Mysterious Resurrection: Starting with Controlling Sadako
Chapter 262 The Ghost Temple Incident
Chapter 262 The Ghost Temple Incident
The island nation's ghost temple, also known as the ghost well incident, is one of the few S-class paranormal events in the world.
According to Mishima's records, the incident initially occurred in a place called Anzenji in Nagano Prefecture, an island nation.
But more than half a year ago, the temple was suddenly shrouded in a strange fog, like a mirage, seemingly real yet unreal.
The monks in the temple and the tourists who came to worship had all disappeared without a trace, as if they had all vanished into the temple in the fog at the same time.
After one of the rescue teams that went up the mountain went missing, the incident was initially classified as a Class C paranormal event.
But not long after, dirty, muddy water flowed down the mountain from the temple and mixed into the city's streams and sewers.
Furthermore, corpses would occasionally float out of the murky water, drifting in various parts of the city where there was water. They were later confirmed to be tourists who had gone missing in the temple.
There were no obvious external injuries, only swelling from being soaked in water, resulting in decay and gigantism.
After these bodies in the water were discovered, they came to life and dragged anyone who approached them into the water, where they disappeared.
In some places, even in the middle of a street in a city, a dilapidated well might suddenly appear, causing some disturbance, with a hazy mist spreading from it.
Many people disappeared into the fog, only to reappear as floating corpses in another part of the city.
The number of missing persons in the city is rising rapidly, and wells and fog are appearing in various places.
Once the local exorcists realized that the paranormal events were spreading, they immediately reported it to their superiors, upgraded it to Level A, and began to take action.
Those floating corpses that are moving can be disposed of by destroying the bodies.
Wells that appear in the city, after being found in the fog and their walls mysteriously destroyed, will suddenly collapse and disappear.
What's truly bizarre is that at some point, some monk statues flowed into the city along with the bloated corpses in the muddy water.
Anyone seen by the stone statue will be petrified, and the phantom of Anzenji Temple, the origin of the incident, will be summoned to the city like a mirage.
After the temple phantom appeared, a faint chanting sound rang out, and more stone statues emerged from the temple phantom, turning from illusion to reality, stepping into the city, and immediately petrifying more people, spreading further.
Less than an hour after the stone monk appeared, the city that first showed signs of abnormality was completely overrun.
An unexpected stone well appeared on the street, shrouded in mist.
Similar phantom temples appeared throughout the city, forming a vast temple complex.
Stone figures, standing like tombstones, filled the city, petrifying the living and quickly spreading the phantom of the temple to the surrounding areas.
It was a living hell, no less despairing than the Tokyo overpopulation scandal, and perhaps even more so, where it was difficult to find any living people.
In island nations, prefectures are larger than cities; the entire Nagano Prefecture is roughly the same size as Oan City.
However, it was completely overrun in a very short time after the situation deteriorated.
The exorcism society summoned a large number of demon tamers and ordinary soldiers to disperse the crowd, cut off the water supply, and blockade Nagano to prevent further spread.
Finally, based on the known intelligence, a plan was formulated, and the company's top-ranking demon tamer was dispatched, equipped with carefully selected supernatural items. Using the Demon Domain, a team of the most elite demon tamers entered Nagano, heading straight for the source of the incident: Anzenji Temple!
The team lost contact as soon as they entered, and it took three whole days for the fog and temple phantoms in Nagano to begin to disappear. Even the numerous petrified stone figures and wells in the city vanished.
Nagano averted the crisis, but the incident was not resolved because Anzenji Temple remained shrouded in mist on the mountain where it originally stood.
The island nation's Yuhe and that elite team of demon tamers have also completely lost contact, and are suspected to be trapped in a temple. It is almost certain that they all perished in the incident.
The exorcism society's top ghost-controlling experts have been almost entirely wiped out, leaving them with no strength to organize a team to try and resolve the issue. They had no choice but to cut off the nearby stream and use a supernatural object, whose psychological comfort was greater than its practical effect, to seal the temple on the mountain.
Even the nearest city is like a ghost town, not returning to normal, in order to limit this S-level paranormal event.
After reviewing the file and gaining some understanding of the incident, Wang Liang's brow furrowed even more deeply, despite the seemingly clear record of the cause and effect of the event.
"that's it?"
Mishima wiped the sweat from his forehead and said, "That's all. This is the complete file. The next few pages are the files of the members of that elite demon tamer team at that time, including the jade."
“That’s not what I’m asking you,” Wang Liang said impatiently.
"The plan mentioned inside can be summed up in one sentence: based on information obtained, there is a well in Anshan Temple, which is presumed to be the source, so a team is sent deep into the temple to imprison it with gold. That's all?"
Mishima was speechless, only wiping his sweat repeatedly.
"Do you know what it means to be petrified by being seen? Although it's not a fatal attack, even a Ghost Master has to activate the supernatural to resist petrification. But if this kind of supernatural confrontation continues, a Ghost Master usually can't resist for long before the vengeful ghost revives."
How to resist the combined attacks from so many ghost slaves and stone statues, how to solve the petrification problem, and how to locate the stone well after entering?
Why was Nagano finally unsealed, yet the temples shrouded in fog remained? Are there no explanations for this?
Mishima was sweating even more.
"What should have been a detailed plan is summarized in a single sentence here. Don't tell me that team just recklessly charged in based on that sentence. The most ridiculous thing is that there's not even a record of the supernatural items they carried during the incident. Heh, is this the entire file?"
After several questions, Wang Liang narrowed his eyes dangerously, emanating an unsettling chill.
"President Mishima, you want my help but won't provide all the information. Do you think I'm too lenient? Are you trying to get a new president by hiding things about paranormal events?"
Wang Liang usually appears calm and composed, but with the added influence of his experiences, he already possesses an imposing and authoritative aura in Mishima's eyes.
Being targeted by Wang Liang with such fierce intent is no less than being targeted by a real, terrifying ghost.
Even the exorcists in the exorcism society couldn't stand it, let alone an ordinary person like Mishima.
He didn't even react for a moment, stunned for a few seconds before his body trembled slightly, and he immediately lowered his head to avoid eye contact, saying:
"No, I'm very sorry, but this is really all we have."
There was no one else in the car except the driver. Two exorcists from the exorcism society followed in another car. Mishima didn't show any respect for the president and immediately prostrated himself on the ground, apologizing nervously.
Before Wang Liang could speak, Mishima hurriedly explained, "It's that guy Kimura, the previous president of the Exorcism Society. Not many people knew the details of the plan. After the incident, he erased the relevant files of the detailed plan and purged the people who had worked on the plan. Then he died not long after. That's really all."
