American comic book: My Father is Superman, am I just an NPC?
Chapter 21 What about my enormous evil spirit?
Chapter 21 What about my enormous evil spirit?
The cunning strategist uses money to enter the game.
He wanted Ian to be his "tax advisor."
just.
Ian shook his head warily at the suggestion.
"Then wouldn't that make me your accomplice?" He was a true law-abiding citizen who wouldn't stop crimes, but he also had no intention of becoming an accomplice in any way.
What a joke!
He's Ian!
Ian Kent!
Superman's son absolutely cannot associate with criminals! That's the line of thinking. Anyway, in Ian's view, this doesn't contradict his request to return and only ask for a refund.
Refund only.
The only ones who suffer losses are the insurance companies; it's all the evil of capitalism! It's a way of venting the anger of the working class! In this light, it subtly aligns with my dad's superhero spirit in some way.
The logic is perfectly closed.
Ian refused decisively.
just.
"Calculate it for me now, you damn brat!" The black robber clearly couldn't guess Ian's thoughts. He brandished his tightly gripped pistol, threatening Ian once again.
"Knowledge should not be used in this way."
And just as Ian continued to shake his head.
"Beep beep beep~ Beep beep beep~"
suddenly.
The sirens outside the shop were blaring.
It was obvious that police cars were approaching.
"?????"
The black robber was immediately startled. He looked at Ian angrily, "It was you! You were the one who called the police! So you've been stalling me all along!"
"I've already agreed to give you a refund! Why are you still messing with me?!" The robber acted as if he were the victim, his feelings of grievance and anger reaching a fever pitch.
Anyone who didn't know better would think he had suffered some terrible betrayal.
"what?"
Ian was stunned for a moment.
"I don't!"
He told the truth.
"No? Who else could it be but you!"
The robber stared at Ian silently for a moment, then the two of them turned to look at the cashier—who reacted quickly and immediately picked up the cash register in front of him and smashed it at the robber.
The robber was knocked to the ground by the impact, and the pistol in his hand fell to the floor. The cashier quickly flipped over and kicked the pistol under the shelf.
not only that.
He continued to kick the robber in the head until the robber passed out, and he didn't stop until Ian rushed forward to stop him, preventing a robbery from turning into a murder.
“He’s really almost kicked to death by you.” Ian crouched down to check the robber’s breathing, confirming that he had indeed gained +1 merit. He looked up at the young man who was leaning against the side, still trembling.
Are you excited or thrilled?
Ian seemed to be deep in thought.
"Whoo~"
The cashier breathed a sigh of relief.
"Of course I was scared! That was really dangerous; we almost died." He began to express how good it was to be alive, his face showing the relief of someone who had survived a close call.
"Forehead."
Ian glanced silently at the unconscious robber. "He's not really dead, not at all... He was using a fake gun, didn't you realize?"
Yes.
Ian went in and out three times.
Of course, it was because he discovered such a detail that could absolutely guarantee his safety.
however.
"?????"
The cashier was stunned; he had clearly only just found out about it.
"You could figure that out? No way!" The young man ran towards the container in disbelief, lay down on the ground, and pulled out the pistol that had fallen to the bottom of the container.
I checked it briefly.
"Wow, you're absolutely right! It really is a fake gun! The workmanship is exceptionally good, it feels even more expensive than a real gun!" The cashier turned to look at Ian in astonishment.
"Does your family sell guns? How could you notice something amiss?" the cashier asked curiously, perhaps the only explanation he could think of.
"Huh? Isn't this a basic life skill in the metropolis?" Ian asked with a surprised look and a matter-of-fact tone, leaving the cashier speechless.
Basic life skills, you idiot. Who in their right mind would learn this stuff?!
It's not in the next city!
"..."
The atmosphere was a little awkward. The two stared at each other for a full minute before Ian thought for a moment and returned the thirty dollars and forty-five cents he had put in his pocket.
Be honest and upright.
Ian also has his own principles when it comes to taking advantage of others. Now that the robbers have fallen, his previous perfect win-win-win plan obviously no longer has a basis for implementation.
"Keep it, you can."
However, the cashier didn't accept the money. He went back to the cash register, bundled the already sorted money together, and put it in a safe.
"My name is Tate Langton." Perhaps because they had been robbed together, the cashier began to introduce himself, feeling that he and Ian were comrades-in-arms who had gone through thick and thin together.
"Hello, Tate."
Ian was polite, but didn't introduce himself. The cashier, Tate, didn't seem to care much; he simply grabbed a few packets of high-end "family planning" supplies from the shelf.
“Actually, this shop belongs to my dad.” He first explained why he fought back against the robbers, and then explained to Ian what he was doing.
“You’re right, my dad really does have insurance.” After a moment’s hesitation, the cashier took out a few more packs of Camel cigarettes, which are equivalent to Chinese cigarettes in America.
"..."
Ian searched but couldn't find any surveillance footage, so he understood what this guy was doing.
Watch out for theft!
The seemingly honest bespectacled man is anything but honest! This guy is definitely planning to frame the already "executed" robber! Sigh! I guess I'm still a pure white lotus in the metropolis! This robbery didn't result in a win-win-win situation, only a win-win situation, and the world of the wrongly accused robber has been completely rewritten!
Wow, amazing!
Ian felt deeply shocked and gained a new understanding of daily life in the metropolis. He even began to wonder if the shop owner was really the cashier's father.
And at this time.
"Those inside! Hands up!"
The sirens had been ringing for a long time, and the robbers were practically catching a cold from lying on the ground, before the police finally arrived. This wasn't the first time Ian had encountered the police arriving late.
Say something.
They seemed to have a superpower to predict whether things would end or not.
"We are victims! We need blankets!" The cashier raised his hands and spoke to the police officers who entered with guns. He had already hidden quite a few "stolen items."
It seems they have far more experience dealing with robberies than Ian had imagined.
"I'm terrified! I need a car to take me home!" Ian, quick to apply what he had learned, also raised his hands and tried to get free transportation home.
……
Police officers don't usually play the good guy. However, thanks to the "reasonableness of appearance" trope in his character model, Ian eventually received help from a kind policewoman.
The police car pulled up in front of my house.
"Thank you."
Ian also said goodbye to the policewoman who had repeatedly encouraged him to try his luck in Hollywood. He patted his pockets and found that he had an extra dollar in assets than before he bought the food.
Yes, the cashier refunded Ian $30 and 45 cents, but he forgot that he had already given Ian $1 in change after he finished shopping.
Ian's actual bill was only $29.45. Well, it turns out the cashier might have some cleverness, but his mathematical abilities were clearly still at the average American level.
"It's like someone paid a dollar to treat me to a whole bunch of pre-made meals!" Ian was being logically consistent again. He stared at his front door in the distance, slightly hesitant. It wasn't that he hadn't figured out how to explain coming home so late, but rather that he was wondering whether he should bring the evil spirit into his home.
Not only are there potential risks, but it wouldn't be good if Superman's dad found out about it. The main problem is that Ian hasn't figured out how to explain bringing an evil spirit home.
Is it a wish-fulfillment story where someone with extraordinary talent accidentally stumbles into a mysterious mage's temple on the street and is taken in as a disciple by the "Supreme Mage Wang Defa"? Or is it a naive and sweet story where someone thinks they've found a "magic lamp"? Well, no matter how you look at it, it seems like plagiarism.
“What about my writing talent! Get to work! Give me a plausible origin story!” Ian racked his brains, believing that his transformation might be hidden from the first day of the new semester, but not from the sixth.
As for whether or not to reveal the truth, Ian had given it careful consideration. However, compared to the fact that he was a transmigrator with a system, he hesitated.
He felt that his "origin story" should respect the current version.
“However, I can still report being kidnapped by Constantine’s accomplices…” Ian thought to himself as he pulled out the thermos that Charles had previously used to smash him.
The uneven surface of the thermos is proof of Ian's iron will.
"My head is still throbbing, and this evil spirit is awful... Wait, what's going on!" Ian wanted to shake the bottle a few more times to vent his anger on the evil spirit, but he suddenly realized that the thermos seemed to have stopped working, and not only had the inscription on it become blurry.
Even the evil spirits inside have vanished without a trace!
"Where did my huge evil spirit go?! It ran away?" Ian was shocked. He pressed his eyes against the glass to look inside, but there was indeed nothing left in the thermos.
A trick by an evil spirit?
Or did they really run away?
Just as Ian was filled with doubt.
"Ok?"
He was somewhat surprised to find that his chest was shimmering.
I don't know how long it flickered.
Ian quickly pulled out what was under his shirt—and there it was, the pendant Madison had given him, was now emitting a dark, eerie light.
It is very similar in color to the body of an evil spirit.
