Chapter 2 Reward
Li Younan stared blankly at the virtual interface in front of him, feeling a little dazed.

He was certain that this interface was only visible to him. With a thought, the interface appeared; with another thought, it disappeared—how fascinating!

I've read online novels before and seen similar comics on short video platforms, so I know what a system is all about.

This thing is like giving the protagonist a 24/7 convenience store with cheat codes, turning what should be a dramatic growth path into a mindless speedrun game where you can win effortlessly.

But it's different when this thing happens to you; it perfectly captures your fantasy of an ideal life.

Li Younan's previously somewhat depressed mood suddenly brightened.

He studied the system with great interest and eventually determined that his checkpoint was a radius of 5 meters centered on the bench he was on.

In other words, according to the system's check-in requirements, you will need to stay here for 6 hours to complete the check-in and receive the so-called reward.

Li Younan changed his position and simply lay down on the chair.

I changed my posture and continued spacing out.

Staying for a full 6 hours is not a difficult task for Li Younan at the moment.

He smiled slightly.

I broke up with my girlfriend and got fired from my job. If life has its low points, how much worse can it get than this?

It's just a matter of staying here for 6 hours.

He sat up again. It wasn't necessary to stay on this bench all the time; there was a 5-meter radius area for him to move around.

As the night deepened, Li Younan sat in a chair, quietly contemplating some things.

Moonlight poured down.

He grew up in a single-parent family. His father passed away in an accident when he was very young, and his mother worked in a public institution in a small county town to support him.

At that moment, Li Younan longed to hear her mother's voice.

Li Younan took out her phone and called her mother.

Actually, I shouldn't have disturbed my mother's rest at this time, but the phone was answered shortly afterward.

A gentle voice came from the other end of the phone: "What's wrong, Nan Nan?"

Li Younan smiled and said, "It's nothing, Mom. I just missed you."

Mom was very happy and didn't scold him for disturbing her sleep so late. She said cheerfully, "I miss you too, son."

Li Younan said calmly, "Mom, I quit my job and broke up with Yang Ting. I want to take a break and go out for a while."

The mother on the other end of the phone was clearly taken aback.

After a while, instead of blaming her, she said gently, "Oh, it's okay. If you're tired from work, come back. It's okay if things aren't going well in your relationship; you'll always meet someone better."

Just like Li Younan said to Yang Ting, these are all minor matters.

This is a phrase his mother often says.

Li Younan gave a soft "hmm".

He talked with his mother for a long time.

When I hung up the phone, it was extremely quiet around me, and the moonlight was still pouring down silently.

Li Younan remained silent for a moment, a smile playing on her lips, while tears silently streamed down her face.

There's really nothing to be moved about; his mother has always treated him this way.

So no matter how many times he lost faith in Yang Ting, he believed that there were people in this world worthy of his love.

But why do I feel like crying?
He couldn't fall asleep; after all, there were a lot of mosquitoes in the area, and the park benches were uncomfortable to lie on. More importantly, no one could sleep while thinking about something like awakening and binding to a system.

Li Younan quickly composed himself, watching the check-in time tick by, and began to look forward to his first reward after completing the check-in.

I finally fell asleep.

I was later woken up by the ringing of the telephone.

He sat up groggily, and his first reaction was not to check his phone, but to open the system interface. He was then somewhat disappointed, as there was still an hour left before the check-in deadline, despite having stayed up for so long.

It was already late at night, and the surroundings were eerily quiet. There was no moon in the sky, and the city's outline seemed to be blurred out by blobs of ink. Only outside the outline could a faint halo be seen.

His ringtone was "Sunshine, Rainbow, Little White Horse," which was playing over and over again, "Sunshine, Rainbow, Little White Horse, drip-drip-drip," sounding extremely eerie in the dark and quiet environment.

Li Younan thought with amusement that if someone were to accidentally wander in now, they would probably be quite startled.

He picked up his phone and saw that it was Yang Ting calling.

Li Younan hesitated for a moment, then hung up.

He thought that Yang Ting wasn't actually a bad girl; they just couldn't be in love anymore.

Being together doesn't necessarily have to be a life-changing experience, and breaking up doesn't necessarily have to be unforgivable; this is just the norm in life.

After hanging up the phone, Yang Ting did not call back.

Silence fell again.

The last hour was particularly difficult; Li Younan watched the countdown tick by, second by second.

Finally, in his bloodshot eyes, the clock-in time reached zero.

The next moment, his heart pounded with excitement, and the pleasant system notification sounded: [Congratulations, host, for completing the daily check-in and receiving a random reward: Auto Repair Ability +1.]

Immediately afterwards, a flood of knowledge poured into Li Younan's mind, all of it about automobiles: models of internal combustion engines, chassis of different cars, transmissions, structures, gears, and so on.

He was somewhat stunned as he absorbed this knowledge.

This process didn't last very long, only a few tens of seconds. This knowledge was like "the bright moonlight before my bed, I bow my head and think of my hometown," completely integrated into my body.

This knowledge and the experience of it growing into my body is simply wonderful.

Li Younan sat on the bench, head down, thinking for a long time, confirming that this knowledge truly belonged to him. At the same time, a plan he had been conceiving for a long time uncontrollably surfaced in his mind.

Li Younan stood up and stretched languidly.

It was still early morning, several hours before dawn. He was so sleepy that he could finally go to sleep.

He took out his phone and called a Didi (ride-hailing service) to take him to a five-star hotel in the city.

Li Younan decided to treat herself better today.

The receptionists at these 24-hour hotels are not only beautiful, but also look energetic. Even late at night, they greet guests with enthusiasm, saying, "Welcome!"

Li Younan checked in, locked himself in the hotel room, drew the curtains, turned off his phone to "Do Not Disturb," and set it so that only his mother's calls could come in. Then he fell into a deep sleep in the quiet environment.

When Li Younan woke up again, he didn't know how much time had passed.

He picked up his phone; it showed two missed calls from Yang Ting and six missed calls from his manager.

He ignored it, put down his phone, and then got up and walked to the window.

I drew back the curtains, and the bright sunlight streamed in, both radiant and intense.

Li Younan let out a long breath. The weather is so nice today. He thought, such good weather is perfect for starting a new chapter in his life.
