Chapter 101 Stand Up on Your Own

Hearing that her mother-in-law had something to say to her, Liu Qinghe turned her head to look at her.

"Mom, tell me."

"Qinghe, if Mom does anything wrong in the future, just point it out. Don't suffer alone. If you're unhappy about something, make a fuss."

Ma Aiying spoke with a serious expression.

Liu Qinghe looked at her in confusion, "Mom, what's wrong with you? Why are you suddenly saying these things?"

"It's nothing. Mom is getting old and sometimes she gets confused. If she does anything foolish, please tell me and I'll correct it."

"You are a filial and good child. It is my blessing to be your daughter-in-law. I am getting old and all I want is for our family to live in harmony."

Ma Aiying spoke her mind.

She's a very easygoing person, with a sharp tongue but a kind heart. Even though she's quite satisfied with her daughter-in-law Liu Qinghe, she rarely says anything to praise her.

This is the first time in history that I've praised Liu Qinghe in front of her.

Liu Qinghe blinked. Although she didn't know what was wrong with her mother-in-law today, she liked her mother-in-law very much.

Who doesn't like to hear compliments?
"Mom, you've done so well, really. It's my blessing to have a mother-in-law like you."

"Oh dear, why are we getting all lovey-dovey? Go eat in the main room, it's getting cold."

Liu Qinghe was also clumsy with words and not good at saying compliments. After she finished speaking, she quickly pushed Ma Aiying out of the kitchen.

Once she was alone in the kitchen, Liu Qinghe casually picked up a palm-leaf fan and fanned her slightly flushed face.

"Seriously, what's wrong with Mom today? Why is she suddenly praising people out of the blue?"

Liu Qinghe muttered a couple of things, and the corners of her mouth involuntarily curved up.

She had seven siblings in her family, and she was the third oldest. It is said that the eldest is the closest, the youngest is the most doted on, and the one in the middle suffers all the mistreatment.

She never really had a presence in her parents' home; at least they didn't let her go hungry.

But after she got married, her mother-in-law consulted her on everything, and Liu Qinghe realized what it felt like to be valued.

Today, her mother-in-law unusually praised her for being filial and sensible to her face, which warmed Liu Qinghe's heart.

She was always worried that she had done something wrong and that her mother-in-law didn't like her.

Today's conversation has unknowingly brought the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law closer together.

After Ma Aiying finished eating, she cleaned up the dishes, and Liu Qinghe also cooked brown sugar millet porridge and eggs.

She also cooked some rice porridge for Xu Cuicui's daughter to eat first.

Ma Aiying packed the millet porridge and rice paste into an aluminum lunchbox and rushed to the hospital.

The director of the Women's Federation was talking to Xu Cuicui in the delivery room. After arriving at the hospital, Song Jinyue also went to the delivery room to check on Xu Cuicui's condition as soon as possible.

"Your blood pressure and pulse are normal, and there's not much bleeding from the wound, so there's nothing to worry about."

After examining Xu Cuicui's condition, Song Jinyue put away the blood pressure monitor and instructed her, "You've just had a cesarean section, so it will be a little difficult for you to get out of bed for the next few days. You'll feel less pain in a week or two."

Xu Cuicui looked at her with gratitude, "Dr. Song, thank you."

In the morning, Xu Cuicui was in so much pain that she wanted to jump off a building. If Song Jinyue hadn't performed a cesarean section on her, both she and the baby in her womb would have been in mortal danger.

"You're welcome. It's my duty as a doctor. If you feel unwell, just let someone call me."

"Okay, Dr. Song, you can go ahead and get busy."

Song Jinyue nodded and turned to look at the Women's Federation director beside her, "I'll leave this to the director."

"No trouble at all, Jin Yue, you go ahead and get busy. I'll stay here with you." Just as Song Jin Yue left the delivery room, Ma Ai Ying came in carrying a lunchbox.

"Cui Cui, are you starving? Come and eat something. Qing He has boiled some eggs and made millet porridge with brown sugar. It's good for replenishing your energy."

"You don't have breast milk right now, so let the baby drink some rice cereal first."

When Ma Aiying came in, Xu Cuicui subconsciously looked behind her, but did not see her mother-in-law Luo Shufen.

"Auntie, does my mother-in-law know that I gave birth to the child?"

When Luo Shufen was mentioned, Ma Aiying's expression turned somewhat unpleasant.

"Let's not talk about her for now. Don't worry, your Aunt Guixiang and I will take turns taking care of you these next few days."

Xu Cuicui had just undergone a cesarean section, and emotional fluctuations could aggravate her wound. Ma Aiying did not mention a single word of the infuriating things Luo Shufen had said earlier.

After hearing her words, Xu Cuicui roughly understood the situation.

She gave a self-deprecating smile. "I knew she wouldn't come to take care of me. My mother-in-law has always wanted a grandson. It's my fault for not being able to give birth to a son. It's only right that my mother-in-law blames me."

Hearing Xu Cuicui belittle herself, Ma Aiying and the director of the Women's Federation looked at each other with disappointment and frustration.

“Cuicui, you can’t say that. Whether it’s a son or a daughter, they are all from the Li family. Besides, what’s wrong with a daughter? A little cotton-padded jacket is sweet and caring. You and Sangen are still young. If you want a son, you can have one later.”

The concept of raising children to provide for one's old age is a long-standing tradition that is deeply ingrained in people's minds.

"Yes, Cui Cui, if even you look down on yourself, then others will take you even less seriously. You are just too soft-hearted, which is why you are constantly tormented by your mother-in-law."

“I heard that your second sister-in-law is a shrew. Your mother-in-law doesn’t dare to utter a word in front of her. If you don’t want to live half your life being tormented by your mother-in-law, you have to be tough yourself first.”

The director of the Women's Federation earnestly advised them.

Xu Cuicui was like a lump of mud before; even if they wanted to help her up, they couldn't.

This incident has blown up too much. As the director of the Women's Federation, she was able to step in and stand up for Xu Cuicui. However, Xu Cuicui lived under the same roof as Luo Shufen, so there were always times when she couldn't see or protect her.

Xu Cuicui bit her lower lip, her gaze resolute, and said, "I understand. Even for the sake of my child, I will stand firm from now on and never let my mother-in-law continue to abuse my child."

A mother's love makes her strong. Xu Cuicui knew that her mother-in-law favored sons over daughters. In order to prevent her daughter from being mistreated by her mother-in-law like she had, she had to be tough.

After seeing her attitude, the director of the Women's Federation and Ma Aiying exchanged a glance.

“That’s right, Cui Cui. If you have any difficulties in the future, just tell your aunt. Don’t be shy about asking me for help.”

"Auntie, Director, thank you so much. If it weren't for your help today, my child and I probably wouldn't have made it through."

Xu Cuicui's eyes were red, but she felt a sense of comfort in her heart.

"Why are you crying again? Stop crying. You're a patient right now, and you can't let your emotions get the better of you."

As Ma Aiying spoke, she wiped away her tears and placed the millet porridge in front of her.

Three days later, Li Sangen returned.

"Mom, Cuicui, I'm back."

"Sangen is back. There's food in the kitchen. Go and eat."

Luo Shufen came out of the house.

"Mom, where's Cuicui?"

In the past, Xu Cuicui was always the first to come out and greet him when he returned, but he didn't see her today, so Li Sangen asked her about it.

"She's in the hospital with that good-for-nothing!"
