Chapter 97 The Lion's Mark

Mount Wutai, one of the four sacred Buddhist mountains in China, is the sacred site of Manjushri Bodhisattva. It is hailed as the pinnacle of all Buddhist schools and the foremost of all religions.

It is formed by five peaks surrounding it. The five peaks are high and the tops are flat and broad, resembling stone platforms. Therefore, it is called "Wutai Mountain"!
There are also five major Zen temples on Mount Wutai: Xiantong Temple, Tayuan Temple, Wenshu Temple, Shuxiang Temple, and Longhu Temple.

Although not as famous as Lingyin Temple or Shaolin Temple, the five temples have always stood together and are well-known in the world of supernatural beings.

And like them, there are also the three temples of Putuo Mountain, etc.

Han Yun's first stop was Wenshu Temple, which inherited the Fearless Lion Seal.

The green lion dispels afflictions, the white elephant walks steadily, the brave golden-haired lion roars, and the wise listener is the one who hears the truth. The four great bodhisattvas each have their own four mounts, symbolizing different Dharma gates.

Legend has it that the Green Lion became Manjushri Bodhisattva's mount because its roar would cause all the demons of afflictions to suffer from splitting headaches, or die and flee.

Hence the saying that the roar of the green lion can shatter three thousand afflictions. Its might and fearlessness terrify demons and their wrath.

Han Yun stood still in front of the gate of Wenshu Temple.

Looking up, one sees the green lion statues on both sides of the temple gate with their eyes wide open and fangs bared, as if they are about to pounce and kill evil spirits.

A monk, who was in charge of receiving guests, waited at the door, put his palms together in a gesture of respect, and said, "Amitabha, may I ask where you have come from, benefactor?"

Han Yun returned the greeting and said, "I am a disciple of the Lingbao Sect of Gezao Mountain. I have come here to visit the five major Zen temples of Wutai Mountain and to seek guidance and teachings."

Since Han Yun received the inheritance from Grandmaster Ge Hong, there's nothing wrong with him claiming to be from the Lingbao School.

Upon hearing this, the monk in charge of receiving guests led Han Yun through the many halls and courtyards to a meditation room in the backyard to wait for him. Then he went to inform the abbot of the temple.

Abbot Huide of Wenshu Temple, with his white beard and eyebrows, was sitting cross-legged on a futon, chanting sutras with his eyes closed. Upon hearing the words of the guest monk, he slowly opened his eyes. His gaze was as calm as an ancient well, but deep within his eyes, it seemed to conceal endless wrath.

"Disciples of the Lingbao Sect?"

Zen Master Huide pondered for a moment, then slowly rose and said with a flick of his sleeve, "Please let him in."

The monk in charge of receiving the order left, and soon Han Yun was led into the meditation room.

The air in the meditation room was filled with the fragrance of sandalwood. Zen Master Huide sat upright on a futon, his eyes slightly closed, as if he were in deep meditation.

Han Yun stepped forward, bowed, and said, "Han Yun of Lingbao greets Zen Master Huide."

Zen Master Huide opened his eyes, his gaze sharp as torches. He nodded slightly and said, "Amitabha. Although the Lingbao School and my Wutai Mountain are not of the same lineage, they are both major orthodox schools. May I ask what brings you here, benefactor?"

Han Yun frankly said, "My path of cultivation is still shallow. I have heard that the five major Zen temples of Mount Wutai each have their own strengths, so I have come here to seek your guidance in order to broaden my knowledge and improve my cultivation."

Upon hearing this, Zen Master Huide's eyes flashed with approval: "Excellent, excellent. Those who cultivate themselves should learn from the strengths of all schools of thought in order to attain the Great Way."

"However, Buddhism and Taoism are ultimately two separate schools. You have come to my Wenshu Temple seeking instruction, but perhaps you have come to the wrong place?"

Han Yun smiled and said, "That's right, I want to see your temple's Fearless Lion Seal. I also have a method that I would like to verify with your temple's tradition."

Upon hearing this, Zen Master Huide's eyebrows twitched slightly, and a hint of surprise flashed in his eyes.

He slowly rose, gently turning the prayer beads in his hand, and said in a deep voice, "Since you know that the Fearless Lion Seal is the sacred mudra of our Manjushri Temple, you still dare to speak frankly and confirm it. You certainly have considerable courage."

Han Yun, neither humble nor arrogant, cupped his hands and said, "Master Huide flatters me. The Way is boundless, and all paths lead to the same destination. I humbly request your guidance." Master Huide pondered for a moment, then suddenly laughed loudly, "What a wonderful saying about all paths leading to the same destination! In that case, this old monk will discuss the Way with you."

After saying this, Zen Master Huide and Han Yun arrived at a martial arts training ground.

Unlike the peaceful atmosphere of the temple, the martial arts arena was filled with a chilling and murderous aura.

Master Huide raised his right arm, palm facing outward, four fingers outstretched like a lion's claw, and a low lion's roar could be faintly heard from his throat.

He said in a deep voice: "The Fearless Lion Seal, with the heart as the lion and the will as the roar, breaks through all falsehoods and afflictions, and dispels the ignorance in the hearts of all beings. Benefactor, behold!"

Before he finished speaking, the Zen master changed his hand seal, and a powerful aura suddenly erupted, as if a phantom of a green lion had appeared behind him, roaring angrily and shaking the four directions!
In an instant, Han Yun felt a deafening roar in his ears, as if a thousand troubles and demons were rushing towards him. If it were an ordinary person, their mind would surely be on the verge of collapse, but Han Yun was different.

Han Yun stood still, unmoved, letting the azure air currents brush against his face.

Just as Zen Master Huide's Fearless Lion Seal was at its most powerful, a glint flashed in Han Yun's eyes, and he softly uttered, "Taiyi Lion Technique!"

In an instant, Han Yun was surrounded by a burst of golden light, and a phantom of a golden-maned lion leaped out from behind him, roaring to the sky!

This is precisely the Heavenly Gang Dharma Form that Han Yun had previously comprehended. Combined with the changes in the Heng and Ha Qi, it manifests such wondrous phenomena. It's just that the name has changed; the essence remains the same.

However, Han Yun did not use his full strength. If he had gone all out, he would probably have destroyed the entire temple. Han Yun came to learn the Dharma and exchange skills, not to make enemies.

Just a token gesture will suffice.

The lion's roar was like a thunderclap, rivaling the fearless lion seal of Zen Master Huide. The two powerful auras collided violently in the center of the training ground, creating waves of air that shook the ancient pines around them.

Master Huide's eyes flashed with a sharp light, and his hand seals changed again. The phantom of the green lion suddenly pounced out, heading straight for Han Yun!

Han Yun remained calm and composed. With a thought, the golden lion roared and charged forward. The two lion shadows collided violently in mid-air. In an instant, Buddhist light and Daoist energy intertwined, causing the entire martial arts arena to tremble slightly!
However, just as the two sides were locked in a stalemate, Han Yun suddenly raised the corners of his mouth and quietly changed the hand seal.

"Roar!!!"

The golden lion suddenly opened its mouth and bit the green lion's neck, tearing it apart!

Zen Master Huide let out a muffled groan, taking three steps back, his eyes filled with shock: "This...how is this possible?"

Han Yun stopped his stance, stood up, and cupped his hands, saying, "Master, you flatter me."

Zen Master Huide took a deep breath, suppressing his surging blood and qi, and said in a deep voice, "Your Taiyi Lion Technique can actually break my Fearless Lion Seal?"

Han Yun smiled slightly: "It's not about breaking the law, but about complementing each other. The Fearless Lion Seal uses its power to break through afflictions, which is a mental aspect, while the Taiyi Lion Seal uses its strength to suppress evil spirits, which is a Qi aspect. The two are fundamentally different."

"The Zen Master's fearless lion's roar had no effect on me, but my Taiyi Lion Technique can take form with Qi and attack physical objects."

Zen Master Huide nodded, seemingly enlightened: "Amitabha, it was I who was attached to appearances!"

In fact, besides being a means of attack, the Fearless Lion Seal is also manifested more in one's own cultivation. It can dispel the illusions in one's heart, give one's heart the fearless Buddha's will, and encourage one to be courageous and diligent in one's cultivation.

To put it simply, it's actually a kind of sexual cultivation method that can subdue inner demons, quell afflictions, and bring peace and freedom.
