The Magic Empire for 20,000 years

Chapter 58, Part 55: Granny Liu Visits the Grand View Garden

Chapter 58, Section 55: Granny Liu Visits the Grand View Garden

Alamir found it somewhat difficult to understand.

He even felt that the gazes of the onlookers around him made him feel like he was being pricked by thorns.

So he tried again.

Amidst the skeptical and slightly mocking gazes of the crowd, he went through a series of chanting and frenzied dance-like movements, and once again pushed his hands towards the direction of the floating city high in the sky.

An even more powerful, invisible magical fluctuation rose towards the heavens.

Then, still nothing happened.

"How could this be?"

"Didn't those human mages combine the power of a thousand people to cast a super-large version of the levitation spell, making this stone float in the air?"

"How could it not be dispelled?"

Alamir found it somewhat difficult to understand.

In fact, if it were more than a century ago, when the mages of Eldoron gathered the strength of a thousand people to create this floating city, the spells used for levitation could indeed be directly dispelled by legendary mages.

However, over the past century, with the gradual advancement of human magic, high-ranking mages and chiefs have made numerous improvements to levitation magic.

They placed levitation spells in different parts of the floating city.

A typical "dispelling magic" effect can only dispel one area at a time, preventing the entire floating city from crashing down.

Ten years after Elian's time travel, he further improved the levitation magic.

With his legendary magical power and arcane magical knowledge far ahead of his time, he adjusted the structure of the floating city's magic.

This not only made the floating city's maximum flight speed faster and its floating more stable, but also placed the magical power source for the floating city's suspension inside the city body.

To dispel the levitation magic of the floating city, one must venture deep into the city and attack and destroy each of its levitation power sources.

Relying solely on external methods to dispel magical effects is completely ineffective!
Those around them could see that Aramir's spell had failed, and they began to whisper among themselves:

"Sure enough, the elven mage performed the same act again, and nothing happened."

"Did the spell fail again?"

He looked really annoyed.

"Wait, why is this guy still standing in the middle of the road? He's blocking the way!"

Just then, amidst the neighing of horses, a public carriage, under the guidance of its driver, barely managed to avoid Alamir in the middle of the road.

"Who are you? You're blocking the road and obstructing traffic!"

"Can't you be a little more civilized?!"

The passengers in the carriage leaned out in dissatisfaction and hurled a few insults at Alamir.

"These damned humans. Humph, don't bother with them!"

Alamir walked away, clearly displeased.

—Of course, it wasn't because he listened to humans, but because he needed to walk around and think about what to do next.

"Since we can't directly dispel the floating magic of the floating city, why don't we try blowing up the entire floating city?"

"This is a bit troublesome. I'm not very good at evocation spells that deal damage over a large area."

"Use weaker magic to blast it apart little by little?"

Only then did Alamir have time to pay attention to her surroundings, and she suddenly felt a very unsettling feeling:

"Wait, this is a human settlement, right?"

"It's so much more developed than I imagined!"

He originally thought that the environment of human settlements would be similar to that of orc or goblin tribes.

Or slightly better, it's just a small village.

This is a whole town!

Not only does it have a neat bluestone road, but horse-drawn carriages also travel on it.

There are even drainage facilities like sewers.

On both sides of the street, sturdy stone houses stand side by side.

Judging from the clothing of pedestrians on the street, human achievements in textiles are quite respectable. Although the clothes are far less beautiful than those of elves, they place more emphasis on practicality and durability!

Alamir, of course, had no idea that most of the roads here were paved with zombies; many of the pedestrians' clothes were sewn from skeletons. And some of the houses were created daily by a vast number of newly minted surface mages using their "divine craftsmanship," "stone wall spell," "stone shaping spell," and "mud to stone" techniques.

Even the construction of the sewers required exploiting a large number of mage apprentices, forcing them to constantly perform magic tricks to blast out a sewer from underground.

There are now over ten thousand mages and an even larger number of mage apprentices on the surface of Eldoron, so completing these tasks is not difficult.

"Hasn't the human race only existed for a few hundred years? How could they build a civilized town of this caliber!"

Alamir looked around, increasingly surprised.

This is comparable to most elven towns.

In many places, it even surpasses the level of remote elven towns!

Alamir simply couldn't understand it:

The level of infrastructure in this town is clearly something that could only have been built in a relatively peaceful environment.

"I remember there were several orc tribes, as well as a large number of goblins and kobolds, in the wild lands to the east."

"Aren't they a savage race, much like humans?"

"How come humans have all built towns, where are the traces of those other races?"

Alamir was like a country bumpkin who had never seen the world before. He walked down the street, looking around in astonishment.

"What exactly happened in the human kingdoms during the years I was in seclusion?"

"Oh well, whatever, what does this have to do with me?"

Just as Alamir decided to temporarily ignore the meaningless matter of town infrastructure and focus on preparing to attack the floating city...

Suddenly, the Sun Elf court mage froze on the spot, his eyes wide open.

On the sidewalk in front of him, several orc zombies were paving the way.

"Undead?"

"Undead creatures are attacking human towns?"

"Is it some human necromancer who's coming to slaughter these lowly people who can't use magic?"

Based on the information he had previously obtained, Alamir quickly made a judgment and was greatly alarmed.

He wasn't worried about these uncivilized commoners being slaughtered by necromancers; what shocked him more was another fact.

"How did a human mage master necromancy, the art of creating the undead?"

"This is an absolute taboo in the Elven Kingdom! What exactly did that Seymour teach humans?"

"No, we have to go back and give Seymour a piece of our minds. How could he teach such blasphemous and evil magic to humans!"

"The moon elves are all hopeless idiots..."

Alamir raised his right hand, gathering invisible energy to easily dispatch the zombies, when he noticed another strange thing:

"Wait, the undead creatures are attacking the town, so why don't the human civilians around here show any signs of panic?"

He saw people walking by the roadside, chatting and laughing.

Although they would consciously avoid the areas where those zombies were.

But even the youngest girl showed no fear.

Are these humans idiots?

"These are undead! Creatures that most blasphemously desecrate evil magic! Why didn't you run away when you saw them?"

"Wait, if they're not afraid at all, why are they avoiding these zombies?"

Alamir felt he couldn't understand human thought processes.

He grabbed a little girl next to him and, seeing her bewildered look, asked her the question he had been asking.

"Why should I avoid these zombies instead of hiding further away?"

The little girl seemed to have heard a completely illogical question.

She pointed to a sign next to the zombie. Following the little girl's direction, Alamir looked over and saw that the sign read:

"Please keep your distance during road construction. Thank you for your understanding!"

"Uncle must be from out of town. Teacher Joseph and Teacher Mary taught us to avoid the places where skeleton zombies work, so as not to interfere with their road construction."
