Chapter 61 The Gathering at Huadong Railway Station

Chapter 61 The Gathering at Huadong Railway Station (1)

June 15th, night.

In the waiting hall of Huadong Bus Station in An'nan City.

A blackboard hangs above the iron bars of the ticket window, with the names of the starting and ending cities written on it in white chalk.

Buses from Annam to various districts have stopped running, with the last bus departing at 9 p.m.

Handwriting classes depart from An'nan City to Qinyang, the provincial capital, as well as to other cities outside the province.

By this time, there were only a few people left in the waiting hall.

Two men sat on a row of green hard plastic seats, with a Type 91 satchel, commonly known as a military satchel, at their feet.

Wu Dayong raised his head and looked at the quartz clock hanging in the center of the waiting hall with a gloomy expression.

A red banner hangs next to the clock face, which reads: "It is glorious to change jobs and find new employment; it is shameful to wait!"
It is now 8 p.m., and the waiting hall is shrouded in the inky darkness of night.

Inside the ticket window, a man and a woman sat in their respective seats.

The man was dozing off, while the woman was eating sunflower seeds and reading a book.

Wu Dayong turned his gaze back and whispered to Yang Hong beside him, "Old Yang, we've been waiting for almost ten hours. Could it be that this woman, Wang Caixia, has embezzled the money?"

Yang Hong was flipping through the Royal Color magazine in his hand, which he had bought from a vendor that afternoon.

It cost him a full thirty dollars. The cover had the magazine's name, "Playboy," on it, along with a scantily clad Western woman.

He held a cigarette between his fingers, took a drag, held the smoke in his mouth for a few seconds before exhaling, and kept his eyes glued to the explicit images in the magazine.

He was also puzzled, scratching his newly grown hair, and asked in return, "I said, this woman was your ex-lover, don't you know her? You're asking me? Who am I supposed to ask?"

Aren't you worried?

"What's the use of being anxious?" Yang Hong's eyes never left the foreign woman, and she didn't get tired of looking at her all afternoon.

"If it really doesn't work out, we won't leave today."

"That's right, where can you go without money?"

Wu Dayong glared at him, and seeing Yang Hong's unhurried attitude, he felt angry.

But he dared not show it. The night before last, when Yang Hong killed the woman, he did it like a pig being slaughtered, without even blinking.

Moreover, this guy has peculiar fetishes and his methods are extremely cruel.

At this moment, Wu Dayong recalled what happened the night before last, and he was still somewhat dazed.

The woman remained silent, biting down hard on the pants she held in her mouth. Her hands were tied behind her back, and her body writhed like a maggot towards the doorstep.

Recalling this scene, Wu Dayong quickly cleared his mind of the jumbled thoughts.

He turned his head and saw Yang Hong staring at the foreign woman with shining eyes.

"Old Wu, tell me, wouldn't it be awesome to be able to get a foreign girl in this lifetime?"

Wu Dayong, too lazy to listen to his rambling, stood up and said, "I'm going out for a smoke. If that woman Wang Caixia doesn't come in another half hour, we'll go find her!"

"Why are you moving around to smoke? The salesperson won't dare say anything!"

"I'm going out for some fresh air, is that alright?" Wu Dayong muttered to himself as he stepped out of the waiting hall.

The square outside was already lit up with neon lights, and bicycles, like fish and shrimp, shuttled back and forth on the road outside the square.

A buzzing sound, like voltage, came from the night sky, vibrating my eardrums.

Wu Dayong took out a Baihongmei cigarette, lit it with a match, and looked up at the pitch-black night sky.

The more agitated a person is, the faster they smoke. Wu Dayong was experiencing this right now, feeling inexplicably uneasy.

He finished his cigarette in a few puffs, threw the butt on the ground, stomped it out, and muttered under his breath, "You bitch, if I catch you and your husband embezzling my money, I'll skin you alive!"

Wu Dayong spat down the steps and turned back to the waiting hall.

As soon as he left, several figures, reflected in the lamplight, appeared in the flowerbeds on both sides of the square.

He Jinbo stared intently at the doorway on the steps, then asked the crouching cat, "Cat, did you see clearly? Is that the person?"

Cat nodded: "The height of 1.7 meters matches, and the black shirt also matches, but I couldn't see the face shape clearly."

He Jinbo scolded, "Can't you open your eyes a little wider? What kind of eyes do you have?"

The cat blinked its heavy dark circles, its eyes gleaming with intelligence.

Xu Guoliang, who was behind the flower bed at the other end, crouched down and ran over, still holding a gun in his hand. He whispered, "I've seen it clearly, it should be this person! He's pretty much the same as Lao Zheng described!"

He Jinbo pondered for a moment and said, "We don't know the situation inside yet. If we rush in rashly, and those two guys are armed, we'll be in trouble!"

After he finished speaking, he looked at Xu Guoliang and asked, "When will Lao Zheng and the others arrive?"

"I just contacted them, just a few minutes ago! The joint defense team is here too!"

He Jinbo nodded: "We are short-handed right now, so just in case, let's wait for them to come and act together."

In just a short while, Zheng Kang led a large group of men running quickly from across the road.

He Jinbo quickly gestured to him, telling him to try to stay hidden.

Zheng Kang quickly waved behind him, and the auxiliary police officers scattered to both sides, especially the uniformed police officers, who bent down and hid in the tree-lined path.

Zheng Kang ran over, followed by Yang Jinwen and Jiang Jianbing.

"What's going on now?"

He Jinbo replied, "We just arrived and don't know the situation inside yet."

Yang Jinwen suggested, "What's the phone number for the ticket hall? They're still open for business."

Zheng Kang nodded quickly: "Yes, let's call in and find out what's going on."

He Jinbo then instructed, "Old Jiang, Old Xu, you two take your men around to the back and side gates and block both sides to provide support for us at any time."

"Okay." The two answered in unison, and led their men to the designated location.

"Be careful," He Jinbo warned, then took out his mobile phone from his bag and dialed 114 for directory assistance.

He didn't even know the phone number in the waiting room.

Meanwhile, in the waiting hall, the second hand on the quartz clock on the wall ticked away clearly.

The female ticket seller was eating sunflower seeds until her mouth was numb. She picked up a fruit can jar as a cup of hot water, took a sip, and then looked at the two men sitting on the bench.

The two stayed for the entire afternoon, neither taking a car nor leaving.

She suddenly felt something was amiss, but it was almost time to leave work, so she didn't bother with it and continued eating sunflower seeds and flipping through entertainment magazines.

Just then, the red landline phone on the table suddenly rang.

"Jingle Bell……"

The sound was so abrupt and jarring that it echoed in the empty waiting room, causing the two men sitting on the bench to look over at the same time...
