Chapter 128 Su Mingyan Discovers Huo Jingcheng

Chapter 128 Su Mingyan Discovers Huo Jingcheng
It was already dark when the streetlights along the road came on. In the summer night, a cool breeze was blowing, and strands of hair brushed against Su Ruoyun's cheeks, her expression revealing a hint of hesitation.

She asked uncertainly, "Is it the Shunping area?"

Old Master Su had mentioned it to Old Madam Su, and upon hearing this, Old Madam Su paused in her hand, which was holding the prayer beads, her fingertips hovering in mid-air. She turned her head and said, "You know about it too?"

Upon hearing this, Su Ruoyun's hesitation vanished instantly. She was certain that it was the place Huo Jingcheng had mentioned when they set off fireworks that night.

She mumbled a "hmm" through her teeth, holding onto Old Madam Su's arm with both hands, keeping her head down and her gaze fixed on the ground, not daring to let Old Madam Su notice anything unusual.

Madam Su sighed softly and said leisurely, "It's good for him to experience some setbacks, so he won't always be so arrogant."

"My brother is arrogant?" Upon hearing this, Su Ruoyun raised her head, her eyes full of confusion, and turned to ask in return.

She blinked, her long, curled eyelashes trembling slightly. In her eyes, her brother didn't have the arrogance and prejudice of those scions of wealthy families.

"Something that's ingrained in one's very being," said Madam Su softly, her voice gentle.

As she spoke, she raised her hand and patted Su Ruoyun's hand, her warm, dry palm covering the back of her hand with indescribable kindness.

The grandfather and grandson walked along the winding path, around most of the courtyard. Along the way, the flower beds in the courtyard were filled with various flowers and plants swaying gracefully, and the tall trees were lush and verdant. The environment was quiet and secluded, with cicadas chirping all around.

When they returned, they saw Su Mingyan and Old Master Su sitting opposite each other in the living room, playing a game of chess with black and white pieces crisscrossing on the board.

Madam Su glanced up at the Chinese-style wall clock; it was already past 9:30 PM. She then carefully examined the chessboard; the white and black pieces were locked in a stalemate, with no clear winner. She urged, "It's getting late. Let's finish this quickly; it'll be past 10 PM by the time you get home."

The military compound and Su Mingyan's villa and Su Ruoyun's apartment are quite far apart.

Upon hearing this, Old Su immediately put down the black chess piece in his hand, placed his hands on the armrests of the armchair, stood up readily, and took off his reading glasses hanging on the bridge of his nose. "Alright, alright, I'm not playing anymore, I'm going to sleep."

"..." Su Mingyan.

Su Ruoyun stood to the side, itching to join in. She pursed her lips and tentatively asked, "How about I keep you company and continue?"

Upon hearing this, Su Mingyan lifted his eyelids and glanced at her, and even Old Master Su and Old Madam Su turned around.

After a long pause, Su Mingyan calmly raised his hand, slowly placing the chess pieces back into the jar, and sneered, "Don't you know your own skill level?"

Upon hearing this, Su Ruoyun was stunned for a while, then gave a dry "hehe" sound, thinking to herself: Sure enough, her brother is still a bit arrogant and prejudiced.

……

On the way back, Su Ruoyun got into the Maybach because she had something to say to Su Mingyan, while her own Mercedes was driven back to the apartment by the driver.

The Maybach drove in front, and the Mercedes followed behind.

The Maybach's taillights disappeared behind the tall, upright cypress trees along the roadside as it drove out of the heavily guarded compound, with several soldiers standing guard at the gate watching it go.

Su Mingyan held the steering wheel with his left hand, and the windows on both sides were completely rolled down. The night wind blowing in made his sleeves flutter, outlining the muscles in his arms.

Su Ruoyun was still comforting her older brother: "Actually, it's not a big deal. You won that cooperation project from him last time, so it's even now. Don't keep holding a grudge..."

Her words, carried on the evening breeze, drifted to Su Mingyan's ears.

His thin lips pressed into a straight line, and after a long while, he tugged at the corner of his lips, revealing a subtle, cold smile. "But this time, the partner he chose is not Hengfeng."

In the previous western energy development project, Hengfeng selected Bank of China as its partner, but this time, when Bank of China won the bid, Huo Jingcheng did not choose Su Mingyan as his partner.

"..." Su Ruoyun. Oh no, her older brother seems even angrier.

This time, Su Ruoyun really didn't know how to defend Huo Jingcheng.

She took a barely audible breath.

A dozen minutes later, the Maybach drove into the apartment complex. Building No. 7 was right in front of them. Su Ruoyun picked up the paper bag next to her leg. It contained Ruby Roman grapes that she had taken from the compound.

She raised her hand to cover her mouth, yawned, and turned to look out the window. Out of the corner of her eye, she glanced at another parked car. Its appearance seemed somewhat familiar, but Su Ruoyun didn't think much of it.

She turned around and reached out to unbuckle her seatbelt.

Just then, the image of that luxury car flashed back into Su Ruoyun's mind, making her suddenly realize that the car seemed, appeared to be, and looked like someone else's.

The thought popped into her mind, and Su Ruoyun opened her eyes wide, suddenly turning her head to look out the window again, her gaze quickly sweeping over the luxury car.

Three seconds later, she closed her eyes in despair, leaned her head back against the headrest, and tilted it to one side.

Very well, she's doomed.

Her survival instincts made her restless, and Su Ruoyun nervously swallowed. "Big brother, let's stop here. I can walk in by myself. It'll be good for digestion and won't keep you from going back to sleep."

Su Mingyan glanced at her sideways, "It won't make a difference if it's just a few seconds."

As he spoke, the Maybach drove around the corner, entered the parking lane, and came to a smooth stop in front of Building No. 7.

Su Ruoyun just wanted to escape immediately, and said quickly, "Big brother, I'll go up first. You must be tired too, go back to sleep early, bye-bye."

As she spoke, she was about to open the door and get out of the car, but...

"and many more."

The deep voice reached Su Ruoyun's ears, and she gasped for breath.

Su Mingyan had also spotted the black Cullinan parked ahead. He narrowed his eyes and asked coldly, "Is that car his?"

"Huh? Whose? I don't know!" Su Ruoyun was a master at playing dumb. After saying that, she turned her head and quickly glanced at Su Mingyan.

The emotions in his eyes flashed too quickly for Su Ruoyun to catch.

She cleared her throat awkwardly. "Then I'll go down first."

Before Su Mingyan could respond, Su Ruoyun pushed open the car door and got out, slamming the door shut behind her.

Taking advantage of the darkness, while still inside the car, Su Mingyan frantically winked at Huo Jingcheng as he approached.

Meanwhile, Su Mingyan, still sitting in the driver's seat, unfastened his seatbelt. With a "click," the seatbelt snapped back. He reached out and opened the car door, extending one long leg out of the car before stepping off the ground.

He stood tall and straight beside the car, his slender fingers brushing against his collar, dusting off non-existent dust, exuding an air of nonchalant nobility.

Then, he strode towards Huo Jingcheng.
