Chapter 137: One last reminder

An Lu seemed oblivious to An Min's cold stare, and instead moved closer, as if deliberately wanting all the neighbors around to hear clearly.

"Sister, how can you say that? We're sisters. When Mom and Dad were alive, you were the ones they loved the most. Now that they're gone, shouldn't I, as their younger sister, help you out?"

“Look at the life you’re living now. If your parents knew, they would be heartbroken.”

As soon as she said this, the neighbors around her immediately started whispering among themselves.

People in this era value family ties and reputation most.

An Lu's words were implying, both openly and subtly, that An Min was ungrateful.

Disregarding their precious sisterly bond, she preferred to suffer in a poor mountain village rather than live a better life with her sister.

An Min's heart sank. She realized that An Lu had deliberately come here to ruin her reputation.

She took a deep breath and looked coldly at An Lu.

“Anlu, stop pretending. I know exactly what kind of person you are. Do you think you can sow discord between me and the neighbors like this?”

"Sister, how could you say that to me?"

Anlu immediately put on a pitiful look, and her eyes instantly reddened.

“I know you still blame me for being immature in the past and doing things that upset you. But I’ve changed now. I’ve come here this time because I genuinely want you to come back with me and live a good life.”

As she spoke, she took out several brand-new clothes and some delicate snacks from her suitcase and handed them to Anmin.

“Look, these are all things I specially brought for you and the children. In Hong Kong, you can find these kinds of things everywhere. If you come back with me, you can live like this every day.”

The neighbors looked at those exquisite items with envy in their eyes.

Some people even started whispering to Anmin, "Anmin, your sister means well. Why don't you go back with her and see her?"

Hearing this, Anmin became even angrier.

She pushed the things Anlu offered back, her tone firm.

"Stop acting, An Lu. Do I look like an idiot?"

Liang Yi stepped forward, grasped An Min's hand tightly, and spoke to the neighbors around him.

"Neighbors, don't take what Anlu says seriously. We all know what kind of person she is. She didn't come here with the intention of letting Anmin go back with her to live a good life; she has other motives."

When An Lu saw that Liang Yi had seen through her trick, she became furious and embarrassed.

"Liang Yi, stop making baseless accusations! I came to pick up my sister out of kindness, so why are you saying I have ulterior motives? I think you're just afraid that if my sister leaves with me, no one will be there to serve you!"

"What nonsense are you talking about!"

Liang Yi's face turned ashen instantly. He never expected An Lu to say such vicious things.

"Am I talking nonsense?"

An Lu sneered: "Who doesn't know that your family is dirt poor? What can my sister get from following you besides suffering? I think you are just selfish. For your own sake, you would rather let my sister stay in this poor mountain village for the rest of her life."

Looking at all this, An Min knew that An Lu wanted to embarrass her in front of everyone.

“Liang Yi and I are very happy in Baiyanggou. We don’t need to rely on anyone.”

"On the contrary, it was you who made me go with you so that you could use me to blackmail Liang Yi, right? Do you really think I didn't know what you did?"

Upon hearing An Min's words, An Lu immediately retorted, "Sister, how can you say that? I'm your own sister, how could I harm you?"

“My own sister?” An Min sneered and approached An Lu.

"If I remember correctly, back then, you targeted me and Liang Yi at every turn because of Qian Xue, and even tried to get Liang Yi dismissed from his job. Don't you feel ashamed saying these things now?"

An Lu was speechless after being spoken to by An Min, her face turning pale and then red.

She never expected Anmin to bring this up in front of so many people.

An Lu came to her senses and, seeing the suspicious looks in her neighbors' eyes, became even angrier.

She knew that if she didn't say something soon, it might be too late to salvage the situation.

Her eyes darted around, and suddenly she burst into tears.

“Sister, I know you’re still blaming me. But I’m doing this for your own good. I’m doing well in Hong Kong, but look here. If you follow him, you’ll only be able to stay in this poor mountain village for the rest of your life, living a life of toiling in the fields.”

Are you really content to live like this for the rest of your life?

As she cried, she looked at Anmin and said, "Come back to Hong Kong with me, sister. I promise I'll take good care of you and the children. Wouldn't it be great if we, sisters, could create something of our own in Hong Kong together?"

Anmin felt disgusted looking at Anlu's hypocritical act.

She knew that Anlu's words were all meant to tempt her and make her give up her current life.

“An Lu, stop acting. I’ve already called the police. If you don’t leave, the police will come and arrest you.”

Seeing that An Min was unyielding, An Lu finally broke off all pretense of civility.

She never expected that Anmin would call the police to arrest her.

She had originally thought that if she said a few kind words in a humble tone and coaxed Anmin, Anmin would come with her.

By taking An Min away, Liang Yi was essentially giving her orders.

"Call the police? Anmin, who are you trying to scare? Do the police here even know who I am? When they come, I'll let them judge for themselves and see if it's you, the ungrateful older sister, who's heartless, or me, the younger sister, who's been foolishly devoted to you!"

These words exploded like a thunderclap in the crowd, and the envy on the neighbors' faces instantly turned into astonishment.

Aunt Wang took two steps forward and pointed at An Lu's nose.

"How can you talk like that, girl?"

An Lu scoffed, her eyes sweeping over the crowd of onlookers.

"Anmin, since you're so stubborn, I won't hold back next time we meet."

“Anlu, I’m reminding you one last time: what you’re doing right now is illegal and criminal.”

That Mr. Qin is not a clean person at all. What can An Lu get by following him?
However, Anmin felt that Anlu would not listen to her advice.

Anlu felt as if she had heard the biggest joke in the world.

"Breaking the law? Anmin, who are you trying to scare? Do you know how extensive Mr. Qin's connections are in Hong Kong?"

"Even if I did something wrong here, he could get me out with a single word. How dare he talk to me about the law?"

Anmin looked at Anlu's perfectly pressed cheongsam and the dazzling gold bracelet on her wrist.

“Anlu, do you really think that just because you’re dressed up, you’re better than us? But everyone here lives a stable and comfortable life, which is much better than those potted plants that can only bloom in a greenhouse by relying on others’ charity.”

These words were met with nods of agreement from the surrounding neighbors.

Aunt Wang spat on the ground: "That's right, some people wear fine clothes but have black hearts. The couple is living a peaceful life here, what business is it of yours? Why do you have to come and interfere?"
