Chapter 289 Ambush and Spy Killing
Chapter 289 Ambush and Spy Killing
A number of Nightguard players have already gathered outside the Dream Portal in Meteor Town.
They waited for the target to appear, preparing to escort the inexperienced newcomer. After all, publicly posting coordinates in the world chat could easily attract probing and hunting from opposing factions.
"Is that him?"
"I think I'm right, I saw someone I know."
A commotion arose among the surrounding players. [The Hermit of the Ferry Bird] looked in the direction of the sound and saw a tall, cloaked figure, like a winter pine tree covered in snow. He was surrounded by companions of various appearances and colorful equipment. They were escorted by a powerful guard of soldiers. The group strolled over, chatting and laughing.
[The Hermit of the Ferry Bird]'s gaze lingered on the spherical movement in Lin Bo's hand. Movements of this size were often produced by the offspring of leaders.
"Did he do it?" [The Hermit of the Ferry Bird] couldn't help but squint, as if the thin red light still lingered on his retina, causing a faint phantom pain.
As Lin Bo approached, the murmurs ceased. Everyone stared at the person they were preparing to escort.
“You must be the Lighthouse Keeper?” A bard greeted him with a smile. “It’s great to meet you in person. We’re here to help with the errands and make sure you get to the Temple of Enlightenment safely.”
Lin Bo patted his chest and bowed, saying, "Thank you all for your help."
"Sure thing, buddy." "No problem at all." "You're a straightforward guy, let's go, brother." The players returned the greetings one after another.
The druid [I really want to eat meat] sent a private message to the mage in the private chat channel, reminding him to be careful of these strangers, as there might be players from the opposing faction lurking there.
The main city of the Abomination faction is located within the Dream of the Divine Abominations. They plan to travel through the Dream Realm to the Temple of Enlightenment, and they are almost certain to be attacked along the way. Infiltrated spy players will undoubtedly tip them off.
Each faction has one or more temporary team-up channels. Lin Bo was also invited to join the team. The Night Guard faction has the fewest members because the questline is not very attractive and the benefits are poor. The total number of members in the team is 425.
Now, the escorts gathered around him number nearly thirty players, a rather impressive lineup.
Lin Bo handed his specially made identity card to the staff of Meteor Town and received a teleportation ticket, just like a subway card.
Players on the cross-network did not need to undergo strict security checks and were allowed to pass directly. Lin Bo and his team arrived at the portal. The watery light membrane was a two-dimensional spatial rift, only having length and width, and it could not be seen from the side.
The spacetime on both sides of the rift is exchanging matter. The dream world is overflowing with the power of the god-evil Kunkas. The twisted magical energy smells like a chemical mixture of aromatic hydrocarbons and acetone, and also has the warm feeling of overripe fruit fermenting and rotting.
As expected, these demonic powers murmured corrupt words that evoked a twisted nature.
Lin Bo listened quietly. These faint sounds echoed within the barrier of his mind, yet could not reach the hidden spiritual realm.
They chanted coldly, repeating the god-like Kunkas's definition of abundance, constantly breaking down the boundaries between life and non-life, causing steel to sprout stamens and bear engine fruit, turning fuel into sweet rain, and bringing down fiery rain, painting spring with colorful spray paint.
Lin Bo was quite curious about this creation technique.
The steel dragon mechanism in his hand was a creation of Quincas. It contained not electrons, but divine and demonic energy, like a living spirit residing in the chip, possessing excellent computing power and thinking ability.
This ability to sculpt magical energy and imbue it with intelligence is an excellent reference for him in forging spirits and gods.
"Let's go, let's go!" the player in front shouted, stepping into the portal as if passing through a mirror and entering another dimension.
Lin Bo followed his teammates, stepping across the rift. The cold wind howled even more fiercely. Looking around, he realized that this was the main battlefield base camp of Meteor Town. The winter night was bitterly cold, and no stars or moon could be seen when he looked up. The sky was a dark green like old-fashioned glass, and silent lightning surged in the snow-covered clouds. Those were not real thunderbolts, but rather the thoughts surging within the god-like Kunkas.
The mage looked up at the lightning, which spoke in a corrupted language and was intertwined with necromancy, just as he had once sensed the psychic glint in the eyes of [Heartbreaker], where dragon language was intertwined with the language of Gudorei.
Thoughts also have a voice, speaking in Gudorei or Necromancer language. This voice cannot be captured without specific sensory abilities or means.
Lin Bo listened carefully and heard Kunkas's chaotic ramblings. It seemed that the gods from beyond the heavens had woven a beautiful dream for it. Most of these murmurs were satisfactory, with only a few sharp and urgent sounds.
“Child of Power…danger…Ancient Saint…must be eliminated, obliterated…must not be allowed to come into contact with him…continue to digest, feed, suck, strip, devour…”
The mage suddenly realized why Kunkas saw him as a thorn in his side.
This divine abomination is still absorbing the power of the Earth Goddess, and it does not want to be disturbed by unexpected factors.
"What are you looking at, Mage? The sky in the Dream Realm is weird, isn't it?" The cat-man priest smiled with narrowed eyes, his tone like that of an enthusiastic tour guide.
"It is indeed strange, but it's quite convenient," Lin Bo replied with a smile.
The mercenaries on the network also have their own gathering places in the battlefield base camp, where merchants, enchanters, alchemists, blacksmiths and other players who enjoy life also set up stalls.
Locals call this area "Stranger Town," where the nine battlefield headquarters are located, making it a popular tourist destination. These powerful individuals from the multiverse, while appreciating the sights and sounds of different worlds, also become part of the local scenery. Many players store their vehicles in the Stranger Town's warehouses. When traveling in the Dream Realm, the best vehicles are hovercraft, while the safest route is to fly close to the ground.
Lin Bo walked along the snow-covered street, looking at the player shops on both sides, selling all kinds of goods, decorating the bustling atmosphere. Even in the winter night, it made people feel as warm as sitting by a fireplace.
"Want a ride in my car, Mage?" The druid drove a boxy flying car out of the warehouse. It was covered with bulletproof armor plates, which were also enchanted, so that it could withstand more intense attacks without crashing.
The cat-person pastor rode an anti-gravity motorcycle with its handlebars pointing high and its bright gold and red paint job featuring sun and flames. Wearing a helmet and goggles, and sporting a twitching mustache, she grinned and said, "Your bike is so slow. I'll clear the way for you."
The druid clasped his hands in a gesture of respect. Lin Bo opened the passenger door; the car had a space-expanding spell, so even someone of his size didn't feel cramped inside.
He looked around but couldn't see the seatbelt, so he silently formed a sword-finger seal.
The half-elf driver floored the accelerator, and the flying car roared with a realistic engine sound, suddenly leaping into the air like a swordfish bursting from the water. Outside the window, the escort vehicles followed closely like thirty shooting stars.
Twelve kilometers outside the Meteor Town base camp, a group of players from the Abomination faction had been waiting for some time.
"Our informant reports that the 'goods' are on their way. Get ready."
A necromancer mingled in the group and quietly opened the private chat interface.
[Sewing Master]: Brother Mage, there's an ambush. I'm with the first group, there are forty-six in total, the highest level is a level 17 sorcerer. The offspring faction brought out ten boss monsters, be careful.
[Lighthouse Guest]: Thank you.
[Sewing Craftsman]: Mage, please take me away! I don't want to follow this evil spirit anymore! (crying)
After secretly passing on the message, the necromancer glanced around, then silently retreated behind the group. Leaving behind a phantom clone disguised as a corpse, he vanished without a trace and quietly escaped the area.
Inside the flying car, Lin Bo sat calmly, took out a volcanic ash pill from the inside pocket of his trench coat and swallowed it, then slowly drank a cup of plasma from the Ming Lei lantern.
The azure ocean magic surged within his cells, constantly interacting and merging with his mind and consciousness. Lin Bo could sense that beneath his immortal body, another form was being conceived. This being within a body was the spirit.
The druid caught a glimpse of the mage drinking an incandescent blue liquid. He was about to ask what kind of special drink it was when he suddenly realized that the hairs on his head and body were standing on end due to static electricity.
So he quietly cancelled his plan to ask for a drink to try.
The environment of the dream world is like a projection of the real world, with vast fields and many cities scattered throughout.
But all the scenery is forcibly pieced together like jigsaw puzzle fragments, architectural styles from all over the country appear in the same area, and houses of varying heights are forcibly connected together.
Treehouses and concrete apartments are spliced together in half, and warehouse roofs are punctured by signal towers. Within a few kilometers, it's an eternal winter night, but right next door, it's a rainy day with blazing sun. Architecture, nature, climate—everything is out of place; a bizarre and discordant irrationality is the underlying character of this place.
The Dream Realm is a demiplane that seals away the divine abominations, and it is also affected by Kunkas's chaotic thoughts.
Lin Bo stretched his hand out the window, letting the wind, sand, rain, and snowflakes gradually brush across his palm. Through the star-shaped steel structure, he listened to the whispers of all things.
"That's about enough." He suddenly stopped the group. "You all stay here and wait for me."
The druid stopped the car as instructed, and his old teammates landed one after another, while the other players were quite puzzled.
Lin Bo left the movement and the little seagull in the car, put on his hood, and used his condensed magic to conceal his appearance as a mage and the true name of his cloak.
In everyone's eyes, the monk disappeared into thin air like ripples on water.
"He went invisible? Where did he go?"
Two kilometers away, on a sparsely populated shipping route, the area was dimly lit, and players from the underground network lay in ambush, waiting for their prey to come to them.
A long sonic boom echoed from the distant sky.
"Fighter jets or artillery shells?" a spellcaster asked.
“There’s probably a fight going on,” a barbarian replied.
"I don't know why, but I have a bad feeling, like something is watching me." A wandering swordsman looked around anxiously.
The sorcerer, who worshipped the demon lord, began to rally the troops, when suddenly he heard the devil's anxious warning: "Something's wrong! Your fate line has suddenly snapped!"
The next instant, before everyone's eyes, a streak of blood-red light flashed through the air, slender and dazzling, like the rainbow trail left by a comet breaking through the sky, lightly brushing past the sorcerer's head.
he died.
