Chapter 382 The Sun: A Persistent Ominous Premonition
Chapter 382 The Sun: A Persistent Ominous Premonition
The Risk Mitigator sensor is a special guest on Earth.
It neither eats, drinks, sleeps, nor moves, politely declining all invitations from human governments, and sits quietly on the roof of a house somewhere in Liming Village, Lijiang, Yunnan, China.
It has remained completely unchanged for a year.
This is the place on Earth where you can observe the most sunrises in a single day.
Around the winter solstice, for about 15 days, due to the obstruction of three successively rising mountain peaks, three sunrises and three sunsets can be seen on the same day.
But today, the peaceful life of the risk-mitigator sensors is destined to be disrupted.
"Hey, you two, the higher-ups have given instructions that outsiders are not allowed to disturb the risk relief workers. You should at least get authorization from the government. If you insist on going your own way, I'll be punished."
Volunteers from the Risk Remover Protection Association and the Earth Risk Remover Organization (ERO) formed a circle, trying to stop the two uninvited guests who kept moving forward.
Unfortunately, neither bulldozing nor aircraft carrier arresting cables could stop their advance.
Waves gently pushed away all obstacles from the inside out.
The visitors were Luo Ji, Ding Yi, and Little Moss.
But the little moss seemed to be turned off, following behind the two like a puppet, without saying a word or glancing around.
Ding Yi glanced at the group of volunteers and muttered under his breath, "Earth is becoming a den of alien organizations and enthusiasts. ETO is one thing, but ERO, EPO, EDO... what kind of nonsense is this?"
Luo Ji said, "Don't worry about them. They're different from ETO. Some of them are even rubbing against mushrooms and dinosaurs. I'll fly on my sword later. You hold on tight. We need to get there before the government sends people to stop us."
Ding Yi was shocked: "I know people who control dinosaurs, but people who control mushrooms?"
A sea-blue longsword rapidly grew larger, steadily supporting the three of them, and then began to float in the air.
"It's a legacy issue. I remember there was a netizen with the ID 'Everyone Can Control the Giant Mushroom' who created a mutual aid association for human enthusiasts. He advocated that all civil behaviors between humans and dinosaurs be legal, such as human-dinosaur intermarriage. It caused quite a stir, but it was obvious to everyone that he actually wanted to communicate with the glowing Puji—but he had to get past the dinosaurs first."
Ding Yi, who has dedicated his life to honest scientific research, feels that his worldview is being repeatedly refreshed.
"Then the same to them?" Ding Yi pointed to the fanatical followers below.
"Yes. The Earth Risk Removers organization is similar—they think the dark-skinned risk removers are 'very perceptive,' extremely possessive, and don't let anyone get close. This just happens to fit the government's need to maintain order, so they put them in charge of stopping tourists."
Soon, Luo Ji, riding the newly refined Canghai Sword, led Ding Yi and Little Moss away from the people's obstruction and flew towards the roof.
After arriving at the rooftop where the hazard removers were located, Luo Ji also set up a small array that he had learned from Luo Qingxin to keep those outside. The array was very strong, and even a heavy excavator could not dig it open.
They saw the risk removers.
It still largely retains its human form, but its entire body is a deep, pure black that absorbs all light, like a three-dimensional black hole. It is only dressed in ordinary human clothing, which is not sucked in but is simply draped over its body. It has no facial features and no recognizable expression.
Luo Ji and Ding Yi stood in front of it, one after the other.
The little moss hid behind Luo Ji, seemingly somewhat afraid of the risk-taker.
"How should I greet him?" Ding Yi asked Luo Ji in an extremely soft voice, almost like the friction of air currents.
"How would I know?" Luo Ji replied in a low voice, his gaze fixed on the black humanoid figure in front of him. "This is the first time I've seen it. Didn't you see it once before? When it first came to Earth."
“Don’t even mention it,” Ding Yi said with a hint of helplessness. “That time, that old bastard Luo Qing knocked me out. When I woke up, the accelerator and the altar were all gone, leaving only a patch of green grass.” Just as the two were exchanging whispers, the third sunrise in Dawn Village came to a complete end, the sun fully rising into the sky. The sunrise watcher seemed finally satisfied, slowly turning around to face the three unexpected visitors with his pure black face that seemed to devour the light.
A calm, neutral voice, devoid of any discernible emotion, resonated directly in their minds: "Hello, physicists and cosmologists."
Luo Ji and Ding Yi exchanged a glance. Ding Yi was the physicist, so Luo Ji must be the cosmologist.
The accompanying moss was completely ignored by the risk-eliminating sensor.
"Hello, risk takers." The two greeted each other almost simultaneously.
The pure black humanoid shook its head. "I am not a risk taker. I am just a sensor. You can call me employee number 299792458, or just call me 'sensor'."
Ding Yi stepped forward, speaking with the inquisitive tone characteristic of a physicist: "Mr. Sensor, your employee number happens to be the value of the speed of light in a vacuum. Is that a coincidence?"
The sensor head shifted slightly, as if revealing a smile—although, due to the absolute blackbody properties, any expression was destined to remain unseen.
“I am honored to use this number, which has special significance in your civilization, but it is largely a coincidence under the decimal system. Every civilization has a different definition of the basic physical unit. ‘Meter’ and ‘second’ are not universal constant units in the universe, so it is normal for the unit number and the numerical value to overlap.”
Ding Yi nodded thoughtfully. This explanation was reasonable and aligned with his initial conjecture.
After all, there are more than 300 million sensors in the entire Milky Way, and this sensor is one of the last ones. Its serial number is the last digit of its coordinates, so it is not surprising that it coincides with the speed of light value.
Luo Ji took over the conversation, his tone solemn: "We've come to visit because we have some questions we'd like to ask you."
The sensor 'looked' at Luo Ji: "Cosmologist, we've never seen this before."
"Yes, this is the first time," Luo Ji admitted.
"Then you may not be aware of the rules here. According to the 'knowledge sealing principle,' I cannot answer questions that exceed the cognitive limits of your civilization. In other words, I most likely cannot answer your questions."
Ding Yi lowered his voice and quickly added in Luo Ji's ear: "According to the standards of the Altar of Truth, you will die after you get the answer."
The sensor remained silent, its pure black head nodding slightly, confirming Ding Yi's words.
Luo Ji frowned upon hearing this. His question naturally concerned some of the cosmic issues the others had discussed earlier. Such questions would inevitably involve the principle of knowledge secrecy; otherwise, wouldn't his trip have been in vain?
But it's obviously impossible to risk your life for a few questions.
He hesitated for a moment, then changed his strategy, tentatively speaking: "Mr. Sensor, how about this? I'll ask some questions. If you think these questions involve the principle of sealing, you're free to not answer them. But if... if some of these questions happen to pique your interest, and you feel it's worth discussing, then perhaps you could discuss them? It's just an exchange, not a demand for answers, how about that?"
The sensor turned, taking one last look at the high-hanging sun, its posture seemingly conveying a hint of regret for this star. Then its neutral voice sounded again:
"Sure. Cosmologist, please ask."
Luo Ji gathered his thoughts and asked the first question, which he thought was the simplest and most basic:
"You once conveyed to us the concept that the mathematical logic of the universe is fundamentally self-consistent, but according to the research of some of our scholars, it seems that..."
Luo Ji's words came to an abrupt end.
The sensor suddenly raised a hand, interrupting him. The pure black "face" seemed to be firmly locked onto him. "All the scientists who have received this kind of answer from me, without exception, are dead."
Its tone carried an unquestionable caution: "How do you know all this?"
Luo Ji was speechless for a moment, and his heart sank. He realized that he might have made a huge mistake.
