Chapter 137 Blood Contract
Chapter 137 Blood Contract
As Hobbs walked out of the police station, he and his team boarded a helicopter. He was the leader of the action group, but he was always on the front line with his team, which earned him the love and respect of his team members and colleagues.
The plane quickly left New York and sped toward the northern border.
The team member handed Hobbs a file of intelligence. "Boss, this is Luca Greco's intelligence file. Although he's a member of the Mafia, he has a pretty good reputation and image with the New York authorities. He's cooperated with the police several times to solve cases and catch criminals."
"Are they using official power to eliminate their political opponents?"
Hobbs took the file and glanced at it. It recorded some of the incidents Luca had been involved in. Apart from the religious murder case, which was rather vague, the other cases were quite detailed, especially the capture of drug lord Frank. Luca was the one who persuaded Frank to confess in the end. Luca was also involved in the confession of the big boss of the Colombo family.
The muscular man glanced down and saw that they were all criminals whom Luca had helped the authorities apprehend.
And Simon, who is currently being pursued...
This left him somewhat taken aback.
That's interesting. Is this a case of the thief crying "stop thief"? They're being so enthusiastic about it.
As a member of the Diplomatic and Security Service, Hobbes's main activities were abroad, and he was less involved in domestic affairs. If it weren't for Simon being German and the special nature of the gold case, he wouldn't have gotten involved this time.
After staring at Luca's file for a long time, Hobbs smirked, thinking to himself that New York had produced a "good fellow".
The $1400 billion worth of gold involved the interests of too many people, and the official forces of most of New York State were mobilized. Under such a tight net, the truck convoy's whereabouts were quickly discovered.
Simon disguised himself as a legitimate team all the way, paying all the tolls and behaving very properly, so he didn't arouse any suspicion at first.
When he received the news that the police were on their way, he was devastated.
Fuck? How did those police catch up with us? Shouldn't they still be at sea salvaging non-existent gold? He deliberately created such a commotion at sea to divert the authorities' attention.
"The northern border has suddenly become more heavily guarded, and a large number of soldiers have been mobilized! They're just waiting for you to walk right into their trap!" came the message from the mercenaries guarding the border.
In addition, other informants along the route also reported that police in major cities along the way, such as Newburgh and Albany, had been mobilized to surround the convoy.
"Simon! They're after you! The convoy has been exposed!"
"These damn bastards!"
Simon was so angry he wanted to smash his phone. How could the official response be so fast?
Are they here to capture me? Or have they discovered that the gold isn't in the sea?
Did someone betray you?
Pigeons?!
But Pigeon never opened the cargo box from beginning to end. He probably didn't know what was inside the truck, nor did he have the ability to mobilize the entire New York State police force to intercept him.
Whether it's a pigeon or not, we'll find out by testing it.
Simon made a call with the utmost malice, not expecting the call to go through, but the result surprised him.
"You finished delivering the goods so quickly? That's very efficient," Luca joked. "I thought you were going to take a few more days."
Simon frowned. He couldn't make out anything wrong with what Luca said on the phone; it seemed the guy really wasn't clear on the situation.
If it wasn't a pigeon, how did this accident happen?
Simon grew increasingly frustrated. Ever since the gold was stolen, trouble had been piling up and he couldn't shake it off, often going beyond his plans.
Let's deal with the immediate problem first.
"Pigeon, I need some help right now. We can work together again, and I'm willing to pay extra!"
Albany, the capital of New York State.
Trucks passed by the gas station and drove into the underground parking lot of an auto repair shop.
Under the dim lights at the far end of the factory, he saw a middle-aged man with gray hair.
“Old Pigeon instructed me to wait for you here,” Jimmy stepped forward. “You can leave your goods here first, and then take them away after the police finish their search.”
"Put it here?" Simon frowned and stepped forward. "This is different from what Pigeon said. He said he would help me find a hidden route out of the United States!"
“But not now.” Jimmy shook his head. “There are police everywhere outside right now, and the border crossings are much tighter, checking every vehicle coming and going. Under these circumstances, your goods simply can’t get out!”
"Is it safe to leave it here?" Simon questioned. "The police will find this place sooner or later!"
"It's safe here for now. We need to get you a new batch of trucks; the old ones are no longer usable."
Whoosh! Lights shone above Jimmy's head, illuminating the rows of trucks behind him.
Jimmy calmly said, "But before that, Ruby, you need to explain clearly what you're transporting and why so many police officers are chasing you. If it's too troublesome, Old Pigeon will consider giving up."
Revealing they were transporting gold? Who knows what other schemes these mafia might have up their sleeves! Simon's mind raced with uncertainty. "I need to see Old Pigeon first!"
Simon didn't reveal anything to Jimmy until Luca arrived at the scene.
Upon seeing Luca, Simon remained deeply conflicted. He and his twenty or thirty mercenary companions watched as Luca, dressed in black, approached the truck.
Lyon followed behind him.
Under the tense gaze of a group of mercenaries, Luca tapped the surface of the cargo container with the back of his hand. "Ruber, I really didn't expect that a single shipment would cause such a huge mess in New York. Do you know how many people are after you? The entire New York State police, the FBI, agents from the Diplomatic Security Service, even the military are involved! They've laid a trap, not letting a single fly escape!" Luca stared at Simon's face. "Now it's time for us to be honest, Mr. Ruber? Or should I call you Simon, the brave man who made that bold statement on the radio about blasting gold into the sea? If I'm not mistaken, these trucks are all filled with gold."
As soon as he finished speaking, the atmosphere on the scene suddenly became tense. Many mercenaries gripped their guns tightly, ready to engage in a fierce battle at the boss's command.
Simon didn't give the order. If a fight breaks out here, it will definitely attract attention, and then we really can't leave tonight.
Luca remained fearless: "If the police hadn't made such a big move tonight, I wouldn't have connected the gold with your goods."
Simon narrowed his eyes. Now that things had come to this, there was no point in denying it. "I fooled everyone in New York, but in the end, I still failed. Those useless cops in New York and the federal government's incompetent enforcement only become so efficient when they suffer significant losses. You know my identity and information, so it seems you have quite a few connections in the police and the FBI?"
Luca remained noncommittal: "I have friends all over New York. If I want to know, there's nothing I don't know. I have $1400 billion in gold right here with me. You asked me to help you move so much gold out of the United States, but you only offered me a few million dollars to get rid of me. Simon, is this how you treat your friends?"
I knew this would be the outcome. Simon had even considered that Luca would kill him and the others here and then steal all the gold, but he had already prepared a set of arguments to persuade Luca, and judging from Luca's attitude, it seemed that he did not want to take action.
"I can share half with you!"
Simon's heart was bleeding, but he tried his best to remain calm and said, "On the condition that you help me successfully leave the United States with my share of gold."
Luca sneered, "Kill you, and all this gold will be mine."
Simon cursed under his breath for being a greedy bastard, then delivered his prepared statement, "Pigeon, if you help me, you're helping yourself! The police are after me now, and they might even issue a global warrant for my arrest in the future. I'll become the target and enemy of the entire United States, and they'll focus all their attention on me!"
You, however, don't have these worries. With me openly drawing global attention, you can secretly enjoy this wealth. If you try to monopolize this gold, you'll face the pursuit of the entire United States! Cooperating with me is the most advantageous choice for you!
Luca couldn't help but chuckle inwardly. If he really wanted to embezzle the gold, this might be a passable way to cooperate. However, it would also hand over some of the initiative to Simon. Luca rejected this approach; he had already chosen another path.
It's impossible for this gold to be taken out of the United States.
Simon wouldn't be able to leave the United States alive either.
But a look of hesitation and contemplation appeared on his face, as if he were really considering Simon's suggestion. He took out an Oreo and ate it. Luca questioned, "How do I know you won't betray me? Let me share the American firepower with you?"
"I have this."
Under Luca's astonished gaze, Simon produced a palm-sized golden disc.
A blood pact?!
Luca's brow twitched. Good heavens, you actually pulled this thing out?
Blood Pact, the strictest contract on the High Table. In short, contractor A asks B for help and hands over the Blood Pact. In the future, B can use the Blood Pact to ask A for help.
—Once a blood pact is established, it cannot be violated or refused unless the contractor dies; otherwise, the contractor will be executed by the High Table and face global persecution by the High Table.
Even someone like Night Demon, who had gained an unfair advantage, couldn't bear the consequences; he was destined to die. In the original storyline, Night Demon's death can be attributed to a chain reaction triggered by a blood pact.
Simon, the leader of an international mercenary organization, often mingles in the underworld, so it's not surprising that he could pull out this thing. What surprises Luca is that Simon is willing to hand over a blood pact to bind himself to him.
Handing over this thing is like handing over half your life.
“It represents my sincerity.” Simon took a deep breath. “Pigeon, now you should have no worries, right?”
Soon after, a fleet of brand-new tanker trucks drove out of the auto repair shop, then split into several convoys and headed in different directions.
On one of the tanker trucks, Luca and Simon were heading northeast in New York State.
Although they changed vehicles, they were still stopped by a police patrol when leaving Albany. The police insisted on inspecting the cargo inside the vehicle and refused to let them pass.
But what else could a tanker truck carrying oil contain besides a dark expanse of oil?
The car left Albany without incident.
“Pigeon, you’re a genius,” Simon exclaimed. “Who would have thought to hide gold in oil? They’d have to pour out all the oil to find the gold at the bottom.”
Luca smiled faintly: "I told you, only I can help you leave the United States smoothly."
Simon shook his head and chuckled, having to admire Luca's move.
"If I had known you were this capable, the first thing I did when I came to New York would have been to visit you," Simon thought to himself, instead of going to see that idiot Gallo.
"Because people only see who is still standing by their side after experiencing some setbacks."
Simon sighed with regret. Who would have thought that the owners of the trucks he stole would eventually lend a helping hand?
He took out the Blood Pact, opened the lid, used the barb inside to cut his thumb, and pressed a bloody fingerprint on one side.
"Pigeon, the moment I leave America, the blood pact will be yours. We can have it notarized at the Continental Hotel in Canada."
