Daily Spy Life in the Detective Conan World

Chapter 1: The Distillery That Evaded Taxes

Chapter 1: The Distillery That Evaded Taxes

This is my fifth year in the world of Detective Conan.

Xia Chuan stared blankly at the intelligence report in his hand.

[The Sleeping Kogoro Mouri, the second famous detective to emerge in Japan after Shinichi Kudo.]

The intelligence was specifically obtained by Natsukawa through his partner. Five years ago, after encountering Gin during a mission, he had instructed his intelligence partner to keep an eye on Kogoro Mouri in Japan, and now the information had finally arrived.

The story begins.

It has even been going on for some time now.

He had just completed a spy mission when his intelligence partner, Frank, delivered this intelligence.

"Natsukawa, why are you so insistent on asking about this Kogoro Mouri? Do you have a grudge against him? Should I find an assassin in the underworld to take care of him? It seems that Princess Thorn has been active in Japan lately, if you need her."

Frank is a short man with black-rimmed glasses and curly hair. He had been cooperating with the original owner of this body before Xia Chuan transmigrated, and the cooperation continued until Xia Chuan's arrival.

He believed that the other party was partly responsible for his becoming one of the top spies in the underworld.

Frank is the top intelligence dealer in the underworld. He can get Xia Chuan anything he wants. Most of Xia Chuan's missions, intelligence, and weapons are provided by Frank.

Of course, the reason why the original owner and the transmigrated Xia Chuan trusted each other so much was because they grew up in the same orphanage. When they were young, Xia Chuan often stood up for the short and ugly Frank. After they accidentally came into contact with the underworld, they complemented each other.

The two are not blood brothers, but their relationship has surpassed that of blood brothers.

He made a throat-slitting gesture, the meaning of which was clear: Neyzute.

"It's not necessary."

Xia Chuan shook his head in refusal; this was the world of Detective Conan.

Kogoro Mouri can be considered Conan's personal megaphone. The other party is the most important part of the Conan storyline. Even if he really takes action, he will probably fail inexplicably.

Besides, he had no intention of taking action. He had no grudge against Kogoro Mouri; on the contrary, he found the other party quite interesting.

"I plan to retire for a year, go on vacation to Japan, and enjoy the daily life of an ordinary person."

"What! Are you crazy, Xia Chuan? You've just become the most famous spy in the underworld. This is the peak of your career. Why would you retire now?"

Frank's eyes widened, and the water glass in his hand fell to the ground with a clatter.

Thankfully, it's a stainless steel water cup; otherwise, cleaning up the glass shards would be a real hassle.

Going to Japan was something Xia Chuan had planned long ago, but he hadn't mentioned it to Frank. He started paying attention to Japan five years ago when he met Gin, all for this moment.

Having come to the world of Detective Conan, wouldn't it be a waste of the opportunity to travel here if I didn't experience Detective Conan firsthand?

"Come with me, Frank. It's good to take a year off. We haven't had a break since our debut. It's time to relax." Xia Chuan walked up to Frank and patted him on the shoulder. "The girls in Japan are all very gentle. Maybe you can find a girlfriend there."

Upon hearing this, Frank immediately straightened his back, his neck turning red.

Xia Chuan's words really struck a chord with Frank.

Although Frank made a lot of money as an information broker in the underworld, having a girlfriend was always a major problem. He wanted to develop a romantic relationship, but unfortunately, the European and American girls he met only wanted to make money with him.

"There are many women like Yukiko Kudo in Japan!"

Frank is a fan of his washing machine mom; this is the most effective method for him.

Just as Xia Chuan had predicted, Frank said, "In that case, let's take a year off."

"but."

"But what?"

"I just accepted another mission for you. I'm afraid..."

A file fell onto the desktop.

Xia Chuan didn't even look at it and said directly, "It's just a mission, just refuse."

"A request from the IRS is probably not so easy to refuse."

The IRS, the Internal Revenue Service of the United States, is a government agency that is even more terrifying than the FBI and CIA.

There's a saying in the United States: "You can offend anyone but the IRS."

In this country, only two things are constant and inevitable: death and taxes. Even illegal income, like drug trafficking, is subject to taxation. If you don't pay taxes, the IRS will dare to park armed helicopters and fighter jets right at your doorstep.

The two famous lessons left by the notorious mob boss Capone before his death are regarded as golden rules by all American gangs: First, heavy machine guns are more effective than submachine guns; second, taxes must be paid to the IRS on time.

"You haven't already taken the money, have you?" Frank nodded silently, not daring to look up at Xia Chuan.

Xia Chuan's lips twitched involuntarily. In the underworld, accepting a deposit in a transaction means accepting a mission. Once a mission is accepted, there are only two outcomes: completing the mission or dying during the mission.

Once accepted, it cannot be refused, because the intelligence has already been received.

Of course, some people will kill their clients, and once the client is dead, the matter will be dropped.

But this time the client is the IRS! A US government department; as long as this country exists, you can't kill all the people in this department.

"Fine, I'll just accept it."

Now that things have come to this, Natsukawa can only accept his fate. As long as he can finish the mission quickly, that's fine. Kogoro Mouri has only recently become famous, and the story is still in its early stages. It's okay to delay a little time.

Xia Chuan opened the file and began browsing the task information.

The IRS is investigating a brewery.

The document's description is quite simple: a mysterious organization in the underworld, codenamed after alcohol, has engaged in numerous illegal transactions in the United States, none of which have been taxed.

For this reason, they sent agents to infiltrate this mysterious black-clad organization to investigate taxes.

The results were encouraging.

The agent was discovered, his body mangled beyond recognition, but that's not important. What's important is that before his death, this agent relayed crucial information to the IRS: this mysterious black-clad organization's illegal transactions in the United States amounted to tens of billions of dollars, all of which were tax-free.

Illegal transactions have nothing to do with the IRS, but not paying taxes does. The amount of tax evasion is as high as billions of dollars. Isn't this a blatant slap in the face to the IRS?

However, unable to pinpoint the organization's location and key personnel, the IRS's armed forces had nowhere to vent their frustration.

Therefore, the IRS hired Frank, the most famous spy in the underworld, 'Twilight,' to investigate the matter.

The task has two requirements:

First, find out the true identity of the organization's boss and notify him to pay the outstanding taxes.

Second, find out the organization's financial accounts, provide information on the organization's industries around the world, and then inform the IRS.

After reading the mission requirements, Xia Chuan let out a deep breath. He hadn't expected that he would still have some connection with the brewery after all this time. But that was fine too, at least his plan to go to Japan could proceed as scheduled.

The task is not simple; the first step is to find out the boss's identity.

According to Natsukawa's knowledge, the boss of the brewery should be Karasuma Renya, but he's officially dead and hasn't revealed his whereabouts for over a thousand episodes. However, it's not a big problem; based on the principle that good triumphs over evil, he'll eventually be caught by Conan, and then Natsukawa can report him to the IRS.

The second point can be described as either difficult or simple.

The difficulty lies in the fact that the other party doesn't seem to have a financial account. Xia Chuan has watched so many Conan series, yet he still doesn't know who the organization's finances are. Is it Rum? Or is there some mysterious person who hasn't appeared yet?

However, Pisco is someone we can target. His public identity is Kenzo Masuyama, a bigwig in the financial world and chairman of a car company. Since the chairman is a member of the brewery, the car company must be a brewery's property. Using him to deal with the IRS shouldn't be a problem.

As for other industries, Xia Chuan didn't have much of an impression, but it was certain that the brewery researching longevity drugs must have many drug research companies under its umbrella, and it was impossible that it only had the automobile company under Masuyama Kenzo.

Gin is the man who once strafed Tokyo Tower with an armed helicopter; his brewery must be backed by an arms company.

Japan doesn't have many military industrial companies, but Kawasaki and Mitsubishi are highly suspicious, as they are the two giants of Japan's military heavy industry. The Suzuki Group is also suspicious, but after more than a thousand episodes, there seems to be no trace of any connection between them and the brewery.

In the United States, there seems to be no trace of the distillery's activities on the surface, but the amount of money investigated by the IRS is enough to show that the distillery is quite active in the United States. It may be relatively low-key, after all, the United States is a country where you can be shot dead on the spot if you break into a house.

The local people are incredibly fierce.

After analyzing the situation, Xia Chuan's mood improved. He knew his plans wouldn't be disrupted and he could live a spy's daily life in the world of Detective Conan for a while.

He didn't need to worry too much about the distillery. He just needed to wait quietly, and Conan would naturally find out about Karasuma Renya. This mission from the IRS was practically a freebie. Whether Karasuma Renya was dead or alive, whether Japan or the United States handled it or not, didn't matter. All that mattered was getting the information to the IRS.

The IRS won't care about all that. Whether the organization exists or not is irrelevant to them. As long as they can get back the evaded taxes when the distillery is confiscated, that's all that matters. Even if they can't get the money, they can find out if the distillery is colluding with American capital. Then they can throw the evidence in the face of capitalism, and someone will always pay for the taxes.

He thought for a moment and said to Frank, "I want to adopt a child, six years old."

Frank looked at him with a puzzled expression. Xia Chuan's requests were all so strange. He wanted information on Kogoro Mouri, then after looking at the information, he wanted to go on vacation to Japan, and now he wanted to adopt a six-year-old child. What was he trying to do?

Are you planning to settle down in Japan? You said you were on vacation, why are you having kids?
And what about the mission?

This is the IRS, can't you give them some face?

"Don't worry about it, just do it. Besides, the IRS commission and the trip to Japan don't conflict."

Natsukawa's idea was actually quite simple. The Conan storyline had already begun, and the other party must have already enrolled in Teitan Elementary School. Adopting a first-grade child and having him infiltrate the Junior Detective League would make it easier to get involved in the storyline.
