Chapter 245 (Short Talk)
"My story is a long one. I was captured and brought here for research." Jiang Mian smiled faintly, as if feeling helpless.

Then she looked up at him and asked, "What are you doing here? Is Lin Xuan here too?"

When Xuan Ji heard Jiang Mian ask about Lin Xuan, he paused for a moment, and the joy he had felt from Jiang Mian taking the initiative to greet him seemed to have dissipated considerably.

But what is it that he cares about?

He and she didn't have much interaction to begin with.

If it weren't for the fact that he used to be Lin Xuan's beast slave, she probably wouldn't have come over to greet him.

His red eyes flickered, his eyelashes drooped slightly, and he spoke softly, "After leaving the exile star, Lin Xuan had already deactivated the chip and let us leave."

Jiang Mian paused. Lin Xuan hadn't mentioned this to her; she assumed Lin Xuan was always with her orc.

Xuan Ji added, "So I don't know how Lin Xuan is doing now."

His tone was calm, as if he were merely reminiscing about a trivial past.

"I see." Jiang Mian nodded thoughtfully.

"Mm," Xuan Ji responded softly.

The two of them fell silent.

Xuan Ji looked down at her, and she looked up at him. For a moment, neither of them spoke.

Just as Jiang Mian was about to say something, Xuan Ji spoke up: "You remember my name."

Jiang Mian instinctively replied, "What's wrong?"

Xuanji shifted his gaze from her face and said very softly, "I just didn't expect that you would remember me."

He and several other orcs watched Lin Xuan from behind.

Of all those orcs, why did she only remember him?
Jiang Mian smiled and said, "I have a deep impression of you."

After all, Lin Xuan's favorite person is him.

He was also the best-looking of those orcs.

"And you also saved me," Jiang Mian added.

He didn't think he was being proactive, but he was already being much more proactive than the other orcs without even realizing it.

"I see." Xuan Ji chuckled very softly.

The air was quiet for a while.

The two of them really didn't seem to have much to talk about.

"Well, how are you now?" Jiang Mian really didn't know what to talk about with him, since they weren't really close, so she just casually asked.

"Not bad," Xuan Ji responded lightly. "I've become a military beast. I'm coming here recently to change into a mechanical body and have a check-up for a few days."

Jiang Mian glanced at him and realized that the mechanical smell she had smelled earlier was not her imagination; the young man actually had mechanical limbs installed on his body.

"Well, then you'll need to change the mechanical body frequently, otherwise the rejection reaction will be very uncomfortable." Jiang Mian smiled politely.

"Mmm," Xuan Ji responded softly.

The two of them fell silent again.

"Well, if there's nothing else, I'll head back to my dorm." Jiang Mian said.

"Okay." Xuanji stood still and responded softly.

Jiang Mian greeted them and turned to leave. After walking a while, she thought of Scarface Beast and decided to let Xuan Ji see her off.

She turned around and was surprised to find Xuan Ji still standing there, as if he had been watching her leave, yet also seemed surprised that she had suddenly turned around. His red eyes flickered slightly.

"What's wrong?" Xuan Ji lowered his gaze and asked gently.

Jiang Mian momentarily forgot her question about why the other person was still standing there. She took a few steps forward, looking a little embarrassed, and said, "Could you please take me there? Just to my dorm building." Xuan Ji looked at her for a moment, then nodded without asking any further questions. "Okay."

So Xuanji escorted Jiang Mian back home.

On the way, in order not to appear awkward or indifferent.

Jiang Mian then took the initiative to speak to him: "I also work in this research institute now, and I have some understanding of the fusion of machinery and beast bodies. If you feel uncomfortable in the future, you can come and find me."

"Okay," Xuan Ji replied.

"By the way, how long have you been here?" Jiang Mian turned her head and glanced at Xuan Ji.

Xuanji paused for a moment before speaking again: "It's been a few months, hasn't it?"

These past few months have been exactly a few months since Jiang Mian left the exile planet.

So along the way, Jiang Mian chatted casually with Xuan Ji for a few minutes, about ordinary topics.

The accommodation building was reached quickly, as the distance was not far and it was just a short walk away.

Jiang Mian hadn't expected that the scarred orc would actually be waiting for her downstairs at the dormitory building.

Downstairs at the dormitory building, a few scarred orcs stood there with a group of other orcs, looking like thugs. The orcs were half-squatting, while the scarred orcs leaned against a pillar.

"Brother, that human is here." One of the orcs quickly got up, walked to the scarred orc's side, and gestured for the scarred orc to look in that direction.

The scarred orc immediately looked up in Jiang Mian's direction and, sure enough, saw Jiang Mian.

"Let's go." With that command, the scarred orc straightened up and strode towards Jiang Mian.

Jiang Mian watched as several orcs walked towards her, her eyebrows twitching slightly. She really hadn't expected them to actually block her way.

"Xuanji, are you okay..." Jiang Mian quietly approached Xuanji and whispered, "I have some injections and I'll help you from the side."

Xuan Ji didn't speak, but simply stepped forward and blocked her way.

The scarred orc led several orcs over. He had been staring fiercely at Jiang Mian, but the next second, one of his figures blocked Jiang Mian's path, causing him to pause slightly, raise his eyes, and look at Xuan Ji.

His eyes twitched again at that sight.

How does Xuanji know this human?
"Hey, Xuanji, you're here too," the scarred orc greeted.

Xuan Ji didn't speak, but his cold gaze fell on the scarred orc.

The scarred orc narrowed his eyes and looked at Xuan Ji for a while. The two remained silent, and the atmosphere became somewhat tense.

It was the scarred orc who spoke first: "Hey, it's all about first come, first served. I had my eye on this human first."

"Shall we have a fight?" Xuan Ji asked directly.

The scarred orc stared at Xuan Ji with a sinister look for a while longer: "What, are you not giving me face?"

"Let's see if you have the ability to get this face." Xuan Ji was also wearing a black bulletproof vest. Like them, he was a military beast, so it was understandable that the two knew each other.

The scarred orc stared at Xuan Ji for a while longer before finally turning away menacingly.

Jiang Mian paused, then breathed a sigh of relief and walked to Xuan Ji's side: "Thank you, Xuan Ji."

She then asked, puzzled, "Do you know each other?"

Otherwise, that military beast wouldn't have said those things; they must know each other.

“He is the captain of Team Seven.” Xuan Ji turned his head to look at her.

"And who are you?" Jiang Mian asked subconsciously.

“I am the captain of the third team,” Xuan Ji replied calmly.
