Chapter 62 Unexpected Accidents Always Happen (Please Read On)

Theodore, however, had no intention of closing the case. He asked Cynthia why David Moore had called her a 'whore' and a 'bitch'.

Bernie looked over in surprise when he heard the question; he didn't understand what it meant.

"Insults are a subjective emotional outburst."

Theodore gave an example: "For instance, if you are unhappy with Jacob, you would call him a rat, a traitor, not a whore, a slut."

"If you think someone is unfaithful in marriage, you would call her a whore or a slut, not a rat or a traitor."

“There are only two possibilities for him to use such words to insult you.” Theodore held up two fingers.

"The deceased truly believed you were unfaithful in your marriage."

Cynthia lowered her head, clutching the ring in her hand, and remained silent.

"Or the deceased may be hoping to regain control over you through insults."

"The deceased was an oil worker, a profession traditionally associated with masculinity. Paralysis rendered him sexually impotent, and the insults were a form of transferred anger directed at his own sexual dysfunction."

“The caregiver, Mary, mentioned that the deceased would lash out at Donald Moore, and that injuries to the T10-T11 thoracic vertebrae would affect X-ray function…”

No! Donald is his child!

Theodore seemed to have forgotten what Dr. Martinez had said. He opened David Moore's medical records and continued to question whether David Moore had lost his sexual ability.

“Donald is his child!” Cynthia clutched the ring tightly, repeating, “He’s good to me too!”

"Just as good as before!"

Bernie and Theodore exchanged a glance.

Cynthia's protectiveness of the deceased completely contradicts her stated motive for the crime.

Theodore became completely interested.

He pointed to Cynthia's clenched fingers and asked her, "Is this your wedding ring?"

“Your life is very difficult. You work four jobs but still can't cover your family expenses. You have to borrow money from gangsters to make ends meet. Even so, you haven't pawned it. Why?”

Cynthia didn't answer, she just kept her head down.

Theodore wasn't in a hurry to close the case. He called a halt to the interrogation and discussed with Bernie the possibility of finding the woman he had cheated on him with.

Cynthia's story was very moving and seemed to reflect the behavior of a Christian husband who deeply loved his wife, but this was only her side of the story.

Dead people don't speak, so if she says she loves you deeply, then she loves you deeply.

It is possible for living people to participate.

Bernie asked him why he was so sure Cynthia was cheating, rather than another possibility.

"The deceased believed that she had cheated on him, and she did not deny it."

The investigation into Cynthia's affair partner was straightforward.

Theodore and Bernie visited her workplace one after the other.

“Cynthia Moore carried the guilt of killing her husband, and he left with a clean slate.”

Bernie stared at him for a long time, seemingly wanting to say something but then stopping himself.

This perspective reminded him of what Paul Miller had said.

"Aren't you the same!"

"Why won't you help me!" "I don't want to go to hell to talk to David Moore right now." Theodore's voice brought Bernie back to reality.

Bernie swerved the steering wheel, narrowly missing the truck and drawing a string of slang curses.

Cynthia works as a cleaner at the oil company's office building every morning. Her job requires her to clean the corridors, toilets, and meeting rooms before starting work.

Cynthia was very capable; she single-handedly took on the cleaning work for the entire floor.

The job required her to finish cleaning before starting work, leaving her with absolutely no opportunity to interact with others.

In the mornings, she goes to the St. Mary's Nursing Home to work as a caregiver assistant. Her main duties include bathing, feeding, and changing bed sheets for disabled elderly residents.

Theodore and Bernie learned from several elderly people cared for by Cynthia that Cynthia would secretly collect the leftover painkillers from the elderly, saying that she would take them back to her husband to help relieve his pain.

The elderly people here are all aware of her family situation, and they often ask the caregiver for extra painkillers, which they then secretly slip to her.

When asked if any other men had visited her, the elderly women exchanged glances and fell silent. One of them, with slurred speech, pointed at Theodore and shouted...

Theodore turned stiffly to look at the newspaper stand.

The Felton Star, in its most prominent position, displayed the headline "Twin Psychic Detectives Outwit Werewolf Senator," seemingly a silent mockery of him.

Bernie became interested and went over to whisper something with the old people, eventually obtaining the person's information.

His name is Paul Anderson, and he works at the Blue Parrot Motel.

The Blue Parrot Motel is Cynthia Moore's afternoon workplace. Her main duties include cleaning hourly rooms, changing sheets, and handling guests' belongings.

After saying goodbye to the old men who wanted to crucify Theodore, the two headed straight for the Blue Parrot Motel.

A call came through the police channel on the street, specifically requesting Detective Bernie Sullivan to proceed to Stockton Street immediately.

Bernie's expression changed drastically upon hearing the name Stockton Street.

He picked up the walkie-talkie and asked about the situation in a dry voice, but there was no response.

Sullivan's school was on Stockton Street.

Theodore told Bernie to pull over, and the two switched places, arriving quickly.

Mrs. Sullivan was also there. When she saw Bernie get out of the car, she could no longer hold back her stern face and burst into tears in Bernie's arms.

Although the patrol officers were prepared, they were still somewhat surprised to see Theodore and Bernie, and stood at a distance, not daring to approach.

Thanks to the tireless promotion by Councilor Santos and the police department's image-building efforts orchestrated by the FOP, Theodore and Bernie have become star figures in the police force.

The two's crime-solving efficiency, especially, has become almost mythical due to the police department's deliberate exaggeration.

Now the case has happened to me.

Bernie seemed agitated. After offering a few perfunctory words of comfort, he grabbed a detective and asked him what was going on.

According to the detective, the man who took them away was bald, about 74 inches tall, with a build similar to Bernie's, and both arms were covered in tattoos.

Some people saw that at first he only carried Donald Jr. away, but Sullivan Jr. followed behind, grabbing his clothes and not letting him leave.

The bald man pushed Sullivan to the ground, and Sullivan simply grabbed the bald man's leg and dragged him along the ground.

At this point, the school teachers had noticed something was wrong and were preparing to go over to inquire about the situation.

This action seemed to startle the bald man, who kicked Sullivan twice. Seeing that the school teacher had arrived, he simply grabbed one of them and took them away.

Bernie's eyes turned red after hearing the description.
