Chapter 316 Restoring Memory
"Jiang Lanye! Jiang Lanye, wake up!"

He heard Song Yi's exclamation and struggled to open his eyes. He found Song Yi kneeling on the ground, shaking him. Behind her was still the ruins.

It seems like we're missing a heavy rain.

He struggled to raise his hand and stroked Song Yi's cheek.

It seems there was something he should have said before he fainted.

But what were those words?

He couldn't remember at all.

Song Yi choked back tears as she grabbed his hand, "Don't scare me, let's not think about it anymore, let's go back and rest, okay?"

There seemed to be two tears in the corners of her eyes.

She looked very sad and scared.

Jiang Lanye suddenly remembered something and forced a smile, saying, "Don't be afraid, I'm here."

Song Yi's expression went blank for a moment.

Jiang Lanye knew nothing about what happened next.

When he woke up again, he was already lying on the dragon bed. He saw the Empress Dowager, but not Song Yi.

Jiang Lanye immediately sat up, and then felt a splitting headache. Even the slightest movement felt like being pricked by sharp needles.

"Your Majesty, you have finally woken up. You have been unconscious for almost a day."

Jiang Lanye gently touched his forehead, his voice hoarse: "Your subject remembers now, what happened when the pavilion collapsed."

He and Song Yi tried to escape, but the door was blocked from the outside, and stones kept falling down. He protected Song Yi on the stairs, and the wall behind them was about to collapse. After that, he didn't know what happened; his memory of that part was blank.

Then, Song Yi helped him escape, and he fell to the ground.

He wanted to comfort Song Yi, but then he lost his memory.

The Empress Dowager was overjoyed: "Really? That's wonderful! Take your time, don't rush, you'll remember everything sooner or later."

Jiang Lanye didn't listen to the Empress Dowager's words at all, and only asked, "Where is Song Yi?"

The Empress Dowager's smile gradually faded: "Your Majesty, Consort Yun was frightened after you fainted and is resting in the side hall now."

He abruptly threw off the covers and got out of bed: "Where is she?"

The Empress Dowager was somewhat helpless and quickly chased after them.

There was indeed a bed in the adjacent side hall.

Jiang Lanye pushed the door open forcefully and saw Xichun sitting on the edge of the bed taking care of Song Yi, holding a bowl of medicine that Song Yi had just finished drinking.

Hearing the commotion, she turned around and saw Jiang Lanye rushing towards her. She quickly stood up to stop him and whispered:
"Your Majesty, the Empress has finally fallen asleep. Please let her rest more. The imperial physician also said that the Empress needs to rest quietly now."

Jiang Lanye pursed his lips and looked past Xichun at Song Yi.

She was lying quietly on the bed, her face pale, her lips bloodless, her hair falling smoothly to her sides, and the blanket covering her tightly.

He walked over quietly and sat down, gently taking her hand in his, his voice soft: "Why are her hands so cold?"

Seeing this, Xichun sighed helplessly.

"Your Majesty, after you fainted over there, the Empress was traumatized. She was already exhausted these past two days, and then she was frightened by you, which caused her to bleed. She was carried back by the palace servants in a sedan chair."

"The imperial physician said that it was fortunate that Her Majesty had been taking the medicine to prevent miscarriage on time, otherwise this pregnancy would have been difficult to save."

Jiang Lanye's pupils trembled slightly, and he asked with difficulty, "Now?"

"The imperial physician prescribed medicine for Her Majesty, and she just took it. She's so tired that she's fallen asleep."

Seeing this, the Empress Dowager said helplessly, "I was truly terrified; I thought the child was completely lost."

Jiang Lanye looked at her quietly, then lowered his head and kissed the back of her hand: "I'm sorry, it's all my fault."

He still couldn't recall those past memories. But he remembered most of them, with only a small part still elusive.

What should he do?

Looking at the rings on both of their fingers, Jiang Lanye felt a little lost for the first time.

Song Yi was so vulnerable as she lay on the bed.

If the child were to truly die, it would be a significant blow to them.

"Xichun, I want to spend more time with her."

Xichun nodded and followed the Empress Dowager out.

Jiang Lanye sat on the edge of the bed, looking pained.

He could tell that Song Yi was indeed very nervous, as if something was chasing her from behind.

He wanted to help Song Yi, but he was powerless to do so.

Jiang Lanye began to force himself to push forward and think along the lines of the memories he had already recalled.

What happened before entering the attic?
When did they arrive at the palace, and what did they experience there?

What did they do before arriving at the palace?
Recalling the visits from the concubines yesterday, he suddenly remembered that Consort Zhuang was no longer there.

Why is Consort Zhuang no longer here?
Jiang Lanye discovered that her head would start to ache whenever she tried to recall the events.

This time, however, he struggled against the pain alone, constantly trying different approaches.

I do not know how long it has been.

It had become completely dark.

Eunuch Cao brought in the food and carefully walked in. He saw that Jiang Lanye was still in the same position, holding Song Yi's hand tightly and pressing her hand against his forehead.

"Your Majesty, please have something to eat."

Jiang Lanye suddenly let out a muffled groan.

Eunuch Cao quickly put the things on the table and went over to ask with concern, "Your Majesty, what's wrong?"

"I remember now."

"what?"

He only said that one sentence, and then ignored Eunuch Cao.

Scenes from the past flashed rapidly through his mind.

Every smile, every gesture, all the pleasant and unpleasant moments they shared, and all the details came flooding back like a tide.

He curled up again.

"Your Majesty, Your Majesty, what's wrong!"

Cao Gonggong's voice startled Song Yi from her sleep.

Song Yi suddenly opened her eyes. Before she could even figure out what was happening, she reached out and hugged Jiang Lanye.

"I'm here, Jiang Lanye. What are you thinking about? I'm here."

He held Song Yi tightly.

My head still hurts terribly.

He said with difficulty, "I remember everything. I also remember that you fell off a cliff and hid in a cave. A wolf was about to bite you, and I went to save you."

Song Yi nodded, even though she herself was still weak and powerless, she continued to comfort Jiang Lanye, reaching out to stroke his stiff back gently, her voice soft:
"Anything else? Think about something happy. You and I have been through so many happy things together."

Her voice seemed to possess some kind of magic, transforming into a pair of soft, warm hands that guided Jiang Lanye in another direction.
