Chapter 291 A Peaceful Night

It was getting dark, and Su Miaoyi and Zhuang Yanzheng asked for photos of Lu Xian, Mia, and the men under Mia who had been arrested.

The photos were given to Duan Wenrui and Zhao Yongliang.

Before dark, they planned to split into two groups, going door-to-door to give instructions and check on each household, so they could show the villagers the photos.

While they were taking people out, Su Miaoyi also went out for a stroll by herself.

In the morning, Zhao Yongliang led them on a brief tour of the village, and she knew the way.

As dusk approached, the village gradually quieted down.

As Su Miaoyi walked along, she only saw a few scattered people in front of their houses.

Most of them have already closed their doors.

A breeze began to pick up again. Su Miaoyi was walking down the street when she reached the end of one street and was about to turn into another when she suddenly heard a knock on the door.

The street she was about to turn into was just three doors away from her spot.

"Open the door! Open the door!" It was a man's voice, shouting as he knocked on the door.

Most of the doors here are wooden, but the knocking is very loud.

Su Miaoyi turned the corner and continued walking forward.

Soon another voice rang out: "Tian Ming, right? We're not playing tonight, you can go home!"

"Why aren't you playing anymore?" the person called Tian Ming shouted again.

"Keep your voice down, don't shout," another person said.

Tian Ming remained silent.

The other man may have said something, but Tian Ming didn't hear it, so he said, "Speak louder, I can't hear you."

“There are police in the village who patrol at night. Do you want to get arrested?” another man said, raising his voice slightly.

Hearing the man's words, Su Miaoyi stopped.

We were only separated from them by a doorway.

The doorway where the person called Tian Ming was standing was recessed, so Su Miaoyi couldn't see Tian Ming from her angle, and Tian Ming probably couldn't see her either. In any case, she wasn't discovered.

"What are you afraid of? They didn't notice us playing last night. Let's keep it down today," Tian Ming said.

“I’m not playing anymore, I won’t be playing for a while. With such a big thing happening in the village, you still have the mood to play? Don’t you want to die?”

"What? Did you do something wrong? Are you so scared? Are you afraid the Goat Horn God will kill you?" Tian Ming said.

"Hmph, you'd better be careful. We're not playing for the next few days, you should head back now, it'll be dark soon."

"Tsk." Tian Ming clicked his tongue in annoyance. "You scared me to death!"

After he finished speaking, he turned around, took a few steps, and suddenly saw Su Miaoyi.

Su Miaoyi saw that he was startled and actually jumped back.

"Who are you?" Tian Ming looked at her warily and fearfully, and took two steps back.

Su Miaoyi looked at him without saying anything.

Tian Ming took two steps back: "What are you doing? Let me tell you, this village is full of police now. If I shout, someone will come right away."

"Police." Su Miaoyi took out her police ID.

Tian Ming was still a little scared and dared not get closer.

"What were you doing at his house?" Su Miaoyi put away her police ID.

"Are they really police officers?" Tian Ming asked.

"Ah."

Tian Ming relaxed a little, but not completely. He straightened up and said, "What are you doing standing there? It's kind of scary."

"What are you going to his house for?" Su Miaoyi asked again.

"Let's go to his house to play."

"playing what?"

Tian Ming remained silent.

Su Miaoyi said in a deep voice, "Please cooperate."

Her voice was already cold, and when it went down, it became even more oppressive.

"We didn't do much, just chatted in the evening, is that not allowed?" Tian Ming said.

Su Miaoyi walked towards him, smelling a hint of alcohol. "If you don't tell the truth, I'll take you to the police station right now, and we'll talk there." Just then, Duan Wenrui and the others came from the other side of the street: "What's wrong?"

“He’s going to play at this place.” Su Miaoyi pointed to the doorway. “I asked him what he wanted to play, but he wouldn’t tell me.”

Duan Wenrui walked over in a few steps: "This place?"

"Ah."

Duan Wenrui knocked on the door: "Police."

The door opened shortly afterward. Duan Wenrui gave some instructions and then showed the man the photo.

Having never seen the man before, Duan Wenrui followed him into the room, saying he wanted to check the doors and windows.

It took almost ten minutes before I came out.

Duan Wenrui said, "That guy named Tian Ming comes over to play cards every night. Last night, when that folk song was playing, there were nine of them playing cards here."

After saying that, Duan Wenrui whispered to Su Miaoyi, "He is Tian Min's father."

Su Miaoyi glanced at Tian Ming again and said to Duan Wenrui, "Is this considered gambling?"

"No. They were just playing together, and the amount was very small," Duan Wenrui said in a low voice. "We didn't catch them in the act, so we could only hear what they said. That family said they only played a little late last night, and they don't play every day; they usually leave early, so we could only give them a verbal warning."

Su Miaoyi nodded and said nothing more.

Is it gambling or for entertainment? The limits on the amount of money allowed vary from place to place.

Duan Wenrui gave Tian Ming a verbal reprimand and then said, "Go home quickly and don't go out at night. It's not safe outside."

"Okay, okay, okay." Tian Ming nodded and quickly left.

Su Miaoyi glanced at Tian Ming's retreating figure and said, "You guys are busy, I'll just take a stroll."

“I’ll have someone follow you,” Duan Wenrui said.

"No need." Su Miaoyi continued walking forward.

Duan Wenrui and his team continued their work.

After asking every household in the village, it was already quite late.

Patrols were scheduled for every street and at every time period.

Duan Wenrui also contacted his superiors, and someone will come tomorrow to install cameras on the street.

Su Miaoyi and the others did not return to the town; they all spent the night at the village committee.

Nothing happened overnight.

No songs were heard, and no cases occurred.

The tension in everyone's hearts was temporarily relieved.

I had breakfast this morning.

The autopsy results for Wan Shuang are in.

Su Miaoyi glanced at it.

The time of death was approximately thirteen hours prior.

Cause of death: Cyanide poisoning.

The fracture of the hyoid bone was caused by strangulation after death.

There were still marks on his neck from when he was killed.

The body was moved after death.

It is inferred that the victim was first strangled, then fed cyanide, and after death, the body was dragged while strangled, causing a fracture of the hyoid bone. Alternatively, the hyoid bone fracture may have occurred after the victim was hung from a tree.

Grass juice was extracted from Wan Shuang's hands and fingernails, confirming that she was cutting grass before her death.

Wan Shuang's fingerprints, as well as her husband Tian Wu's fingerprints, were extracted from the sickle.

There are only two fingerprints; no one else's.

“Both of them used the sickle in the house, and both of their fingerprints are normal,” Chu Xingrou said.

“Tian Wu has also been listed as a suspect,” Duan Wenrui said. “His whereabouts are being monitored.”

“Cyanide poisoning,” Chu Xingrou said. “It’s another poison. There’s a drug that’s deadly on contact with blood: cyanide.”

“Cyanide kills very quickly, in two to three minutes,” Lu Zhishen said.

Su Miaoyi looked down at the autopsy report again.

No information about the murderer was found on the deceased.
