrassment. However, her eyes couldn't help but glance again at Chu Jiuli's beautiful figure.
"My sister is so well-developed, does that mean I... won't be any less so?"
Chu Youting muttered to herself in a low voice, her tone tinged with a lack of confidence.
Chu Jiuli spat out a mouthful of toothpaste foam, washed her toothbrush, and suddenly turned to look at Chu Youting, "Xiao You, my deskmate suddenly got better today."
"What illness is cured? What does that mean?"
"He took the initiative to make up with me tonight," Chu Jiuli said calmly.
"Oh."
Chu Youting looked down and fiddled with her toothbrush, thinking about Zhang Muchen's words at dinner that he wanted to apologize to her sister.
Chu Jiuli stared at herself in the mirror, wiping the foam from the corner of her mouth. "It's that guy you saw at the restaurant tonight. He didn't say anything to you afterwards, right?" Chu Youting's hand paused, and her heart started racing.
She lowered her head, pretending to tidy her pajamas, and shook her head. "No, I left after dinner."
"Yeah, stay away from him." Chu Jiuli nodded. "He's not a decent person."
Zhang Muchen: ? ? ?
Excuse me?
Zhang Muchen, who was sleeping at home, suddenly sneezed for no apparent reason.
Chu Youting: "Why do you say that? What's inappropriate about it?"
Chu Jiuli: "Not studying, not making progress."
In her value system, anyone who doesn't study hard or have a positive attitude is categorized as "unserious."
"Oh……"
Chu Youting brushed her teeth with her head down, her voice low, though she didn't quite agree with it.
"By the way, quite a few girls in the class like him." Chu Jiuli wiped the water off her face.
"Really?"
Chu Youting suddenly raised her head, a hint of panic flashing in her eyes.
"I heard it from Wang Shishi. But I heard he rejected them all, which is quite strange."
As she spoke, she kept squeezing out face wash, completely unaware of Chu Youting's slightly relaxed shoulders and relieved expression.
Chu Youting spat out the toothpaste foam, rinsed her mouth, and left the bathroom. She walked into the living room, where a full-length mirror stood in the corner.
Chu Youting stood in front of the full-length mirror and straightened her loose pajamas.
She seemed a little hesitant, bit her lower lip, and then gently lifted the hem of her pajamas, revealing her slender waistline.
Looking at herself in the mirror, Chu Youting's gaze slid from her chest to her waistline, and then to her long, straight legs. She then gently pressed her hand against the soft spot on her chest, as if carefully assessing something.
"It should be... alright, right?"
Chu Youting muttered to herself in a low voice, but her tone carried a hint of uncertainty.
At this moment, Chu Jiuli came out of the bathroom while drying her hair and saw Chu Youting standing in front of the full-length mirror in the living room, scrutinizing her figure.
"What's wrong, Xiaoyou?" Chu Jiuli stopped and asked.
"I feel like I've gone through puberty again."
Chu Youting's voice was so soft it was like a mosquito's buzz, her eyes fixed on the bulge in her chest.
Chu Jiuli was stunned for a moment, then leaned closer to the mirror and compared herself to Chu Youting. Although Chu Youting was a little shorter than her, her chest was fuller.
"It does seem to be."
Chu Jiuli nodded, a slight smile on her lips, "I wonder which boy will be lucky enough to be with you in the future."
As she spoke, she reached out and ruffled Chu Youting's hair, a rare hint of tenderness appearing on her usually cold face.
Chu Youting didn't answer, but her cheeks quickly flushed red, and she lowered her head, not daring to look directly at her sister.
“But not now.” Chu Jiuli’s voice suddenly turned serious. “If any boy gets close to you, I will definitely chase him away. Studying is the most important thing. Once you get into university, I won’t care about you anymore.”
"But...but there's still a year and a half until the college entrance exam..." Chu Youting said softly.
"A year and a half will pass quickly."
Chu Jiuli smiled, assuming that her younger sister was nervous because of the pressure of studying.
"Don't think too much, just focus on your studies. Your sister will always be there for you."
Chu Youting nodded gently, her voice barely audible: "Mm."
"Go to sleep early, you have to get up at 5:30 tomorrow for morning self-study."
Chu Jiuli pulled Chu Youting back to the room.
The two slept in one bed, while the next room was reserved for the father who occasionally came home.
They turned off the lights, and the room fell silent.
Chu Jiuli lay on her side and quickly fell asleep, her breathing becoming even and steady.
Chu Youting, however, could not fall asleep for a long time.
She stared at the ceiling, her mind a jumble of thoughts. After a while, she turned to the side and quietly observed the sleeping Chu Jiuli.
Once she was sure her sister was sound asleep, she carefully reached out and touched the blankets.
"Sure enough, mine is older than my sister's..."
Chu Youting's restless little hands touched Chu Jiuli's soft spots.
