Chapter 173 Nothing is Unforgivable

Onboard the third star ring spaceship, politicians held a banquet to celebrate their narrow escape from death.

Melina found a corner and stared at the view outside the porthole.

She looked down and could see the constantly spinning red planet. The three ring-shaped spaceports surrounding the capital planet were slowly slowing down.

When they completely stop operating, it means the port will be shut down completely.

"Director, the Star Ring Leader is here," the secretary said quietly as she approached.

Melina asked, "I remember you're from the fourth star ring, Tam."

The secretary looked slightly surprised, wondering why she had asked that question: "Yes."

Are your family members all on Tam?

"Yes, they like the climate there."

Melina: "Did you know that the companion planet of Tam has been taken over by the Zerg?"

The secretary looked up abruptly, her hair standing on end, and unconsciously raised her voice: "How could this be?! Didn't the Federation say they had already brought the area where the wormhole appeared under control?!"

Melina sighed softly and said bitterly, "Let the Zerg completely devour a planet, and then abandon it. If that counts as having control, then it's under control."

The secretary's knees buckled, and she collapsed to the ground.

Tam is very close to its companion star!

If the companion planet has fallen, what about Tam?!
He grabbed Melina's trouser leg, looked up, and his eyes shone with a fragile hope: "Director, the Zerg can't fly across space, right? The Federation must have a way, right?"

Melina's face was hidden in the shadows, making it impossible to see her expression: "Whether there's a way or not, it all depends on this time."

The companion star of Tamm in the fourth ring can be discarded at will.

So, what about the third star ringing around the capital city star?
As it turns out, even the capital city can be abandoned.

The spacecraft departed the capital star's space region, and the military of the Third Star Ring took over the capital star.

The military fleet hovered in orbit around the capital star, its ships resembling a forest of black tombstones.

The flagship "Silent One" deployed a ring-shaped accelerator on its belly, and the superconducting coils hummed and vibrated in the vacuum.

The secretary watched this scene from afar: "What is that?"

Melina: "Planetary weapon, antimatter cannon."

The secretary turned her head in alarm to look at Melina.

Planetary-level weapon?!

"There are still many people on the capital planet! So many, many people!"

No more than twenty spaceships escaped from the capital planet! More than half of them were federal government employees and their families.

Once the weapon was fully charged, the antimatter cannon fired toward the capital planet.

A silent flash pierced the atmosphere. The Earth's surface collapsed into a black hole, and skyscrapers were sucked in like straws.

Immediately afterwards, fiery red cracks spread like a spider web, the ocean boiled into steam, and the entire continent was thrown into space.

The instant the neon lights went out, billions of communication beams whistled and were cut off, like sparks being extinguished.

The secretary stared blankly at the once vibrant planet, now just some remnants silently spinning in the universe.

The intense heat of the explosions and the agonizing screams of humanity as they faced death were all filtered through the vacuum of space, like a silent film, filled with a sense of unreality. In his AI's contact list, names faded into the shadows. The list was so long it seemed impossible to scroll to the bottom.

"Director, I want to resign. I want to go home."

Melina patted his shoulder and turned to leave: "I'll give you a chance. Think it over carefully."

Melina weaved through the dancing crowd and found the Star Ring Leader, who was also alone.

"Director, we should release the research data of Project Leviathan to the public."

Star Ring's long gaze was sharp as a falcon's, gleaming with a cold light, as he kept a close eye on Melina's every move.

He put down his wine glass and said in a low voice, "Melina, the Leviathan Project is not a secret that someone at your level should have access to."

“But I do know,” Lin Xiaohe told her.

God knows how shocked Melina was when she learned the details of the plan.

Those lunatics in the federal government, when profits reach 100%, dare to trample on all human laws. When profits reach 300%, they even dare to sell the noose that strangles themselves!

Xing Huanhuan smiled, as if looking at his own naughty child: "I know, I know. You are a mature politician, you know what you should and shouldn't do."

Melina met his gaze without flinching: "Including the illegal experiments conducted by Starshine Life?"

Xing Huan's long smile froze on his face.

He rubbed his forehead, both amused and exasperated, and said, "Where did you hear this gossip from? Good boy, I know you've had a close call and are quite shaken. Come on, have a drink, go back and get a good night's sleep, and welcome a bright and beautiful tomorrow."

"So many people have died because of your single decision, I can't sleep."

The Star Ring Commander's smile turned completely cold: "This is a small sacrifice made to protect the Federation."

"You haven't even fought the Black Beetles. Lin Xiaohe cleared the entire dungeon during the military academy competition, which proves that the Zerg are not invincible!"

The leader of the Star Ring interrupted her, saying sternly, "Enough! Melina, what you're doing makes it hard for me not to doubt your stance. The Star Harvest Party's 80 billion funding can't be kept secret."

"Melina, Lin Xiaohe is very strong. She can save one person, a group of people, or the people of a planet, but she cannot save the Federation or all of humanity! Don't place your hopes on a hero. The will of the group is the strongest force."

Melina silently retorted in her heart, "This hero is willing to save people, but your so-called strongest group chooses to blow up a planet in order to avoid taking risks!"
Knowing she couldn't persuade the Star Ring Chief, she turned and left.

"Melina, Starshine Life has very close ties with many members of our party. You understand?"

Melina waved her hand.

Of course she understands.

Every election is a financial war. The figures nominated by the party are merely puppets of the capital behind them.

Starlife is one of the largest assets in the federal government, hedging its bets against both the Republican and Democratic parties. Regardless of who wins the election, it will have a voice in the political arena.

After this conversation, Melina was sidelined. The official explanation was that due to the war, universities in the Third Star Ring had suspended admissions, rendering her, as the head of admissions, essentially useless.

In fact, Melina was excluded from meetings at all subsequent levels.

She simply took a long leave of absence and returned to her alma mater in the Second Star Ring. Most of the alumni held important positions in their respective Star Rings, so they would be much better informed.

The tutor looked at his star pupil, his head throbbing with pain: "You're really getting worse as you get older. You weren't this reckless even in your freshman year. What's wrong? Have you been poisoned by Lin Xiaohe?"

Melina shrugged and presented the prepared gift to her mentor: "Teacher, would you mind telling me the current state of the battle?"

She didn't believe a single word the Federal Propaganda Department said!
