American comic book: My Father is Superman, am I just an NPC?
Chapter 26 Mysterious Past, The Day Gods Fell
Chapter 26 Mysterious Past, The Day Gods Fell
Ian stood frozen in front of the toilet door.
The woman who walked out from behind her father was reflected in her pupils.
The woman seemed to have noticed him.
“How extraordinary…” The woman, gazing at Ian as if trying to see through him, murmured softly, just as Clark was about to turn back for another look.
In an instant.
The whole world seemed to have lost its color, fading into a black and white hue. Clark remained in the position of turning his head, frozen in place like a sculpture.
Even the air seemed to have stopped moving.
Ian could hear his own rapid heartbeat, which sounded particularly loud in the frozen space-time.
"What did you do?!" He was genuinely shocked. His invincible father was affected without even having to resist, and the power possessed by the strange woman in front of him was far beyond his imagination.
Faced with the boy's shocked question.
"I'm just waiting." The woman tilted her head. She also had a pendant chain around her neck, but what it was was hidden under her black uniform.
"Waiting for what?" Ian believed that the woman was definitely not waiting for a meal. He had not yet built his own business empire in the United States, and what such a powerful woman wanted to do must not be simple.
"Goo~"
Ian's Adam's apple bobbed.
Out of the corner of his eye, he caught a glimpse of his father's petrified profile—even when facing the power of the mystic side, his own superhero father should never have been so powerless.
The woman before him was at least a "god-level" powerhouse. She didn't look very old; she possessed the composure of an older sister, yet also the vitality of a young girl.
These contradictory qualities were intertwined in a harmonious way.
Say something.
Ian found it terrifying.
He looks like an old monster.
What am I waiting for?
The woman did not give a direct response. She slowly walked towards the bay window at the end of the corridor. Her long, pale legs appeared even paler in this black and white world.
"Please allow me to apologize to you, special child." The woman opened the window, looked at the night view outside, raised her hand, and grabbed a withered leaf that was also frozen in mid-air.
“You will lose your father, and I will take him away. Don’t worry, I promise I will take good care of him.” The woman turned to look at Ian and a gentle smile curved her lips.
Ian's mind was racing, and his breathing became increasingly labored.
“You are death…” Some information surged through his mind, causing his heart to tremble. This fear definitely did not originate from the woman in front of him.
It stemmed from something we had guessed.
"You actually know about death?" The woman was clearly taken aback, her tone astonished. She looked Ian over carefully, then climbed over the window and sat on the windowsill.
“No, I’m not Miss Death. How could I be as beautiful, gentle, kind, and approachable as her?” The woman turned the withered leaves in her hand, her tone full of admiration.
Perhaps there's also a sense of longing.
Before Ian could ask again, the woman seemed to know what he wanted to ask.
“My name is Tessa, and I’m just like them.” As she spoke, the woman who called herself Tessa raised her slender, long hand and pointed her pale skin towards the dark night.
There seemed to be something hidden there. And when Ian hesitated for a moment and walked to the woman Tessa's side, his pupils contracted sharply again.
I saw.
The streets were teeming with black figures. All dressed in black suits stood tall and proud in this faded world.
An old woman in the front row held a black umbrella, the ribs of which were stark white. A little boy in overalls held a chick, whose eyes shone with a deep, eerie fire.
There were also solemn-looking men wearing top hats.
There are men, women, young and old here. Not only on the streets, but also on the rooftops of houses and cars, people in black suits stand upright.
They were all staring at Ian. Everyone was expressionless, except for Tessa, who smiled, raised her hand, and waved to the group before they reacted.
It looks very mechanical.
The strange group of people in suits bowed in unison towards the window.
Neatly.
The actions are synchronized.
Their movements were synchronized, as if rehearsed a thousand times. Everyone's skin was as pale as snow, and in this black and white world, the scene looked even more eerie.
“They’re paying tribute to you…the lucky one with this honor.” Tessa glanced at the back of Ian’s hand, as if she could see the brand on it.
They also discovered some information and secrets.
"Um, can you explain what's going on?" Ian looked at the densely packed men in black outside with a chill running down his spine, trying his best to keep his emotions stable.
"To be honest, you all have good looks. How about we start a company together that allows interesting souls to reveal a mysterious past when they get together with their families, leaving all attendees shocked and questioning their existence? I believe we will be very popular."
Forced humor.
Perhaps this was Ian's last act of defiance.
However, his attempt to conceal his emotions clearly failed to fool Tessa.
“I think you figured it out.” Tessa gently rubbed the withered leaf in her hand, and the leaf gradually disappeared in her hand. “You’re just unwilling to admit it yet.”
“My dear little one… don’t be afraid, and don’t be sad.” Tessa reached out to stroke Ian. “Everything has an end. That’s not punishment, but a new beginning.”
Her voice was exceptionally gentle.
However, Ian dodged those pale hands.
"Impossible, how could this be? There must be some mistake... You have no idea..." Ian tried to say something more to refute the claim.
however.
The woman's slender fingers were already pressed against his lips.
“We would never make a mistake about something like this.” Tessa spoke softly, her dark eyes meeting Ian’s. Ian felt a profound depth that made his world spin.
“I am Death, and so are they. There is only one reason for all of us to exist.” Tessa’s voice was gentle and soothing, yet it shattered Ian’s last illusions.
“Your father, Clark Kent, was a man of great respect. So we have come, and at least our neighbors have come, gathered here with love and reverence.”
"God died today."
"The tragedy of a saint, the death of a hero... requires sufficient witness." Tessa's words were like a thunderclap, exploding in Ian's ears and completely shattering the last shred of hope in his heart.
It's like a massive boulder weighing tens of thousands of pounds.
The boy, overwhelmed by the pressure, felt even breathing was difficult.
