Chapter 222 Upgrading the Management Architecture
Chapter 222 Upgrading the Management Architecture
Outside the general manager's office on the 16th floor of Building B, Yuancheng Building.
Zhou Yumeng sat at her 16-square-meter, fully functional and well-organized personal secretary's workstation.
Taking advantage of the moment when no one was around, she skillfully popped a gummy bear into her mouth, her cheeks puffing out slightly, while her eyes warily scanned the elevator lobby and the door to the general manager's office.
For Zhou Yumeng, one of the happiest things about moving to the new building was that she no longer had to live in fear that the elusive "Manager Mi" would suddenly appear from some corner and sneak into President Chen's office to give "one-on-one attention" to the valuable "golden pendant".
Those precious fish in President Chen's office are finally safe!
"Ding!"
With a crisp beep, the doors of the high-speed elevator reserved for executives slowly opened.
Zhou Yumeng's heart tightened, and almost reflexively, she quickly swallowed the gummy bear she hadn't chewed much, tidied her not-too-messy desk and clothes, and instantly switched back to her professional and composed secretary mode.
When she saw that it was Gong Yun carrying a stack of documents who stepped out of the elevator, her tense nerves immediately relaxed, she patted her chest gently, and let out a long sigh of relief.
"Oh, it's you, Sister Gong! I was so scared just now, I thought some customer had suddenly come up without saying hello!"
Gong Yun couldn't help but smile at her appearance. She stepped forward and gently poked her forehead, her tone filled with a mixture of doting and helplessness.
"You! You're already Mr. Chen's secretary, in charge of the 'face' of this sixteenth floor, yet you're still so irresponsible. What will you do if an important client sees you sneaking snacks?"
A blush crept across Zhou Yumeng's face, and she quickly changed the subject: "Sister Gong, please don't tease me. Did you come here to see President Chen about something?"
Gong Yun nodded, her expression returning to a somewhat formal tone.
"Yes, I'd like to report to Mr. Chen on the adjustments to personnel and management structure since the company's relocation here. Is now a convenient time for you, Mr. Chen?"
"Okay, Sister Gong, please wait a moment, I'll inform them right away!"
Zhou Yumeng immediately got to work, picked up the internal landline, and skillfully dialed Chen Mo's office number, her voice clear and respectful.
"Mr. Chen, Manager Gong Yun is here to report on the company's organizational restructuring. Okay, understood!"
She put down the phone and gave Gong Yun a professional smile.
"Sister Gong, Mr. Chen invites you in!"
In the general manager's office.
Chen Mo was sitting behind the large walnut wood desk, his gaze shifting from the computer screen to Gong Yun as she walked in.
He pointed to the chair opposite the desk, his tone casual yet friendly: "Sister Gong, pull up a chair and sit down, then tell me in detail!"
As the company continues to grow, the original management structure has gradually become inadequate to meet business needs and has fallen short in terms of overall efficiency.
More importantly, only by establishing clear career advancement paths for employees and allowing everyone to see room for growth can we better stimulate the team's enthusiasm and vitality.
"Okay Mr. Chen!"
Gong Yun responded, skillfully moved a chair over, sat down opposite Chen Mo, then gently tidied the documents in her hand on the table and began to report in an orderly manner.
"Mr. Chen, the company has moved to the Yuancheng Building and is now completely settled."
Taking this opportunity, we also conducted a comprehensive review and upgrade of Orange Technology's existing organizational structure to adapt to our current size of 500 people and the needs of future rapid business development.
This is the detailed configuration plan.
She opened the folder and began to explain each item one by one.
I. Adjustment of the core management chain:
We follow the management hierarchy of 'General Manager → Department Manager → Team Leader → Employee' and have upgraded the original 'Supervisor' title in each department to 'Department Manager'.
This is not a simple name change; its purpose is to strengthen the coordination capabilities and responsibilities of department heads, and to better match our current management efficiency needs.
After the adjustment, we promoted a large number of middle-level management backbones, with priority given to the 54 members of the core team of Orange Grain!
II. The detailed configuration of each department is as follows:
(I) Technical Department (150 people)
Jiang Yu was appointed as the department manager (upgraded from the original technical supervisor).
The technology department now covers the entire technology research and development chain for smartphones.
Divided into three groups:
Software Team (40 people, team leader Li Zhe): mainly responsible for the iteration of Orange OS system, including underlying framework optimization, 4G adaptation, as well as development, testing and operation and maintenance support.
Hardware Group (60 people, group leader Zhang Lei): Focuses on hardware design and optimization, covering motherboard, RF, heat dissipation, PCB design and rigorous sample testing.
Design Team (50 people, led by Su Man): Responsible for overall device ID design, UI/UX interaction, and CMF (color, material, and process) research.
(II) Marketing Department (165 people)
The department manager is still Zhao Tiezhu.
Its core functions are sales channel expansion, e-commerce operation, supply chain coordination, and warehousing material control.
It is divided into four groups:
Operations Team (25 people, team leader Song Kaixuan): Responsible for e-commerce platform operation, SEO, advertising and content planning.
Channel Team (85 people, team leader Wang Haocun): This is the main team, responsible for directly operated stores, strong distributors in North China, key accounts (KA) of operators, and advertising production and business development.
Supply Chain Management Team (30 people, team leader Chen Xibai): Responsible for core material procurement, cost accounting and supplier quality control.
Warehouse Team (25 people, Team Leader Zhao Yangjie): Reorganized from the warehouse management section of the original Zhicheng centralized procurement department, responsible for warehousing, QC, and material planning.
(III) Finance Department (35 people)
The department manager is Shi Xin (promoted from the former head of the finance group in the logistics department).
The finance department has now been separated from the logistics department, and its core function is to be fully responsible for the company's financial accounting, taxation, budgeting, cash flow and internal control.
It has six subgroups, including cost accounting, taxation, cashier, financial analysis, budget management and internal control.
(iv) Logistics Department (105 people)
I am the department manager.
After the finance function became independent, the core function of the logistics department is to provide basic operational support such as administration, human resources, customer service, logistics and security.
It is divided into five groups:
Administrative Team (15 people)
Human Resources Team (20 people)
Customer service team (30 people)
Logistics Team (20 people)
Security team (20 people), including the general manager's special agents.
(v) Legal Department (15 people)
Department Manager Lin Junfeng.
Its core functions are intellectual property, handling legal disputes, and supporting overseas mergers and acquisitions.
It has three groups: a patent group, a legal group, and a newly added business group, which are specifically responsible for due diligence and agreement negotiations for overseas mergers and acquisitions.
(vi) Market Research Department (30 people)
Department Manager Wang Kai.
Its core functions are market insight, supply chain research, compliance risk control, and channel inspection.
It has four subgroups: a market research group, a newly established compliance group, a newly established inspection group (responsible for internal and external compliance inspections), and an employee care group.
After Gong Yun finished her report, she closed the folder and summarized, "President Chen, that's how the overall organizational structure adjustment is done!"
The main changes included clarifying responsibilities and strengthening management positions. In addition, based on business development, new functions such as the legal and business team, market research and compliance team, and inspection team were added, in order to better support the company's next stage of expansion.
Chen Mo listened quietly, his fingers tapping rhythmically on the table as he digested this more refined and professional management structure.
He nodded, his eyes showing approval: "Yes, Sister Gong, your management structure is very clear, and the division of labor is more specific and professional!" What Chen Mo didn't say was that financial independence and strengthening the compliance inspection functions of legal and market research departments were particularly necessary.
"Let's proceed with this plan and get all departments adapted to the new structure and responsibilities as quickly as possible!"
"Okay, Mr. Chen!" Gong Yun replied crisply, knowing that the report had been approved, and that the company's basic structure was now set!
With the new company management structure in place, Gong Yun, holding the folder, didn't rush to leave. Instead, she consulted Chen Mo about two important matters before the Lunar New Year.
"President Chen, the New Year is just around the corner. What do you think of this year's year-end bonus distribution standards?" Gong Yun got straight to the point.
Chen Mo looked up from a technical document, thought for a moment, and waved his hand, saying, "As for the year-end bonus, Sister Gong, you can refer to last year's standards and take into account the performance of each department this year. I trust your judgment!"
As expected, Gong Yun nodded, noted it down, and then asked another question.
"What about the year-end party? We couldn't have one last year because of all sorts of things happening at the company. What do you think about this year?"
Upon hearing this, Chen Mo frowned slightly, subconsciously feeling that the year-end party was a bit too formalistic. Orange Technology wasn't an internet company, so there was no need for all this fancy stuff!
Gong Yun saw through his thoughts and patiently explained.
"Mr. Chen, I understand that you feel this might be a bit of a formality."
But to be honest, annual meetings are now a very important part of building company culture.
Especially as our company grows larger, the number of sister companies in the Orange Group is also increasing.
Regularly organizing large-scale team-building activities like this, allowing everyone to get together, have fun, and recognize outstanding members, is really helpful in enhancing cohesion and a sense of belonging!
Chen Mo pondered for a moment and felt that what Sister Gong said made sense.
An upwardly mobile team does need some sense of ritual to unite its members.
He nodded and made a decision: "Alright! Let's do it! And let's make it a big, big event! Let all the companies in our Orange Group system, as well as our important partners, participate!"
"Mr. Chen!"
Gong Yun hesitated for a moment, then gently reminded her.
"Yuancheng currently has nearly 4 employees, plus Chengke in Chongqing, as well as Chengbao, Chengjia, Zhicheng, and Chengchuang. Adding all of that together, the number of people and the space they occupy is probably enormous."
Chen Mo smiled and waved his hand: "Sister Gong! I didn't explain it clearly!"
The annual meeting was mainly attended by employees of Orange Technology.
For sister companies like Yuancheng and Chengke, let their senior executives lead teams with this year's outstanding employee representatives to participate. It will give them an opportunity to exchange ideas and experience the atmosphere of head office!
Gong Yun breathed a sigh of relief and smiled, "This arrangement makes much more sense!"
"Perfect timing! This is also the first large-scale cross-departmental collaboration activity after the new organizational restructuring of Orange Technology. It can test the operational efficiency and collaborative capabilities of our new structure!"
"Yes, that's good. We can rectify any unsuitable management structures promptly!" Chen Mo agreed. "Sister Gong, you take the lead on the specifics!"
As soon as Chen Mo gave the order to prepare for the annual meeting, Gong Yun immediately got to work.
She first went to the shared conference room on the 11th floor and convened a brief kick-off meeting with all members of the Logistics Department's administrative team.
"President Chen has approved it. This year, Orange Technology will be holding a large-scale year-end party!" Gong Yun said bluntly.
"President Chen's instructions were very clear: do not pursue anything fancy, the core is to be pragmatic and lively."
The format involves everyone enjoying the dinner while an awards ceremony for outstanding employees and a ceremony for the appointment and promotion of senior executives are held simultaneously on stage.
We want to host a warm and honorable family dinner, not a flashy but empty show.
The members of the administrative team immediately understood the message, and team leader Lin Xiao expressed their support on behalf of everyone.
"Don't worry, Mr. Gong, we understand! We will immediately begin to develop a detailed plan, including site selection, budget planning, process design, material procurement, and internal mobilization."
"Good!" Gong Yun nodded in satisfaction: "This annual meeting is a test for our new organizational structure. As the leading department, the administrative team must play a pivotal role and efficiently coordinate resources from all parties!"
Once the task was assigned, the entire Orange Technology team, like a sophisticated machine, began to operate efficiently around the annual meeting.
Internal Mobilization and Information Hub (Administrative Group):
The executive team immediately posted a pre-announcement of the annual meeting on the intranet and began screening suitable hotel venues and comparing menus and prices.
They designed beautiful electronic invitations and a draft of the annual meeting agenda, while simultaneously counting the number of attendees within Orange Technology and planning the seating chart.
External Liaison and Guest Invitation (Secretary + Marketing Department):
Following Gong Yun's instructions, the task of inviting senior executives and outstanding employee representatives from other companies in the Orange Group (Yuancheng, Chengke, Chengbao, Chengjia, Zhicheng, and Chengchuang) was reported to Zhou Yumeng, the general manager's secretary.
Zhou Yumeng immediately contacted the general manager's office of each company through formal emails and phone calls, sending out invitations and collecting feedback lists to ensure that no important guests were missed.
The task of inviting representatives from key partners fell to the marketing department.
Colleagues from the channel and supply chain teams sprang into action, contacting key personnel in North China, direct sales channels, and core suppliers, sincerely inviting them to attend the Orange Group's year-end gala, using this opportunity to solidify their cooperative relationships.
Establishing an honor system (HR team + all departments):
The personnel group of the logistics department became one of the busiest departments at the beginning of this year.
Based on annual performance results, they need to collaborate with department managers to quickly and fairly select a list of outstanding employee candidates.
Awards such as "Technology Pioneer," "Market Vanguard," and "Service Star" are given, and custom trophies, certificates, and bonuses are designed and customized.
At the same time, the formalization of executive appointment documents and the ceremony procedures also require them to verify with the legal department.
Technical and Creative Support (Technology Department + Marketing Department Content Planning):
Although the engineers in the technical department did not directly lead the preparations, they also contributed their efforts.
The software team quickly set up a special page for the annual meeting on the intranet to publish the latest news and vote for the "most popular program".
The UI/UX designers in the design team showcased their skills, creating a consistent visual style for the main visual poster, stage backdrop, invitations, and all materials for the annual meeting, ensuring the brand tone of Orange Technology.
The content planners in the marketing department, led by team leader Song Kaixuan, worked together.
We began brainstorming ideas for the opening video script, award speeches, and interactive segments of the annual meeting, striving to increase fun and appeal while adhering to Chen Mo's requirement of "practicality."
Logistics Support and Security Support (Other Groups in the Logistics Department):
The logistics team began planning the transportation and storage of materials for the annual meeting.
The security team intervened in advance to assess the security plan for the annual meeting and to arrange personnel to be responsible for maintaining order and providing support for key leaders.
In no time, Orange Technology's internal communication group was flooded with messages, and cross-departmental coordination meetings were held one after another.
Engineers who were originally focused on technology, marketing staff who planned marketing strategies, finance colleagues who calculated data, and legal specialists who handled legal documents were all originally in their respective positions.
At this moment, everyone is working closely together towards the same goal: "to successfully host the first annual meeting of the Orange Group."
When Chen Mo came downstairs to inspect the office area, he could see that although the employees were busy, they all had a bit of anticipation and excitement on their faces, and the atmosphere of discussing the annual meeting program and guessing the list of winners was quietly spreading.
A slight smile played on his lips as he gained a more intuitive understanding of Gong Yun's words about "testing the new structure" and "enhancing cohesion."
For Orange, the significance of this annual meeting goes far beyond the party itself. It is not only a concentrated showcase of the team's combat effectiveness, but also an important opportunity for the various companies under the Orange Group to achieve smooth cooperation and upgrade relationships.
Chen Mo didn't want the companies in the Orange Group to operate independently; he hoped they could cooperate sincerely and unite against external threats!
Orange's journey to becoming a top company officially begins with this annual meeting!
