Reborn Cat Sheriff
Chapter 169 Recognizing Dad
Chapter 169 Recognizing Dad
The lynxes went from one to two, but they were still small, and the adult cat wasn't around.
Lin Ge was hesitant to provoke these wild animals; who knew if they carried any viruses or anything like that? Besides, they were protected species, and if he injured or killed them, the responsibility would be too much for his small frame to bear.
So Lingo pretended not to see it, wagged his tail, and turned to leave.
"Woo..."
The two lynxes stared intently at Lin Ge's wagging tail, then looked at each other's short tails before boldly emerging from the grass and stealthily following behind Lin Ge.
Lin Ge's ears twitched twice, his mood somewhat conflicted.
Is he really some kind of doting dad? Otherwise, how could he attract kittens, babies, and lynxes so much?
Despite it being their first meeting, the two little lynxes showed absolutely no fear of him. At first, they followed him from a distance, hiding in the bushes at the slightest sound. But once they realized that Lin Ge didn't seem to pose a threat, the two little rascals grew bolder. They not only openly ran out of the bushes and followed Lin Ge straight behind, but they even gradually closed the distance, until Lin Ge could almost hear the two little guys snoring.
Lin Ge wanted to pretend nothing had happened, but when one of the lynx cubs recklessly came over and nudged his tail, Lin Ge got angry.
Without hesitation, it turned around, slapped the lynx to the ground, then opened its mouth wide, revealing its fangs, and bit the lynx's neck, as if to crush its throat.
"Roar!"
Lin Ge let out a fierce roar.
"嘤嘤......"
The little lynx instantly cowered, lying on the ground with its limbs curled up, and then let out a babyish cry.
But... this thing neither struggled nor tried to escape!
Lingo immediately stopped biting and could only raise his head to glare at the ignorant little guy. After a while, he released his claws and watched as the little guy turned around and got up in a flash.
"Waaaah!"
A pair of round eyes stared at Lin Ge. The little lynx lay down, barking and nuzzling its head toward Lin Ge.
At this moment, another little guy also hopped over, boldly called out to Lin Ge, and then hopped and circled around Lin Ge.
How does this resemble a wild animal?
They are clearly two adorable pets who are not afraid of strangers!
Lin Ge was blocked from moving by the two little ones and could only stand still, letting the two brats rub their heads against him. After a while, they even wanted to smell his butt, which Lin Ge kicked away with his hind leg.
"Woooooooo..."
The little lynx got up looking aggrieved, flicked its short tail, and came back to Lingo.
Then, it turned and walked in another direction. Seeing that Lingo hadn't followed, it turned back and whimpered, signaling Lingo to hurry up and go with it.
The other little guy also tried to push with its head. When Lingo dodged, it stumbled and fell, but still stubbornly urged Lingo towards its companion.
Lingo paused for a moment, then decided to follow.
He suddenly remembered something: the ages of the two lynx cubs seemed a bit off.
Generally speaking, lynxes, or most wild animals, mate in March and April. They then give birth in the summer and raise their young in the autumn, which helps them survive the harsh winter and food shortages.
However, these two appear to be no more than three months old.
It's almost November now, and it's clear that their mother gave birth to them at the wrong time.
The weather is already quite cold, and the first snow in the southern province could fall at any time. How will two three-month-old cubs survive the harsh winter? And how will they cope with the hunger of other wild animals? This is a problem that seems almost unsolvable for wild animals.
Moreover, it was also very strange that the two little ones ran out together while their mother did not appear.
Whether out of compassion or curiosity, Lin Ge decided to follow the two lynx cubs to see what was going on. If the two little guys had already lost their mother, then sending them to the zoo might be a much better option than letting them survive alone in the harsh winter.
In the desolate wilderness, Lin Ge followed two lynx cubs through the grass with his head down. Occasionally, if he was too slow, the two little guys would call out to urge him on.
As he walked, Lin Ge lost track of time. He only knew that the surrounding trees were even more lush, and the vines and thickets of the woods left no gaps, indicating that it had been a place untouched for at least a long time.
Even looking up, you couldn't see the sun; only dappled light filtered through the greenery. The leaves underfoot were mostly decaying, thick and soft, giving Lin Ge a feeling of being stuck in mud.
The two lynxes seemed very familiar with their surroundings, playfully fighting as they burrowed through the grass, appearing quite excited. Occasionally, if they spotted a larger insect on a nearby branch, they would pounce on it without hesitation, snapping it up in one bite and swallowing it whole. This wild energy made Lin Ge's stomach churn.
After running for an unknown amount of time, the two little ones finally got a little tired.
Call out to Lingo, and the two of them find a fallen, withered tree, squatting on the trunk to huddle together and rest. Occasionally, they raise their heads to glance at Lingo, then lick each other's fur, showing their closeness and unity.
Lingo squatted on a thick tree root protruding from the ground, quietly watching this scene.
A moment later, his ears twitched as he heard the sound of tree branches being touched and a strange rubbing sound coming from not far away.
Suddenly, the two lynx cubs' eyes lit up, and they quickly jumped down from the tree and darted into the woods. Before Lin Ge could react and give chase, the two little guys quickly returned, carrying a writhing snake in their mouths as they ran back towards him.
The snake was still alive, but it was being held by a small lynx with its head bitten and its tail bitten by another, and it couldn't break free no matter what it did.
Lynxes are known to be snake predators, let alone two that work together in perfect harmony. The two little guys tore at the snake's body to straighten it, then ran straight to Lin Ge and presented the snake to him like a treasure.
"Give it to me?"
Lin Ge was stunned for a moment. Looking down, he saw the snake trying to run away, so he pressed his paw down on the snake's head.
He's certainly not afraid of snakes; a snake's speed can't keep up with a cat's reaction. Once the fangs are controlled, this thing no longer poses any threat to a cat.
"Whoa!"
The two lynxes barked at Lin Ge twice, seemingly not understanding why he wasn't eating quickly.
When Lin Ge silently pushed the snake toward the two little lynxes, they immediately understood. One of them bit the snake's vital spot without saying a word, chewed it twice, and rendered the snake completely immobile.
The other little creature also started biting at the snake's body, instead of eating the head and tail as Lingo had planned.
While eating, their heads bumped together, and the two little ones immediately put down their food in displeasure and started playing around. After making a mess of the surrounding dry leaves for a while, they finally started snoring and eating again.
In a short while, the snake, which was more than a meter long, fell into the bellies of the two lynxes, leaving only some scraps and bones behind.
Then Lingo followed the two little guys and continued walking. After a while, the two little rascals started making a ruckus again, and after they finished, they affectionately licked each other's fur. Seeing that Lingo was just staring at them without biting, they even ran over to offer to help him.
Lin Ge dodged and refused, but the two little ones didn't mind and continued walking forward after they had played enough.
Soon, they brought Ringo to a place with very dry geology.
The vegetation here is much sparser, and the surface is no longer moist black soil, but a dry, hard layer of gravel. Apart from large trees, some fragile grasses find it difficult to survive in this soil, but thorny vines and thorny-leaved plants still thrive.
"Wow!"
The little lynx called out to Lingo, as if to say that they had finally arrived home.
Lingo did not respond.
Upon arriving at this place, he suddenly smelled the stench of rotting corpses!
What surprised Lin Ge even more was that there wasn't just one rotting corpse; there was another smell, belonging to a lynx. Of course, the other smell was human, which Lin Ge could clearly distinguish, but he didn't know if it was the thing he was looking for today.
A swarm of flies buzzed around them, much to the annoyance of the two lynxes, but their heads and tails were lowered, their mood completely different from before.
After walking a little further, Lin Ge suddenly stopped.
Ahead was a low earthen tomb, its age unknown. Nearby were numerous messy traces—human, animal, and even discarded instant noodle boxes, cigarette butts, and mineral water bottles.
Looking further in, a messy hole had been dug out on the side of the tomb, probably the work of tomb raiders.
More importantly, a dead lynx lay at the entrance of the cave. Its upper body was inside the cave, while the other half of its body was completely rotten, even showing signs of being eaten.
