Chapter 40 Adult World
Chapter 40 Adult World
On the street outside the park, Zhang Wenda looked up in disbelief at all the flesh-colored buildings in front of him, at the eyes and arms in those towering structures.
Those eyes are still moving, those chests are still moving—they are alive! Yet these living, breathing people are used as casually as building materials.
What shocked Zhang Wenda even more was that the city not only contained prefabricated humans of normal size, but also prefabricated giants that were twice or even several times larger than normal humans!
These giants looked exceptionally large and powerful, but no matter how big they grew or how formidable they appeared, their ultimate fate was to become building materials; they were simply the only difference in the number of materials they could replace.
The scene before him left him stunned; everything that defied the logic of physics was completely beyond his comprehension.
He stood there stunned for a long time, until he felt Song Jianguo biting his own finger, and then he realized what was happening.
He quickly took two steps back, his gaze shifting from the distant high-rise buildings to the people on the roadside.
On the bustling street, everyone except Zhang Wenda stared calmly at their phones, as if these high-rise buildings constructed by living people were nothing out of the ordinary.
They are called human, but not all of them are human. In addition to the obviously stiff prefabricated people and ordinary-looking people, there are all kinds of strange pseudo-humans with different appearances on the streets.
There were lion dance heads dressed in suits, television heads dressed in long skirts, and even drone heads dressed in Tang suits floating in the air.
Some have seven or eight eyes on their chests, some have muscular heads on their bald heads, and some have tentacles covering their eyes.
Zhang Wenda was overwhelmed by the sheer number of people he saw; the adult world is full of all sorts of oddballs.
The only thing they had in common was that they all had some kind of shackles and chains on them, some around their necks and some around their feet.
Zhang Wenda stared at them with wide eyes, but they seemed oblivious to each other's presence.
"This...this is the adult world? Is this really the adult world?" Zhang Wenda swallowed hard, his heart pounding.
"Calm down, calm down." Zhang Wenda took several deep breaths to calm himself down.
"It's okay, it's alright. It's just a bizarre world. It's not like we haven't seen strange things before. Don't make a fuss. I can handle it."
He retreated back into the park, sat on the roots of a large tree, closed his eyes, and slowly began to calm himself down.
"Are all of these fake? Or were the ones before fake?" he wondered to himself.
"No, maybe they're all real, it's just that adults and children see things from different perspectives, but the problem is, they're all so different! What's going on with this awful place?!"
After calming down for a while, Zhang Wenda rolled up his sleeves and looked at his forearm, trying to check the new ability he had just acquired.
Compared to others, he still cares more about himself.
What happened next made his pupils shrink slightly. His forearm was covered with scars, but none of them were yellow or red!
"What the heck?! Where are my special abilities? Where are my red and yellow cores?" Zhang Wenda rolled up his other sleeve to look, but they weren't there either on his other arm.
"Could it be... that I'm going back again and never going back?" Zhang Wenda's heart skipped a beat. The thought made him feel very complicated, and he couldn't tell whether it was a good thing or a bad thing.
Fortunately, when he carefully examined his hands, he finally saw red and yellow numbers on the dial of his black mechanical watch.
The red 0 and the yellow 11 are reproduced on the digital dial.
When Zhang Wenda saw the yellow 11 slowly jump to 10, he breathed a sigh of relief. "Thank goodness." The yellow cores were gradually decreasing, and based on the red cores, he should be able to go back once the yellow cores reached 0.
It was obvious that the abilities of the yellow core he had just acquired were completely different from those of the red core.
If the red core's ability is to provide energy for its own body and flashlight, then the yellow core allows it to enter a completely new perspective.
From this perspective, the monsters become prefabricated humans, and Song Jianguo becomes a black cat.
He didn't know what was going on or where the yellow core's abilities came from, but for the time being, it was still within his comprehension.
However, just as he breathed a sigh of relief, his finger suddenly stung again.
"Hiss!" Zhang Wenda pulled back his bleeding finger and tapped the little black cat on the head in his arms.
"What are you doing? Don't bite me! It hurts!"
But just then, Zhang Wenda realized why Song Jianguo had reminded him. Not far away, the elderly men and women who were exercising in the park surrounded him again with unfriendly expressions, carrying newspapers and canes.
He glanced at the lush green park and thought to himself, "I can't stay here any longer. I need to get out of here first."
Thinking of this, Zhang Wenda picked up the little black cat and walked out through the exit on the left.
Once again, Zhang Wenda stopped in that bizarre and wonderful world.
He no longer needs to think about how strange the adult world is; he now needs to think about his own safety.
Although he is safe for now, it doesn't mean he will be safe once he turns back to normal; he needs to leave the library first.
However, the question he needs to think about now is: he can't see the library, so how does he get out?
All around him looked like a road, but Zhang Wenda knew that from another perspective, he was still inside the library, and those few steps wouldn't get him to the exit.
If they were still wandering around the library while the yellow core's energy was depleted, then things would be in big trouble.
After taking another look at the reduction time of the yellow core, I made a simple estimate and the 10 above should be about 10 minutes.
After thinking for a while, Zhang Wenda suddenly came up with a solution. Although he couldn't see the library due to his changed perspective, Song Jianguo could.
He bent down and put Song Jianguo down, then gently pushed her. "Jianguo, let's go, let's leave the library while no one's around."
To avoid any ambiguity in his words due to the change in perspective, Zhang Wenda even gestured to Song Jianguo twice more with body language.
Whether Song Jianguo understood or not, she tilted her head and murmured twice before starting to hop forward.
As Zhang Wenda walked, he looked around. Every moment, something new appeared before his eyes. He even saw something flying in the sky, but he was sure it was not an airplane.
Compared to the previous environment, which blended various eras, this place clearly has a much higher level of technology. It's more like the world he came from before, a highly abstracted version of the real world.
